giving a baby a biscuit

My ds, 7 months came with me to a return to work chat, unofficial. Nice colleague said she'd look after him in office.
Come back to find hes had some banana and a shortcake biscuit.
Not a massive problem, but hes 7 months, and I'm not happy hes had something sweet. Hes also allergic to dairy so now I have a sad, spotty baby with tummy ache.
I didn't say anything coz she's the kind of person to get upset, crocodile tears, and tell everyone her mistake.
But now I'm home I'm fuming!
Aibu?! Who gives a baby a biscuit without checking with parent?!

YANBU to get upset she gave him something he's allergic to.

But to get annoyed about "something sweet" is a bit over the top.

I have a baby with allergies and I always ensure anyone looking after him knows just in case they give him something he can't have

I would have been seriously pissed off. 7 months is too young for all that sugar IMO. It's not her decision to make.

My 3rd dd is now 10 months. She loves a good biscuit or slice of cake.

All my kids are healthy and active.

It's not crack cocaine or a can of red bull you know Hmm

I think.that 7 months is a bit early tbh. some babies will be on 3 meals a day by then and some will still only be trying the odd bit here and there and won't really be ready fir solid food

I'd never feed a baby without checking fir allergies etc first as family would probably know but a work colleague wouldn't.

obviously no harm was meant but really people need to get over this "must feed baby" crap. doesn't seem to matter whether they are due a feed ir not when someone holds a baby they seem to want to shove food in its mouth regardless of suitability.

It's one biscuit. Calm down. She didn't know about the allergies and it is up to you to let people know.

Giving a baby a snack is normal and shouldn't require permission... One sweet snack isn't going to give your child diabetes or turn your child into a sugar addict...

The allergy thing, sounds like a pain, I would just roll my eyes and think "shit, I should've mentioned it to her!"

It's a learning curve, now you know for next time to mention the allergy to anyone who might be having your child even for a short duration.

in fairness if someone is baby sitting then you obviously tell them.

but I don't think.it would naturally occurring to everyone that if you leave a baby with them for twenty mins that the second your back is turned it will be given food.

I gave my 3 month old niece a mr kiplings cake bar. She survived.

At the time I was 19/20 and knew jackshit about babies. She seemed to enjoy gumming it though. My dsis laughed at me and called me a muppet when she came back from her bath.

It happens. Niece is now a lovely, slim 19 year old.

I would be fuming too! I didn't let my first have any processed sugar until he was one. I'd never give someone else's child any food without asking first, precisely because of allergies etc. Totally unreasonable to give a child of 7months (7 months! Some kids haven't even started solids by then, and the choking risk too!) food when looking after him for less than a couple of hours.

I would be annoyed. it doesn't really matter what she's given him, she should have checked before, he's only 7 months! a simple 'is he ok if I give him a bit of banana' should have been offered.

Well it sounds like she did you a favour by looking after him and you didn't tell her about either the allergy or about what you would and wouldn't be happy with. Giving a bit of biscuit to a 7mo isn't something that most people would consider stupid...it's actually pretty standard in a lot of places.

You've supposedly learned your lesson about leaving your DC in someone's care without telling them about any allergies, but you should probably rethink leaving him in anyone's care if you're going to get this annoyed at a bit of sugar.

YANBU to be upset that your baby is now a bit poorly....
YABU to be upset with this woman when you didn't specify not to give your child any food, or inform her of a dairy allergy. If the allergy is an acute one, I would be informing anyone who comes into contact with my child without my presence just in case.
