To not let a delivery guy use my toilet?

Just that, really. Seems to happen all the time that delivery guys - everything from Ocado to Warren & Evans, ask to use my toilet once inside my property!

So today the guy from Warren & Evans (delivering a bed) asked, and I said no on the grounds that I would have needed to let him into a part of the house that I was keeping "closed off" as the cat (who needs to be kept in and out of the way of deliveries etc. as we've just moved) was there and I didn't want her to get out of there. And to be honest I've now had several experiences of a delivery guy asking to use my loo and leave it stinking of piss so I really prefer not to. Only have one loo in the house and want to keep it nice and clean. It's a not a public toilet after all and he was not a friend or family, just a random stranger really.

I offered two water board guys who were working in the street outside my house a drink and use of the 'facilities' today. We had a nice chat and I made them a cup of tea. Having read this thread I was pleasantly surprised that they simply thanked me and showed no signs at all of wanting to rob me.

turnips - Smile DH is always astonished how I can strike up a conversation, offer tea and chat to most folk that have even a passing association with our house Smile When we moved into said house, it was a new build and we were one of the first to move in. He reckoned I fed and watered most of the workers on the site and used to come home to about 15 finished mugs of tea on the front door step that they had returned before leaving site and hadn't wanted to disturb. That said, they are still popping back and fixing stuff and doing any small snags 3 years in, so perhaps I built up some good will? There's a guy over the street that is lovely, but complained like mad about everything, they were most reluctant to do anything for him Smile

gatorade - fair enough, but I think I would still let the guy in!! I had never met the BT guy in my life but he was just as traceable as a delivery guy I guess. They do bugger off quickly though don't they Smile

Exactly needastrongone. I like to think what goes around comes around.

Here's to all the Brew Brew Brew Brew 's for all the random tradesmen

except the thieving robbing ones

If we had workmen in (several recently!) or delivering post/parcel then we dont mind, but would refuse someone knocking on the door just to use the loo.

RefuseToWorry · 20/09/2014 16:35

I never thought twice about letting a delivery driver etc share our loo until...

... a few years ago, some workmen came to our house to insulate the loft. When they had finished, one of them asked if he could use our toilet (we only had one - upstairs in the bathroom). Some time later, he skipped downstairs with a spring in his step and out to join his workmate in the van.

As I closed the door behind him, I became aware of a foul, gag-inducing stench creeping down the stairs towards me. Words cannot describe what I found when I went upstairs to investigate. The man had created an alien life form in my toilet. It was all out war to get rid of it.

I'd still allow someone in need to borrow the loo, but - if I didn't know them very well - I'd ask them, politely, to please leave it as they find it.

Do tell us more, Refuse. Details.

ILoveTurnips · 20/09/2014 17:24

Eek, no, please don't tell us anymore Refuse. I think I've heard more than enough.

I need brain bleach.

paxtecum · 20/09/2014 18:35

I know three self employed tradesmen who each have a bucket in the back of their vans for toilet use.
We now know why this is necessary.

Dadarren · 25/09/2014 08:43

Anyone remember the story of the young policeman who was refused the use of a toilet. What happened to him should be a warning of the potential consequences of saying no.

HumblePieMonster · 25/09/2014 08:48

I say no. I don't want people using my bathroom.

Floggingmolly · 25/09/2014 09:10

I hate cliffhangers, Dadarren; what happened?????

Dadarren · 26/09/2014 09:08

Only just seen your reply floggingmolly ... Have you never read the story? A shopkeeper refused to let a desperate young copper use his toilet - and he wasn't able to wait.
