Subway - Halal issue

CiderLover · 30/04/2014 16:04

I feel a bit annoyed that 200 Subway stores are removing their Ham and Bacon due to requests from their Muslim customers.

I think the process of producing Halal meat is cruel, but obviously that isn't an issue to Subway.

There are plenty of Subway stores that advertise their pork as being Halal so why this? It's not earth shattering stuff but ...

Should I move to a muslim country and want to open a strip club would that be allowed?

This debate is, honestly, almost never about animal welfare, and almost always somewhere on the spectrum from reactionariness to Islamophobia.

This.

cantbelievethisishppening · 01/05/2014 15:50

Tread Someone objects to something on animal welfare grounds and they are bigot. Could you be any more sanctimonious? Probably.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/05/2014 15:50

"with a bit of common sense"? Really? This is religion we're talking about

Well, yes ... and as I've said on other threads, NONE of them would have "protected status" if it was up to me. However the situation is what it is, somehow we have to make it work for everyone, and for me that means being very careful not to create a perception of one group being favoured over any another

cantbelievethisishppening · 01/05/2014 15:55

almost always So that clearly leaves a small minority who object to halal meat are NOT Islamophobic. Funny that isn't it.

TillyTellTale · 01/05/2014 16:03

So, could everyone who is in favour of the government dictating to private enterprises from which licensed slaughterhouses they make purchases, and which legal products they stock, please hold up their hands?

And can you add sweetcorn on to the list of demands? Because the lack of sweetcorn in Subway is forcing me to make lifestyle choice.

Have you noticed you can't get a dead deer/venison sub in Subway, either? Isn't that discrimination, too?

SistersOfPercy · 01/05/2014 16:06

Oh dear. Never mind..... Perhaps a speck of dust will move and you can spend the next four hours wittering on about it.

Bahahahhahhahahhahahha you do realise the irony of what you wrote there don't you?
Grin

Bahahahahahahahahahah you do understand irony don't you? Grin

SistersOfPercy · 01/05/2014 16:17

I do, do you?

cantbelievethisishppening · 01/05/2014 16:17

Tilly bravo. Quite possibly the stupidest comment yet

cantbelievethisishppening · 01/05/2014 16:20

sister I don't think you do.

TillyTellTale · 01/05/2014 16:23

Could you answer the question?

Do you want the Government to dictateto private enterprises from which licensed slaughterhouses they make purchases, and which legal products they stock?

farnywarny1192 · 01/05/2014 16:27

Some Burger Kings have stopped serving bacon due to Muslim staff

cantbelievethisishppening · 01/05/2014 16:34

What I want Tilly is for ALL animals to have a quick and painless death without distress. Not 88%...not 98% but 100%. Where they go from there is neither here nor there but that won't happen anytime soon will it because certain religious groups prefer their animals to be bled to death without stunning. Sadly, according to some morons on here anyone who expresses a view contrary to that must be a bigot/UKIP supported/DM reader. Fucking mint isn't it.

BigRedBall · 01/05/2014 16:40

Should I move to a muslim country and want to open a strip club would that be allowed

THAT is a goady islamophobic comment if you ask me. Akin to the "let us build mosques in Saudi Arabia then" comment made by some EDL dumb arse! I'll find the link to that.

TillyTellTale · 01/05/2014 16:45

And are you, or have you ever been a member, of Compassion in World Farming?

TillyTellTale · 01/05/2014 16:50

What I want Tilly is for ALL animals to have a quick and painless death without distress. Not 88%...not 98% but 100%.

Bloody meaningless. Subway have said they use pre-stunned animals.
Now, how about you donate to charity [[http://www.hillside.org.uk/investigations/investigations-slaughter.htm]] that campaigns to increase humane standards for all animals, even if the slaughterer isn't a Muslim, and prosecutes illegal slaughterhouses?

TillyTellTale · 01/05/2014 16:50

Messed up link.

I think I can see your point, CantBelieve; undoubtably there are real bigots and racists about, and I'd imagine most reasonable people are very happy to see them challenged

Equally there seem to be some who'll use the same words in an attempt to close down a discussion which isn't going their way, or simply to deny someone a view they happen to disagree with

Shame really, since with a bit of give and take we can all learn so much from each other; personally I hate to see that put at risk

SistersOfPercy · 01/05/2014 17:02

fridge MrsD
I'd be willing to bet there isn't a source, and if there is it will be a disgruntled customer telling a tale twisted so far from the truth it's laughable.
(and probably accompanied by a sad face picture)

ThePowerOfMe · 01/05/2014 17:05

Here is the RSPCA report on slaughter without pre-stunning.
www.rspca.org.uk/ImageLocator/LocateAsset?asset=document&assetId=1232719611043&mode=prd

It clearly says that most halal meat is pre-stunned (The DIALREL report seems to imply that 100% of poultry in the uk is stunned) unlike most kosher meat which ends up in the open market but of course, theres no issue with that as it has nothing to do with Muslims Hmm

These 'concerns' for animal care is just a front for Islamaphobia of course.

If anyone is a conscientious meat-eater, they won't be buying a meat sub, anyway. Halal is the least of it.

Unless someone here has noticed Subway making a huge commitment to animal welfare? RSPCA freedom food stickers in the window, and only organic meat, and cheese being available (to get Soil Association certification, certain commitments to welfare have to be made)? Anyone seen that?

SistersOfPercy · 01/05/2014 17:13

Many, many threads like these are started by bigots who are attempting to start racist arguments.

And considering this is OP's only thread and they haven't come back...

Ohh I'm such a cynic.
