I was a massive user of Mumsnet , but i hardly ever visit now because i can guarantee within 10 replies on any thread it will have turned nasty. Why ? I spent many an evening having a real good laugh at some of the stories but now it seems to be who can be the nastiest first . Shame shame .

Most 'frank discussion' occurs on AIBU, so if you find it upsetting then just don't come on AIBU.

There are lots of sub forums on here which I dislike/have no interest for me. So, I just don't go on them...it really is that simple.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/09/2016 18:05

I agree that a hide poster function would be awesome - some people are just cunts every time they post. But that's the situation in all groups.

windmillsofyourmind · 07/09/2016 18:10

I think ripping into talentless, wooden, plastic-fantastic slebs is exactly in the spirit of this site. Or, how this site used to be.
Totally agree, baffled why they pulled that one.

Doggity · 07/09/2016 18:14

There's a lot of trolling and goading. There's also a lot of "OMG you're bullying me, I'm sooooo vulnerable" (always "vulnerable", what makes you so fucking vulnerable?) when people disagree which has coincided with the influx of aforementioned trolls and GFs.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2016 18:17

The sex topic is....interesting

I swear some people go there just to be offended

For example, there was a woman who wanted to know what she could use to stop blood on the sheets whilst they were having sex on her period. It was clear from the title that's what she wanted.

The amount of people who said it was digusting was unreal. You don't like it? That's fine. I wouldn't do it on my period either but the obvious she does and wants to continue so why click on it?

That's true ususl

The fisting thread for example...

petitpois55 · 07/09/2016 18:23

Yes Usual. Sleazy is a real good description.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/09/2016 18:26

But with the fisting thread it was blatantly obvious what it was about (the title actually was 'Fisting, there was a clue there).

Nobody was forced to click on it.

I don't get why you wouldn't just hide the topic of its not your bag? So it may be a little sleazy, so is most of the Internet!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/09/2016 18:30

"poster hesterton Wed 07-Sep-16 17:52:11
The trolling is what has brought on the huge whack of cynicism here. It is harder to trust ops."

Absolutely true. This is it in a nutshell.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/09/2016 18:34

I love the sex topic! Hidden the whole lot of it. So now I am oblivious to most of the pervy trolls, wonderful.

BummyMummy77 · 07/09/2016 18:36

are there really that many troll comments and threads?! What do people gain from doing that? Seems a bit weird to me.

If people go to the trouble of making stuff up on the Internet to people they don't know are they crazy ass compulsive liars in real life?

Soubriquet · 07/09/2016 18:39

There are that many trolls and comments

Honestly

If you was here to see Oliver's Army you would understand why people are hesitating to post nice comments

Ginslinger · 07/09/2016 18:39

yeah trolling and 'lighthearted'

Arseicle · 07/09/2016 18:39

Some people think that others are nasty to them (because for example someone told them they are talking shite) and makes MN a horrible place.

some people think the people talking shite and getting precious about anyone pointing it out are the ones making it an awful place.

And others think its just words on a screen and maybe you should just log off if you're getting your kecks in a bunch about any of it.

PinkissimoAndPearls · 07/09/2016 18:40

I actually think the Daily Mail has a lot to do with the trolling which has seemed to increase disproportionately to the increase in users as the site has become more well known.

I've said this on another thread (hope it wasn't this one and I'm not repeating myself Grin) that I rarely NC and usually to "connected names not that people would remember me anyway Wink Recently I had to cause to post about a very sad family situation that had already been in the press so I NCed as I didn't want the Mail either picking it up or IDing my "usual" name. I said on thread I had NCed and, aware the situation was Shock, said something about pombears, pouffe of poo etc. Still people posted crap like "interesting first post" and "reported" and I just thought, for the first time on MN, it isn't fucking worth it.

There's obvious goady fuckers where I think it's appropriate to post humphy faces Wink but this was about a bereavement, and once the first poster said something troll hunty, it seemed to be a call to arms. If it hadn't been for the recent Mail crap "journalism" I probably wouldn't have NCed, or been suspected to be making it up for an article, or kicks, or whatever.

I keep thinking I will stick to only posting about cats, Christmas and cooking but then I try and remember I have seen, and received, some outstanding kindness and generally the majority of MNers are witty, kind and intelligent.

I do think it's odd when people, especially "new" posters start threads purely to moan about how shit MN is though. I just think, well fuck off then Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/09/2016 18:45

You can blame the Daily Mail for many things, but the trolling on Mumsnet was absolutely chronic long before this latest stint of thread-lifting by the DM.

Blame the limitless and unquestioning name change facility for the trolling.

DropYourSword · 07/09/2016 18:46

I have spent a stupid amount of time channelling my inner Columbo to investigate the spat between Zombieswillreign and Soupdragon Blush

BummyMummy77 · 07/09/2016 18:50

I just don't understand what people would get out of it!

If I found myself making things up for attention I quickly come to my senses and give myself a fucking hard slap in the face.

I suppose maybe we should actual feel sorry for people that do it. There must be something pretty lacking in their lives or they're some next level emotional fuckwit.

MaQueen · 07/09/2016 18:51

Yes, when the fuck did it become necessary to include 'lighthearted' in a thread title [stabby]

Soubriquet · 07/09/2016 18:52

Around the time people took offence to everything. I had a thread yesterday about swearing. I still got someone protesting about it
