Tomato ketchup?

Had lunch at a relatives house today. They gave us bacon sandwiches, but only supplied brown sauce (travesty!). When I politely asked if there was any tomato ketchup, I just got a blank look followed by "well, I suppose we might have some tomato puree in the back of the cupboard".

AIBU to think that bacon sandwiches need tomato ketchup and it's just wrong to not even offer any?

What!?
Bacon with tomato sauce is wrong. YABU op

LuisSuarezTeeth · 24/08/2014 15:15

I can't believe this can happen in an enlightened society. YANBU OP and I feel it is your duty as a family member and a member of civilisation to educate this relative.

In our house, tomato sauce is called Blood Sauce.

Just thought I'd share that.
enjoy the image Grin

Bacon sandwiches need no adorning, in my opinion. Sauce free all the way here. I want to taste the bacon-y goodness, not sauce.

Germgirl · 24/08/2014 15:27

Red sauce on bacon. Brown sauce on sausages. That's the rules. Anyone who says different is just wrong.

Hulababy · 24/08/2014 15:32

DH and DD would argue that is should be brown sauce, not ketchup.

LadyFairfaxSake · 24/08/2014 15:41

You. Bacon sandwiches should be served without sauce & both ketchup & brown sauce should be offered.
At this point right thinking people will select brown sauce & the others will apply ketchup...

DoubtfireDear · 24/08/2014 15:46

YABU, Bacon should be served on a white roll with brown sauce and a tattie scone.

No exceptions.

PuppyMonkey · 24/08/2014 15:47

No sauce at all.

OnlyLovers · 24/08/2014 16:03

Mmmmmmm, tattie scone ...

ShadowStar · 24/08/2014 16:33

Would the tattie scone be served on the side or inside the bacon roll?

OP posts:
OnlyLovers · 24/08/2014 16:37

In it!

Toooldtobearsed · 24/08/2014 17:20

germgirl NOOOOOO

Bacon sandwich, thick sliced white processed bread, brown sauce.
Sausage sandwich, half a stottie, tomato ketchup.

This is the law.

steff13 · 24/08/2014 17:32

Ketchup on bacon?! No, no, no.

A proper bacon sandwich is a BLT:
Good white bread, toasted
Bacon
Lettuce
Tomato
Mayo

Fruityb · 24/08/2014 17:34

Heave I hate tomato sauce! I really dislike it. And I find it an young when people make me a sandwich and put it on without asking! I've had that before and then been frowned at when I ask for one without. It's polite to ask first surely lol.

Fruityb · 24/08/2014 17:35

And when I say an young I mean annoying. The auto correct on this phone is stupid

Badvoc123 · 24/08/2014 17:36

NO!!
You heathen.
It's brown sauce on bacon sandwiches.
White bread and brown sauce.
It's the law!

bookcave · 24/08/2014 17:37

Ketchup - never
Brown sauce - sometimes
And I'm a Southerner.

Chwaraeteg · 24/08/2014 17:42

My in laws serve bacon sandwiches with NO spread / butter. Personally I go for real butter, with or without tomato sauce. Whoever it is that has suggested mayonnaise is just WRONG.

OnlyLovers · 24/08/2014 17:43

Chwaraeteg*, I'd like to shake your in-laws by the hand. Grin

steff13 · 24/08/2014 17:44

What is brown sauce?

Lagoonablue · 24/08/2014 17:45

Brown for me.

unlucky83 · 24/08/2014 17:49

YABvvvvU Tomato ketchup on a bacon butty is just wrong
Soft white bread roll, lots of real butter, streaky bacon cooked till crunchy and HP sauce
Not generic brown sauce - it has to be HP
I eat maybe one or two bacon sandwiches a year (although I could murder one now!) no-one else in the house likes HP, I don't really have it with anything else ...but I let it take up valuable fridge space ...because there is no alternative...
(and I'm originally a northerner)

Pasithea · 24/08/2014 17:50

Brown sauce on bacon sandwiches
Mayo on BLT
Tommy sauce on fish and chips BUT
Brown sauce on chip butties
Anything with Mushroom or egg is Mushroom Ketchup
No mixing sauces

these are the 5 sauce laws. It is THE LAW
