Tomato ketchup?

Had lunch at a relatives house today. They gave us bacon sandwiches, but only supplied brown sauce (travesty!). When I politely asked if there was any tomato ketchup, I just got a blank look followed by "well, I suppose we might have some tomato puree in the back of the cupboard".

AIBU to think that bacon sandwiches need tomato ketchup and it's just wrong to not even offer any?

'First World Problems' has to be the smuggest phrase out there!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/08/2014 15:49

Evans - dip means bread placed in the pan to soak up the bacon fat, not hummus or sour cream!

I am the world's biggest fan of butter but it has no place in a bacon sandwich, it detracts from the bacon flavour. Bread, bacon, nothing else needed.

OnlyLovers · 25/08/2014 15:54

WhoKnows, we are bacon-sandwich twins.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/08/2014 15:55

Ah Hah - Thank you, WhoKnows!!!!! (I do that, too)!!! And have dripping on my toast Smile

(Chortle at colloquialisms) Grin

But butter in a bacon sandwich - yes, absolutely - I'll stick by that !!!

majority of the posters on this thread contribute to a charity or charities of some sort

I work for a charity that focuses on very serious social justice issues. I do, in fact, understand that my bacon roll is of less importance. I still have an opinion about my bacon roll.

MyLifeIsFictional · 25/08/2014 20:14

Brown Sauce. Always.

mumwithovertime · 25/08/2014 20:19

EvansOvalPiesYumYum,.........have you tried Philadelphia in a bacon sandwich ?
Can't afford smoked salmon here !

Crowen85 · 25/08/2014 20:21

Ooh no brown sauce all the way! Ketchup is tastier with sausage,

Crinkle77 · 25/08/2014 20:26

YABU brown sauce all the way

bubalou · 25/08/2014 20:28

You are completely reasonable.

Ketchup is one of my 5 a day Wink

squoosh · 25/08/2014 22:09

YABU

When I get my country I shall ensure that ketchup will be banned. All you need is salted butter, brown sauce at a push.

Ketchup lovers are the dregs of society.

worriedmum100 · 25/08/2014 22:21

I'd like to throw this one into the mix.

White thick sliced toast
Dairylea (other spreadable gloop pretending to be cheese is available)
Hot CRISPY bacon (nothing worse than a flaccid slice)
Brown sauce.

Try it. You'll be converted.

shggg245 · 25/08/2014 22:32

White floury roll dipped in butter or bacon fat. Crispy, preferably smoked lean bacon, tiny amount english mustard. Massive mug of strong tea.

Drooling.

Mim78 · 25/08/2014 22:36

Yabu

Should be brown sauce.

Ketchup us vile.

UncleT · 25/08/2014 22:56

I wholeheartedly endorse the edict prohibiting sauce in a bacon and egg sandwich. Smoked bacon with runny, easy-over organic egg on granary bread with the lightest dip in a very hot frying pan is the greatest. Eggs are an important business here too - only the best quality, completely cooked white with good colour, but retaining a perfectly soft yolk. Good smoked bacon is well-seasoned and tasty as it is, and the yolk is the perfect sauce for it. No further complications require.

thornrose · 25/08/2014 23:06

Did you really think "first world problem" was appropriate on a very light hearted bacon sandwich thread?

Do you not understand that amongst all the shit that happens in life the majority of people can still have a laugh about a bloody bacon sandwich.

Fucking hell, it's hard to believe anyone would actually post that!

frogbubbles · 25/08/2014 23:34

Hmmm bacon sandwich - crusty bread, almost lightly grilled (I know I'm gross but hate it crinkly) with a dollop of homemade ketchup

YolandiFuckinVisser · 25/08/2014 23:45

Brown sauce on the side so you can dip. HP sauce though, daddy's sauce at a pinch but none of that cheap shit. Ketchup is wrong & horrid except with fish fingers &:then it must be heinz.

SoleSource · 25/08/2014 23:54

HP sauce or Daddies sauce.

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU

thornrose · 25/08/2014 23:59

Ha, how funny, there is a thread asking about MNers that haven't been seen for a while. SoleSource you are one of them! Grin

Bouttimeforwine · 26/08/2014 00:15

Got to be HP sauce. Agree daddies at a push but cheap stuff, no way.

jessym · 26/08/2014 01:24

Proper, top quality dry-cure bacon doesn't need sauce of any colour. Just lightly dip the bread into the bacon fat and enjoy.

Sausage sandwiches, on the other hand, are greatly enhanced by the addition of HP sauce.

Poor little piggy-wiggies...

bubalou · 26/08/2014 07:25

Wow - someone needs to lighten the fuck up - first world problems?

It's a light hearted ketchup vs brown sauce debate.

If you want to discuss parliament and the Middle East fuck off somewhere else. Confused

MrsKoala · 26/08/2014 08:08

As brown sauce goes i prefer Daddies with sausages and HP on eggs and bacon. HP is sweeter i think and Daddies is spicier. Ketchup is far too sweet for anything other than a sticky marinade.

RussTDaviesBear · 26/08/2014 08:27

Bubalou- no, it's a brown sauce v ketchup v nothing debate!
