AIBU to think that he should have cottoned on about 10 years ago, not now when it is so glaringly obvious as to be an embarrassment for everyone?

What do you mean by integration?

Hamiltoes · 20/07/2015 19:21

I guess you mean immigration? Hmm

WhetherOrNot · 20/07/2015 19:21

Ask David Cameron - he said it, not me!

TinyManticore · 20/07/2015 19:22

Like, the opposite of segregation? Didn't that stop in the 60s?

WhetherOrNot · 20/07/2015 19:25

David Cameron has set out the government's strategy to defeat the "poison" of Islamist extremism.

He pledged to tackle extremist ideology and "the failures of integration" which he said had led to hundreds of Britons joining Islamic State (IS) militants.

His speech today to tackle Islamic Extremists.

I'm sure he did know 10 years ago, but we were in the heights of the Labour "smear anyone who has doubts as a racist" years. It's only recently people have dared to speak out about integration problems.

Hamiltoes · 20/07/2015 19:26

But you said "it's an embarrassment to everyone"

I'm sorry but its not glaringly obvious to me, please tell me what I'm missing.

YouTheCat · 20/07/2015 19:27

What a load of old bollocks!

lutra3d · 20/07/2015 19:27

Did he actually say that quote in the op? I'm confused.

Hamiltoes · 20/07/2015 19:28

Oh sorry cross post!

Has he said what his alternative is? I have my own thoughts on this but I'm never sure how to word them...

WhetherOrNot · 20/07/2015 19:30

Whole speech here.

And thankfully he's got the solution! Because added stigma and prejudice will totally make British Muslims feel better about their dual identity and less conflicted.

museumum · 20/07/2015 19:31

I thought that "integration" was the opposite of "multiculturalism"?
I also thought that what has been the dominant political preach has been multiculturalism?
So how can "integration" have failed?

YouTheCat · 20/07/2015 19:34

So, Whether, are all Muslims extremists then? Hmm

Surely having a good relationship with this large and diverse group of people, who happen to have the same religion, is better than alienating a whole group of people.

Shall we start segregating extreme Christians as well?

EllieFAntspoo · 20/07/2015 19:35

It's called distraction politics. Don't look over there, look here. Here's what you must look at. Look... Here is the bad man. You are being manipulated. Ask yourself why you are being told what you are being told. Ask yourself who is benefiting from this.

WhetherOrNot · 20/07/2015 19:38

So, Whether, are all Muslims extremists then? said YouTheCat

Why are you asking me? I only started the thread to see what people think - not to be asked stupid questions Shock

Shows what I know. I thought you meant class integration. Now that would be something DC knows NOTHING about.

You started it, Whether.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 20/07/2015 19:52

Integration is working pretty well imo. None of my Muslim colleagues hold aloof, and the Ramadan joke this year was "cheer up, it's worse in Reykjavik". IS wannabes are fewer than the number of Walts and psychos who went off to fight in the Yugoslav wars. Some of those guys joined the Ustashi specifically to shoot non-Catholics.Shock
It's just CMD trying to steal the fascists' clothes, the shiny faced pillock.

You started it, Whether.

Yes, I started the thread YouTheCat - and your point is......?

OP posts:
Kardamyli · 20/07/2015 19:54

Ellie, I don't want to start a bunfight, but is "distraction politics" your answer to everything?

What is it you think we're being distracted from?

YouTheCat · 20/07/2015 19:55

I want to know what your point is and what your gripe with Muslims is.

rosesanddaisies · 20/07/2015 19:55

My muslim neighbours are lovely, they always say hello and make an effort to integrate. My PIL have muslim neighbours too, and they also (especially at Ramadan) make an effort with their neighbours - sharing food, etc.
