Subway - Halal issue

I feel a bit annoyed that 200 Subway stores are removing their Ham and Bacon due to requests from their Muslim customers.

I think the process of producing Halal meat is cruel, but obviously that isn't an issue to Subway.

There are plenty of Subway stores that advertise their pork as being Halal so why this? It's not earth shattering stuff but ...

Should I move to a muslim country and want to open a strip club would that be allowed?

But RedFocus, have you actually checked what your local Subway is doing? As it's only a few of their outlets going halal, the chances are you dcs can still get their ham fix. Or you could try to move them onto a wider diet.

Sikhs do take their religion as seriously (that is really insulting to say otherwise). I said they wouldn't make a fuss...as in, they were go for the vegetarian option. There was no need to insult a whole religion.

Well, it sounds like Sikhs don't take their religion as seriously as Muslims which is just as well if there's going to be a conflict between one wanting all meat to be ritually slaughtered and one not being able to eat it.

Of course they take their religion seriously - at least, many of them do. However, the Sikh religion teaches people to be accepting of other faiths, so perhaps they're less likely to kick up a fuss about halal meat just for the sake of it, unlike some people on this thread. They're more likely to eat the veggie option or go somewhere else for lunch instead.

Halal Subways have a big sign on them saying they are halal. Like on this page.

You'll only get mixed up if you're an idiot.

Ok so you run a subway in an area highly populated with Muslim people.
Many strict Muslims won't go there due to the meats being handled together (As a vegetarian I know how useless subway staff can be when it comes to veg mixing with meat). You want to increase sales and you see your store don't sell much pork anyway. It makes sense to stop pork and go halal so that the majority of he people in the area will eat there. You still serve everything else, it doesn't stop non Muslims eating there. Just increases customers.

BuzzardBird and Jinsei my real point was that the religion/feelings of Sikhs (and others) was in danger of being dismissed as unimportant compared to that of Muslims.

I think the fact that Sikhs are less likely to make a fuss is all the more reason to watch out for their rights too. They can avoid a subway and so can I, but increasingly we're hearing that it's okay to serve halal to everyone (in schools for example) because the opinions of people who don't want it don't count.

That general point bothers me far more than this one chain. If subway are that sloppy with the food I'm surprised that anyone wants to eat there.

I couldn't agree more - but then I prefer to see everyone's rights given proper attention, not just those who shout loudest

Your point about the schools is the same one that I made upthread; as I said, it's fine where folks can simply go elsewhere, but perhaps not quite so good when they can't
