tictocstar · 20/04/2015 19:05

If so why? Please people no attacking I am genuinely curious. I know American is more homophobic than UK, and I think (hopefully!) this thread will be empty, but anyone with any experiences or suchlike?

Also please don't accuse me of being homophobic.
(may sound ridic to epect to be accused, but when asking someone this,^ was the reply...)

I don't think I understand you. What is the + sign of do you just mean LGBT?

demystified · 20/04/2015 19:09

What is LGBT+? Or do you mean is anyone against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people?

WestEast · 20/04/2015 19:11

Eh?

PHANTOMnamechanger · 20/04/2015 19:12

of course there are genuinely people who are anti LBGT!

just as there are genuinely people who are racist/sexist etc.!

you're not very likely to get any of them putting their hands up to freely admit it though!

tictocstar · 20/04/2015 19:12

The '+' means anything else e.g.pansexual, lgbtqa+ is also common, a for asexual, q for queer, but I didn't put that as not as commonly know

BIWI · 20/04/2015 19:12

WTAF are you asking here?

pilates · 20/04/2015 19:13
Confused
MzunguMzungu · 20/04/2015 19:14

What does queer and pansexual mean?

velourvoyageur · 20/04/2015 19:14

My cousin (22 y.o.) is a good hearted chap really but can be horribly intolerant. He's said some stupid things about what he calls "tapettes", with confidence and arrogance that takes my breath away sometimes. In his view there are acceptable gay people and then unacceptable ones which are the ones who adopt mannerisms and 'flaunt it'.
He just needs to meet a more diverse range of people. Then he'll grow out of it, I hope.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/04/2015 19:14

I still don't understand why they are all grouped together...

And i have no clue what on earth Pansexual is, so i'm not sure i can be against that.

velourvoyageur · 20/04/2015 19:15

don't see how the OP's Q is ambiguous really, is there something going on i don't know about?

WorraLiberty · 20/04/2015 19:15

I think you're probably the first person in the history of Mumsnet to start a thread, that you hope will be empty.

I really have seen it all now! Grin

OrangeJuiceSandwich · 20/04/2015 19:15

I've literally never heard of pansexual.

meditrina · 20/04/2015 19:16

Where is pan these days?

PHANTOMnamechanger · 20/04/2015 19:17

oh in that case if it's "anti anything else" you're after, then I'm anti peedos and anti beastiality, but all the rest I mind my own business about

but I still think it's a daft question - why would anyone NOT believe that there are people who actually hate, to the point of discrimination, persecution and violence against, LGBT? It's widely publicised and legislated against, because it's real!

MzunguMzungu · 20/04/2015 19:18

The google explanation just sounds like pansexual is a fancy name for bisexual. What is queer?- I thought that was a derogatory term for homosexuals? Confused

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 20/04/2015 19:18

Back soon.......

ZestyDragon · 20/04/2015 19:18

There are plenty of people who are against the LGBT community as I am sure there are bigots against just about any group you can think of.

I live in NI myself and the overall bigotry I have come across since moving here is breath taking. Sadly plenty of hate in certain areas - though the Newry LGBT parade is rather fabulous and the community in general gets behind it.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 20/04/2015 19:20

Quote from Wiki - Pansexuality, is sexual attraction, sexual desire, romantic love, or emotional attraction toward people of any sex or gender identity

So, in old fashioned language bi-sexual????

PHANTOMnamechanger · 20/04/2015 19:20

OP, did you make LGBTQA+ up?

Why is Q in there aswell as L&G, does queer not mean gay anymore?

and WTF is pansexual?

FishCanFly · 20/04/2015 19:21

I admit there are some aspects about this LGBT culture that i'm uncomfortable with.
With people i have no problem.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 20/04/2015 19:21

x-posts

I agree that pansexual is surely just another term for bi?

ZestyDragon · 20/04/2015 19:21

But PHANTOMnamechanger those are illegal activities that you mentioned surely that everyone would be anti and so not actually comparable with LGBT.

HermioneWeasley · 20/04/2015 19:22

I assure you that there is an endless supply of bigots. The places in the world where LGBT people can leave peaceful lives are very few.

EllaMenoPea · 20/04/2015 19:22

LGBTQI is the term now. I think the OP is getting a bit of a hard time about it. Google it.
