Tomato ketchup?

Had lunch at a relatives house today. They gave us bacon sandwiches, but only supplied brown sauce (travesty!). When I politely asked if there was any tomato ketchup, I just got a blank look followed by "well, I suppose we might have some tomato puree in the back of the cupboard".

AIBU to think that bacon sandwiches need tomato ketchup and it's just wrong to not even offer any?

I'm on the fence - depends entirely on the quality of bacon. If it's a good nice thick slice, with a high enough bacon:bread ratio, then no need for sauce of any kind because it detracts from the awesomeness of the butty.

However if it's some piddly little thin slice crap with one rather per two slices of horrid cheap crap bacon, then it needs sauce to liven it up.

Heinz tomato sauce on crispy Bacon, thick white bread or preferably a Soda Bread Roll, toasted. No sauce if adding a runny fried egg.

HP sauce on Sausages, or mango chutney if the sausages are 'posh' pork and apple type.

Bacon and black pudding mmmm but needs ketchup otherwise it's too dry.

But nothing can beat a Bratty with Curry Ketchup and Senf in a crispy French stick.

God, starving now

Just read a super news item about a little boy in Dorset who complained about the artwork on Waitrose Brown Sauce, and in reply Waitrose have produced a limited edition of his design! Grin

Wonder if his Mum is on MN, if so, well done Harry!

Aww, that's lovely Allalone!! Well done Harry, indeed. Sweet.

Eve - you've obviously lived in Germany. Bratty and Senf, yummy (but for mid-morning snack, surely)!!! (And still not as delicious as a bacon butty with butter for brekkie) Grin

I also lived in Germany for a couple of years, but without the luxury of the NAAFI, so couldn't get proper bacon (or white sliced bread, unless I took a special trip to M&S in Strasbourg). Could get the American icky rashers, but not the same! Proper bacon was one thing I missed sorely!

YABU. The only way to eat a bacon sandwich is with butter alone, and the bacon so crisp it almost snaps. Mmmm.

Thinnish bread, lashings of salted butter and a mountain of bacon. Happy heart attack.

YADDDNBU. Tomato ketchup on bacon, sausage or bacon-and-sausage sandwiches at all times. (And I'm Northern.)

YABU. Until you have tried a bacon sandwich made by me then you haven't lived. Three or four slices of thin smokey M&S bacon fried until it's crispy. Placed inside lovely seeded toasted bread spread with lurpack. No sauce needed, absolutely fantastic Grin

Farmhouse loaf thickly sliced, butter, slightly crisped bacon, brown sauce and pickled onions thinly sliced.

I was waiting for someone to mention fried eggs
My way would be. Buttered toast, crispy bacon, fried runny egg and tomato ketchup.

ONLY brown sauce. Anything else and I wouldn't eat it! Grin

Ketchup? rofl,

I thought you were going to say butter.

Ketchup is just stupid and only compatible with sausages really.

Tut ! Bacon butties should have goats cheese on them with beetroot.

Yum.

HP sauce here although we usually stock ketchup for the children, I wouldn't bother if they weren't around as we don't eat it.
