Tomato ketchup?

Had lunch at a relatives house today. They gave us bacon sandwiches, but only supplied brown sauce (travesty!). When I politely asked if there was any tomato ketchup, I just got a blank look followed by "well, I suppose we might have some tomato puree in the back of the cupboard".

AIBU to think that bacon sandwiches need tomato ketchup and it's just wrong to not even offer any?

Go non-contact, no ketchup is just plain wrong!

badtime · 24/08/2014 14:24

YABU.

What's the point of having a bacon sandwich if you're going to drown it in horrid sugary goop?

Rummikub · 24/08/2014 14:24

Oh no brown sauce all the way!

Frontier · 24/08/2014 14:25

Ok, I'll say it. it's a travesty to ruin good bacon with any sort of highly processed, sugary, vinegary sauce....IMO

YouTheCat · 24/08/2014 14:25

I only like ketchup on sausage sandwiches. I prefer bacon with no sauce so I just get all that lovely bacony flavour.

I could murder a bacon sandwich right now. Grin

diddl · 24/08/2014 14:25

OMG!

YABU!

Nothing needs tomato ketchup-it's revolting1

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/08/2014 14:26

A considerate host would offer BS for Northerners and ketchup for Southerners. Am hoping that 4 day old DS will favour ketchup like me rather than BS like his dad.

FamiliesShareGerms · 24/08/2014 14:26

YANBU

Ketchup has proven health benefits too

bumpiesonamission · 24/08/2014 14:27

YABU, Mayonnaise all the way

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 24/08/2014 14:27

Barbecue if anything, but I accept that's probably a bit perverse (and a hangover from pregnancy cravings) Can't stand tomato sauce on anything other than chips or burgers personally!

FunkyBoldRibena · 24/08/2014 14:27

I don't eat bacon but if I did - it would have to be with ketchup. Tomato puree??? What are they thinking?

bearfrills · 24/08/2014 14:27

I'm northern and I think BS tastes rank.

RussTDaviesBear · 24/08/2014 14:28

YABU. No ketchup or brown sauce - white bread, butter and crispy bacon ONLY!

YAB particularly U to start talking about bacon sandwiches when I don't have any bacon in the house...

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/08/2014 14:28

Yuck! Has to be mayonaise or at a push, brown sauce. Ketchup is vile.

OwlCapone · 24/08/2014 14:29

YABU. Ketchup is rank.
So is brown sauce.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/08/2014 14:29

I'm normally a mayonnaise woman but on bacon sandwiches? That's a step too far for me. We really need to now what kind of bread it was, was the bacon very hot with buttered white bread or cold with brown.

Drip-feeding I'm sure, OP.

MrsWinnibago · 24/08/2014 14:30

YABU. It taints the bacon. Same with beans on an English Breakfast. Wrong.

FortyFacedFuckers · 24/08/2014 14:31

No it's got to be brown sauce for bacon sandwiches!

StillaChocoholic · 24/08/2014 14:31

I'm northern and it has to be ketchup

Sicaq · 24/08/2014 14:31

Tomato sauce tastes foul and looks like congealing blood.

Mayonnaise on bacon, mustard on sausages.

iklboo · 24/08/2014 14:32

Occasionally tomato ketchup on bacon butties. Never brown sauce (and I'm northern). Mayo if it's a bacon & mushroom sandwich.

Sausage butties? Usually piccalilli or tomato sauce.

slithytove · 24/08/2014 14:33

Bacon, buttered white bread.. And sliced cherry tomatoes on the side

slithytove · 24/08/2014 14:33

Otherwise, hp sauce.

Ketchup with sausage baps

Ludways · 24/08/2014 14:34

I don't particularly like bacon, I'll eat it with bs if there's nothing else but wouldn't care if I never had it again. Dh thinks I'm a travesty of nature!

Dh and dc's are tommy k all the way, northerners here.

thornrose · 24/08/2014 14:35

The offer of tomato puree was wrong on every level! I like a bit of hot pepper sauce on my bacon sarnie and NO butter.
