The most boring drug in the world.

For the people not taking it?

Just been to a 'party' at a house. Big divide between the drug takers and the non drug takers. Drug takers up and down the stairs for a line. No conversation. The rest of us flailing in the non atmosphere.

Grrr. I work in a bar so I put up with this shit at work. Now it's every time I go out for a drink or to a house.

AIBU to think bore off you boring bastards?

YANBU. Its the work of the devil imo.

bellabelly · 04/08/2013 02:20

I tried it once. It made me want to go to sleep. But I hear some people really, really like it. Drugs do tend to make people a bit boring, I find.

AgentZigzag · 04/08/2013 02:24

There was never any about the group I hung out with when I was at an age to up for taking it, but if the non's were downstairs mingling together, why weren't they having a drug free amazing time?

Why did the takers put a downer on them?

Did both groups gelling depend on the takers deigning to make conversation with the nons?

SouthernComforts · 04/08/2013 02:31

The takers were the hosts + 80% of the guests, they turned the music down till it was barely audible and disappeared upstairs to coke HQ. The nons were mutual friends of the hosts but didn't know eachother very well.

Usually I just ignore and crack on having a good night, but tonight the pendulum swung too far in the coke heads favour and the night never really took off.

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 04/08/2013 02:38

You've never been tempted just to see WTF it's all about from the other side then?

I'm not asking this to be funny, but do you think the 80% felt (or believed if you think they're not admitting how mostly shit it is) they'd had a good night?

BOF · 04/08/2013 02:40

Lol @ 'crack on' Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/08/2013 02:44

Yanbu.

People on coke labour under the misapprehension that they are the most interesting person in the room. Tiresome.

SouthernComforts · 04/08/2013 02:46

Yes, sometimes. Never enough to actually do it though.

Tbh it dosent look that amazing from the outside! Swinging jawlines and over confidence.

I drink a lot and I'm usually life and soul of the party but it's hard work when people are only focussed on their next line.

'People on coke labour under the misapprehension that they are the most interesting person in the room.'

Not that I've ever knowingly talked to anyone who's had it, but I'd just be pleased for them Grin

It just seems odd you're saying you're normally life/soul but actually just sat there with a thousand yd stare not jollying everyone along so they had a great time (which is what you're saying you expected the takers to do for you).

Can't work out how that's the fault of the bog botherers.

SouthernComforts · 04/08/2013 03:04

That's the difference, I am around coke takers a lot. I've seen the huge increase over the last few years. I find it depressing. Just my opinion.

You could compare it to four people on a night out. 3 smoke and go outside to smoke every so often leaving you sat alone. As they get more drunk they smoke more and take longer each time. You are bored and as much as you try to enjoy the time that they are inside with you, the time you spend sat alone while they smoke puts a downer on the night.

OP posts:
ravenAK · 04/08/2013 03:14

I'm not sure it's the coke as such (although yes it does make people tedious & gurny), as a critical mass being reached, whereby more than half of the guests are snootling up & downstairs with what they fondly imagine is a 'secret' from the non-cokeys.

Yy to smoker analogy.

Anything which excludes a significant minority of a given group (as opposed to only being indulged in by a minority so that the majority can party on without it), especially whilst being something slightly dodgy &/or restricted, is going to bugger the atmosphere of the whole gathering in precisely this way.

Not sure what you can do about it, though.

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 03:22

Yes it is. I think in their minds they're extremely witty and oh so wonderfully interesting. Not quite how it comes across, however. Droning would be closer to the truth.

AgentZigzag · 04/08/2013 03:28

It's like you're annoyed at people making different choices to you, I'm not suggesting you should have a snort/smoke, but if you've chosen to hang about with people who take drugs/smoke and it pisses you off, then why are you hanging about with them?

Not having a go like, just interested.

garlicagain · 04/08/2013 03:40

I'm with you. I used to work & socialise in circles where coke was mandatory. I did enough of it myself, to join in, but it just doesn't "work" for me. I can talk bollocks very loudly without chemical assistance Wink

A crowd of people going "I'm great listen to me I'm great I'm great listen to me I'm great I'm great listen to me I'm great I'm great listen to me I'm great I'm great listen to me I'm great" at each other gets pretty boring.

Bring back E! At least it made people friendly Grin

garlicagain · 04/08/2013 03:44

I don't think it's really like the smokers (well, I wouldn't would I.) You can go sit in the garden with the smokers, they're still the same people you chose to spend your evening with. If they all snort up a yard of marching powder, though, they change character.

AgentZigzag · 04/08/2013 03:44

Maybe I'm just judging it on the things I've had dealings with and I'm underestimating how much it brings out the tosser in people.

TabithaStephens · 04/08/2013 04:22

I would never go to a party where people were taking cocaine.

MissTweed · 04/08/2013 04:28

Not a problem for us!! When my husband joined the police 6 years ago we stopped getting party invites!!! I have been told a few times by different people "sorry you would have been invited but..."
How to ruin your social life!! Confused

squoosh · 04/08/2013 04:28

I've tried cocaine a few times to little or no effect. Don't care if others do drugs, I don't suffer any moral qualms, but hate when people think it makes them more interesting. It really doesn't.

Of all the drugs cocaine really brings out the dick in people.

MrsKoala · 04/08/2013 05:18

I actually find people on Acid, stoned and drunk much more boring. However, most parties i've been to where people have been doing coke, they haven't been doing it in the loo, and everyone has been doing it.

exoticfruits · 04/08/2013 05:32

I think it is the tedious and boring who take it in the first place, therefore it will only make them more tedious and boring- however they are probably under the misapprehension that they are interesting and exciting.

exoticfruits · 04/08/2013 05:33

If they really were interesting and exciting they wouldn't need it.

MrsKoala · 04/08/2013 05:38

Also young people Exotic, I would think someone of 40 with dc doing it at a party was a boring nob. I would think a group of late teens/early 20s would be in their 'experimental' phase. The 40 yo i know who do it still think they are young and cool which just comes across as sad really.

If the person who is on it is boring then they are boring before. Some interesting people take it, can 'handle' it and you wouldn't even notice they are on it. They can still have quite interesting conversations. It's a bit like a wig, you only notice the bad ones.

MrsKoala · 04/08/2013 05:40

I don't know anyone who has 'needed' it. That would definitely be sad if you did. Most people i know who have taken it do it because it makes them feel good, not because they are shy or something. It's not about how they appear to others but more the way it makes you feel.
