I would love:

  1. a pair of dungarees
  2. a baby blue velour tracksuit

but I feel too contrained by society and my arse (which is now decending down the back of my legs).

How about you?

I too would love to wear dungarees. However, I am hugely fat. I have a very long torso and short legs and would end up being sliced in two in the crotch area if I bent over or stretched up.

Dungarees in winter would be bliss. Thinner top underneath and a loose wool jumper over the top. Comfort.

It ain't going to happen.

thiskiwicanfly · 17/04/2015 00:19

When I was in high school (early 90s) I had big denim dungarees which I wore with bright or white t-shirts and often one strap hanging down... thought I was the bee's knees. Later, I had denim maternity dungarees when I was pregnant (11 years ago now) because exH liked them. That wasn't such a good look - looked like a 70s throwback from the antenatal class films (particularly with my glasses on and bright lipstick) so I'm cured from those for all eternity.

A jersey maxi dress is my current crave - but at 5'2" and a very boobalicious size 12 I manage look both pregnant and like a child in a nightie all at the same time (and they are all so long I trip all over them).

LovelyBranches · 17/04/2015 00:36

I would love to wear my wedding dress more regularly. I felt amazing in it. I could just imagine the looks on people's faces in the supermarket as I swished and pushed the pram with my 12 layers of tulle swishing around my feet.

ProcessYellowC · 17/04/2015 01:25

I'd love to go full-on medieval, I absolutely covet one or 7 of these dresses...

HennaFlare · 17/04/2015 07:28

I want a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, a really long thick cloak for daily wear (not just evening - I could pull that off but I want a casual cloak Grin )

I also want a wardrobe full of maxi dresses but I still look so pregnant 3 years after my youngest that they might be off limits Sad

HazleNutt · 17/04/2015 08:26

scarves. When other people wear them, they look put together and elegant. I look like I have a cold.

GraduallyGoneInsane · 17/04/2015 08:46

I am sure in a previous life I was a cowgirl.

I hanker after cowboy boots, teeny tiny denim shorts (maybe I'd even hang my bumcheeks out the back of them like my DDs are so desperate to do) and a little checked shirt knotted up to reveal my six pack abs. Obviously I'd be golden tanned, my hair would fall in natural su kissed curls and my legs would go on for miles.

In reality I'm a pasty short arse whose abs are so far from a six pack it's depressing.

CandyApocalypse · 17/04/2015 09:26

I would love to wear floaty maxi dresses, but I'm six foot two and can never find any that fit my body properly or look nice.

I am forever seeing women gliding gracefully in beautiful high heels, but I don't wear them that often these days and struggle to walk in them now.

Also I kept seeing people in pretty kimono tops/jackets last year with denim shorts and they looked really elegant and pretty. I tried one on and I looked ridiculous.

ImNameyChangey · 17/04/2015 09:34

Candy us shorter women often won't wear maxis because they make us look squat...I think they look best on tall women. Why don't you ask someone who can sew to make you one that fits? A simple maxi is not hard at all...and they just look RIGHT on tall women.

DamFineBeaver · 17/04/2015 09:46

ProcessYellowC, YES, I'm with you on this. Imagine swishing into Pizza Express in the Hermia Navy Blue-Ecru.

Oh god, I hadn't even thought of that, SecretNutellaFix. Yet another part of the antidungarees conspiracy. Maybe the really baggy low-crotched ones are the only way to go?

Aawww, used to wear dungarees in my teens/20's, and still have a large collection of vintage 30s-60's clothes that will never fit again; would love to wear those again. Determined to lose weight this year so can feel comfy in shift dress, if I can shift the belly. Boobs a problem; if I buy a frock that fits the top, the bottom is flappy and baggy. And I have some amazing vintage shoes but even my feet have grown. And used to wear one of those triangle bikini's with bites of string holding them on; now wear well upholstered tankini!.The dear Mr bought me a fake leather biker jacket and gorgeous pink stilleto's for my birthday, but again can't see me wearing those down the local!

noddyholder · 17/04/2015 12:30

I wore my old 1990s dungarees yesterday nd they looked surprisingly nice on after 20 odd years! I have loads of cowboy boots at least 4 at last count

scandip · 17/04/2015 12:33

This thread is bringing back the things I used to wear. When I was 18 I had some dungarees that I thought were really cool. I also wore tiny shorts with tights. Neither would look good now.

I would love to wear a jumpsuit but I am short and busty and it looks dreadful. I also like ponchos. I wore fairy wings in my late twenties to a party and also had them on my bedroom wall.

I wear little lace smock dresses and cardis these days but feel a bit overdressed sometimes in my mainly sportsweary village. One of my students wears a little black trilby and I would love one of those but am 40 so dunno if it would be try hard.

I think I would mostly wear what I want to wear though. I would love a little sequinned cape.

noddyholder · 17/04/2015 12:38

Where I live you could walk down the street in a chicken suit and no one would even look!

noddyholder · 17/04/2015 12:39

I would love to ear a racing back silky vest braless but with my F cups thats never happening!

GiantGaspingSatanicCyst · 17/04/2015 13:53

Most of the stuff in Cos. My tall, athletic mate looks amazing in their stuff. I'm 5'4" with hips and tits and a floppy belly...just no.

Leather leggings. See above.

HelenF350 · 17/04/2015 13:57

Harem trousers. I love them but wouldn't have the confidence to wear them. DP would probably pee himself laughing if I did!

aftereight · 17/04/2015 13:59

A leopard or cheetah print coat. One day I will buy one and I will lose all selfconsciousness and wear it.

CornwallsFinest · 17/04/2015 14:00

A midi length tulle skirt OK, a tutu

I love them in grey and have often opened a website I know which sells them but haven't quite brought myself to purchase one yet...

to ask what item of clothing you'd love to own and wear but can't bring yourself to?
scandip · 17/04/2015 17:16

I love the skirt. Buy one!

OnlyLovers · 17/04/2015 17:20

Belinda, yes, lovely cashmere socks and maybe a soft but chunky, snuggly cardigan.

I love that look on telly and in clothes catalogues. But in real life, you just end up boiling hot and itchy in the cardigan and simultaneously freezing and draughty around the legs/decolletage/anything not covered. Grin

I ADORE those tutu-type tulle skirts. I would definitely be in Grayson Perry territory in one of them though. Sad

Teawithatwix · 17/04/2015 17:57

I want to hit "like" on all of these, I would love to swan around in a long floaty boho skirt and vest top but when I try I look all lanky with a wobbly stomach, dungarees make me look like Spencer from Ballamory but I would love some with big flares!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 17/04/2015 18:12

I love the skater dress, ankle boots and the hat look that was trendy recently but sadly am too old to do it I feel. (did buy it though but never worn)

sleepwhenidie · 17/04/2015 18:43

Cornwall please can you link the website for the tulle skirts? All the ones I like seem to be designer and £££Shock. I can join you in hovering over the buy button Smile. Any suggestions for a suitable occasion to wear would be gratefully received please, just one good reason!
