To think slippers are for old people?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 13:35

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

valiumredhead · 20/03/2012 13:38

You are wrong.

Snowboarder · 20/03/2012 13:38

They are not very sexy are they? That said, we have slate on our ground floor which gets v.cold in winter. I have a pair of quilted North Face slippers which I sometimes wear but would never wear in company.

Thetokengirl · 20/03/2012 13:38

Noooo!
I love my slippers. They are white stuff pretend fur lined boots.
They keep my feet lovely and warm and also mean that I can't feel any of the bits on the floor that need hoovering up Grin
I am 42 btw.

DH would however agree with you and thinks my slippers smell

Kellamity · 20/03/2012 13:38

YAB unbelievably U - but then I am probably a lot older than you!! Wink

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/03/2012 13:39

YABVVU.

Why should only old people get to have lovely warm feet and not us (relative) youngsters?!

naturalbaby · 20/03/2012 13:39

I am 30, I've had slippers for years. They are not old lady slippers and reserved for winter mornings between getting out of bed and getting dressed. Until dc1 arrived we had slate flooring so socks weren't warm enough in winter.

Taking your slippers to other people's houses is a bit strange though, I've never seen anyone do that.

Birdsgottafly · 20/03/2012 13:39

What do you were in the house then and do you have carpet or wooden floors?

I were hard soled slippers, i live with the back door open and i am in and out all day, when i am at home.

I couldn't just wear socks because of pet hairs in the house.

Is it perhaps a regional thing,i can remember everyone wearing slippers and my DD's friends (26,16, 14) all do.

Figgygal · 20/03/2012 13:40

Im 30 and always wear slippers though they are feathery slipper socks so not old nana ones

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 13:40

We have carpets in bedrooms, living room, floorboards in dressing room and study and tiles in bathrooms and kitchen.

wear, not were

WilsonFrickett · 20/03/2012 13:40

YABVU. But I agreed with you until I moved here, to the draftiest house in the world, the house where the drafts invite their drafty pals over for a holiday. You'd have slippers if you lived here....

valiumredhead · 20/03/2012 13:40

We have stone tiles and wooden flooring - we all have slippers!

TheCunningStunt · 20/03/2012 13:41

YABU. But what do I know. We come in, put slippers on. If you are going out the back, there are special garden shoes to put on for there, then back into house slippers. Yes, thats right...we have garden slippers tooBlush

In my defence, you go through the kitchen to the garden and it's a light floor easily dirtied. So kids just bung on crocs for going out and remove them before they step back in

Thetokengirl · 20/03/2012 13:42

Lesley
Before you try and link threads, it is NOT a sign of old age Grin

And I forgot to say before, but YABVU.

Birdsgottafly · 20/03/2012 13:42

So do you have bare feet around the house?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2012 13:42

YABVU.

I take my slippers to other people's houses. Only if I am staying over though, not if I am going for the day Grin

I also keep some slippers here for visitors.

AWomanCalledHorse · 20/03/2012 13:42

I'm 24 and currently wearing my slippers. I look AMAZING in them!!

YABU

tumbleweedblowing · 20/03/2012 13:42

YANNNNNBU

End of. And also 47. My "best" friend bought me slippers for Christmas. It caused me to re-evaluate our 30 plus year friendship. I decided it may just be a problem with her upbringing though, and give her the benefit of the doubt.

Slippers are JUST WRONG.

diddl · 20/03/2012 13:42

I live in north Germany therefore I have slippers!

Hammy02 · 20/03/2012 13:43

YABU. I'm 10 years younger than you OP and I always wear slippers if I'm in my dressing gown. Wooden/tiled floors in much of our house. Learned my lesson after standing on some broken glass.

LexieSinclair · 20/03/2012 13:44
Shock I have always had slippers - they are essential, even in summer!
noinspiration · 20/03/2012 13:45

You obviously don't live in a freezing cold drafty old house. If you did you'd have slippers... or chilblains.

Visitors here always bring their own slippers, from their second visit.

2ombie5layer · 20/03/2012 13:45

YABU I am 33 and have been wearing slippers ever since I went to uni and needed them to walk from my room to either the kitchen or bathroom (the floor was manky and I boak at manky floors). If they are only for old people then why do shops aimed at younger people sell them? (ie La Senza etc)

LordGiveMeStrength · 20/03/2012 13:45

I think since you have carpets you may not need them as much as people with other floor surfaces do.

We have hardwood floors for most of the downstairs and slippers make it so much nicer.

Plus I don't like dirt and whatnot walking all over the floors where my kids crawl so we don't really wear shoes inside.
