I was a massive user of Mumsnet , but i hardly ever visit now because i can guarantee within 10 replies on any thread it will have turned nasty. Why ? I spent many an evening having a real good laugh at some of the stories but now it seems to be who can be the nastiest first . Shame shame .

Bullying should not be happening on a parenting site, I would never dream of bullying someone in real life let alone online

Well you know what they say about bullies... Unhappy individuals that find pleasure in bullying and putting others down.

Actually Coconut I was genuinely asking for clarification, I assumed that anyone who had actually bothered to read a few posts would have worked out that it's not just parents on here.

If you want to take that as a dig, then do, but it wasn't intended as one. Like I said, people will call posters out for being cunts, that's the kind of place it is. If you don't like it there are plenty of other sites. Smile

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/09/2016 17:09

Ah the bullying accusations....

What a load of shit. That undermines actual bullying.'

Lunchboxlewiswillyoumarryme · 07/09/2016 17:11

I don't think there is any need to be nasty..sometimes I wonder if it's been taken over by teens, needs to be renamed teensnet

RepentAtLeisure · 07/09/2016 17:11

I know. The worst is when someone first replies with a shitty comment, then the next half dozen bleat along with them.

Leigh unfortunately you started a thread on one of the two things guaranteed to attract "strong opinions."

Luckily you seem pretty tough so take everything with a Biscuit ;)

oh I do get cross with the whole 'paint AIBU with the same big fucking brush' stuff to be honest - it's getting boring

there are a whole bunch of people who ONLY post on threads on AIBU to say 'don't post here hun they are all bitches and will be horrible ask for the thread to be moved'

there are another bunch who post stuff to get a rise and they feed off it

Then there are the GF's

Look this site and this forum are not the same all the time - there are some good people here - there is good advice given

All over the WWW their are some prize cunts - some dwell here

There are also the professionally offended and the special snowflakes who post knowing they can then make a meal of being a victim of big bad AIBU bullies Hmm

Generally I find AIBU is fine except for the wankers who pull people on their spelling

ghostyslovesheep · 07/09/2016 17:20

and yes I did use 'their' rather than 'there' Hmm feel free to raise it as the ONLY thing in my post worth noting

timelytess · 07/09/2016 17:21

I've been here a few years and its always been mainly nasty but with some amazingly funny and amazingly generous bits. The worst thing now is that there are so many false threads, it makes me wonder if anything was ever real.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2016 17:21

I've even private messaged someone who had a go at me on two different threads in one night and asked if I'd done something to upset them

Hardly "having a go". it was coincidence that I happened to disagree with two things you said on two different threads.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2016 17:22

I didn't even remember your name.
I will now.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/09/2016 17:24

And why do all the Nethuns come here and say 'you are all so mean' or 'I got banned from NM because I'm a badass'

Don't like it? Feel free to post goady threads and play innocent when you get pulled for saying cunty things

MaQueen · 07/09/2016 17:26

One poster's bullying is another poster's 'frank opinion'.

I have been on here for years, and have never felt bullied. Stalked, yes...but not bullied.

flippinada · 07/09/2016 17:29

I think that unpleasant people have always been around on here (I've been here 12 years), it's just that there's more of them now. MN has a higher profile than it used to and more posters (plus the ability to name change) means increased anonymity and unfortunately that just brings out the worst in some folk.

This is a load of tosh anyway. My very first (ill chosen) thread on MN many, many moons ago I was jumped up and down on from the first post. In fact I remembered one poster on this thread being very kind and sticking up for me as the very first poster had got the wrong end of the stick and run with it and everyone else piled in!

It was a very long time ago.

Posters have always been harsh if something is mis-interpreted by the first reply. It's the way things are.

I learned my lesson about checking what I write to make sure it is crystal clear what I mean. It's no different now to what it was then.

flippinada · 07/09/2016 17:32

Broadly speaking, I think you would struggle to find any popular forum that didn't have its fair share of trolling, goading, or plain old fashioned nastiness.

Everyone here is lovely. MN is a great place where strong opinions are expressed without making it personal and AIBU is the pearl of MN.

Or maybe it isn't...

Sallystyle · 07/09/2016 17:34

Yeah, there are some arseholes on here at times.

I am not usually an arse, but some threads I might look like a big arsehole because I am passionate about the subject.

This complaint is nothing new, it happens on every forum I've ever been on. People moaning that the website has 'changed' and people are being mean.

There are arseholes here and some really amazing people who go to great length to help others. Some posters will twist everything someone posts for an argument and others will follow then eventually people will pull them up on it.

For every arsehole there is someone telling them to shut the fuck up.

You need a thick skin to post here, there is a reason why I wouldn't post about sensitive situations I'm struggling with on AIBU. People would do well to remember that if you are feeling sensitive about something this is not the place to post about it.
