To not let a delivery guy use my toilet?

Just that, really. Seems to happen all the time that delivery guys - everything from Ocado to Warren & Evans, ask to use my toilet once inside my property!

So today the guy from Warren & Evans (delivering a bed) asked, and I said no on the grounds that I would have needed to let him into a part of the house that I was keeping "closed off" as the cat (who needs to be kept in and out of the way of deliveries etc. as we've just moved) was there and I didn't want her to get out of there. And to be honest I've now had several experiences of a delivery guy asking to use my loo and leave it stinking of piss so I really prefer not to. Only have one loo in the house and want to keep it nice and clean. It's a not a public toilet after all and he was not a friend or family, just a random stranger really.

You were not unreasonable to say no, but he was not unreasonable to ask either.

NanooCov · 16/09/2014 17:48

I think you were being a bit mean. You could have just popped in to the closed off area and picked up the cat while he went for a wee. And after reading the Ocado bag full of piss thread the other day, I'd always let delivery people use my loo!

MrsWinnibago · 16/09/2014 17:49

YANBU. It's your toilet. however on MN you will be roasted alive for saying no.

FoxSticks · 16/09/2014 17:50

YABU I think you are being a bit mean to be honest, they don't have access to a loo and have to rely on customers goodwill. How would you feel if you were out doing deliveries for hours on end and were told you couldn't use someone's toilet?

Shinyshoes2 · 16/09/2014 17:50

They are on very tight deadlines to deliver shopping on time and get in trouble if they run late...
Personally I would have let him

Username12345 · 16/09/2014 17:53

YANBU

I don't let strangers into my home.

It's your home and you shouldn't have to do something you're not happy with just to be 'nice'.

FoxSticks · 16/09/2014 17:54

But if the guy is delivering a bed surely he is in the house anyway?

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 16/09/2014 17:55

I don't: we have one toilet upstairs and I don't want strangers traipsing through to get to it.

AdmitYouKnowImRight · 16/09/2014 17:55

What goes round comes round.

Aeroflotgirl · 16/09/2014 17:57

I would personally, as he could have been caught short and would hate that he might have had an accident if I said no. It's kindness. We've had tonnes of deliveries, never had a delivery guy ask to use the toilet.

Maisyblue · 16/09/2014 17:58

Yanbu, I don't like strangers using my bathroom, I just find it hard to say no.

MrsJossNaylor · 16/09/2014 17:58

Yabu. Poor bloke.

mommy2ash · 16/09/2014 18:00

It's a toilet I wouldn't be precious about it. if he is already in your home delivering something then I don't get the big deal.

fellowes · 16/09/2014 18:02

i wish my postman would ask to use my toilet ,at least then there might be a chance he will wash his hands before he touches my letters , he always has a piss in the bushes outside my house before he posts .

amyhamster · 16/09/2014 18:03

Yabu
Poor guy
Shit job to have where you can't go to the loo whenever you want

amyhamster · 16/09/2014 18:04

fellowes
you should report him!

icanmakeyouicecream · 16/09/2014 18:04

You were completely unreasonable, I'm embarrassed for you.

bakingaddict · 16/09/2014 18:10

I don't see what's wrong with giving the toilet a quick shoosh with bleach or a cleaning product if somebody strange uses your toilet but I do have a downstairs one so I never mind. I might feel a bit different if I only had an upstairs one though as that feels a bit more personal

Fluffy40 · 16/09/2014 18:10

No ones ever asked to use our loo, if they did it would be fine.

JabberJabberJay · 16/09/2014 18:10

YWNBU.

Why should you let a strange man into your house if you don't want to?

You should never do things you are uncomfortable with just to be 'polite'.

partialderivative · 16/09/2014 18:11

"Shit job to have where you can't go to the loo whenever you want"

(Snigger)

I think the point being made is you can't have a shit WHEREVER you want.

Though, I do think the OP was mean. And also that a lot of MNers seem to be really weird about their toilets.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 16/09/2014 18:11

Roasted or not, I absolutely would not allow any delivery persons inside my home, let alone use my toilet. For a variety of reasons, I am hyper sensative about security and no one enters my home unless I know them.

cricketballs · 16/09/2014 18:17

So how do you manage deliveries like a bed when they have to enter your house Annie? I'm with the majority; he's hardly got much choice - it's a toilet that you also pee and poo in so what's the problem?

Mintyy · 16/09/2014 18:17

OMG not again, surely not again??

LaurieMarlow · 16/09/2014 18:18

Completely unreasonable - what a mean thing to do. He was in your house anyway. Why would you be so uptight about your loo?
