To think slippers are for old people?

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

The only person I remember who wore slippers when I was growing up used to piss down her leg

Not shit admittedly but it did nothing for the smell of her house

Hi all
Do any of you own a pair of UGG boots ?
They are slippers . Which is why they do not have very much support. I wear mine as they were intended ( inside as slippers ) I think they look very strange worn outside. I also have an old house which is cold in winter and the ugg boots are perfect for this comfy, warm and cool.

Sausag3dog · 23/03/2012 16:22

Don't like slippers, dressing gowns or cardigans out of paranoia about aging. Will wear a coat inside and suffer cold feet instead, even outside on the drive in winter.

"Don't like slippers, dressing gowns or cardigans out of paranoia about aging. Will wear a coat inside and suffer cold feet instead, even outside on the drive in winter."

So you worry about looking like a plonker because you are afraid of looking old, but you don't mind looking like a plonker anyway Smile.

I own all three because being warm is higher in my list of priorities than being fashionable and young looking but shivering with cold.

Are you 17?

marriedinwhite · 23/03/2012 19:11

Have just got home. Have been wearing 1 inch heel court shoes all day; walked home in my Josef Siebel shoes and now I am here, my slippers feel wonderful.

Am 51 - my feet didn't ache until I was pregnant at 35.

NowWeKnow · 23/03/2012 19:15

Blimey I'm wearing my slippers, and a cardigan as wellBlush I'm also 47, but I've always had all three my whole life. Sometimes I'll even have a hot water bottleShock. Anyone for a sing-song and a murray mint?Grin

I think there's probably more to being old than what you wear indoors on your feet.

(All this was fields when I was a girl y'know)

GrittersWifeAndProud · 23/03/2012 19:18

I have slippers! 4 pairs infact. DP has 2 pairs. I am 20, he is 22.

YABVU.

CremeEggThief · 23/03/2012 19:21

I was so proud of the new Fat face slippers I bought in January, I took a photo of them for Facebook and I got over 10 likes. I am 34.

NowWeKnow · 23/03/2012 19:21

When I get cold I look all grey/blue and miserable and well...old er.

So by keeping me warm, my slippers make me look youngSmile

CremeEggThief · 23/03/2012 19:22

I also love cardigans and am proud of my electric blanket I bought the winter I was 30. So there!

karinajack · 23/03/2012 20:04

I have some gorgeous cable knit fur lined slipper boots and live in them.. I don't change to drive to others houses ... Wish I could wear them to work but customers wouldn't approve lol why should only old people live in comfort ?

Tranquilidade · 23/03/2012 20:24

Like somebody way upthread, I have hard soled slippers so I can go out to the garage or garden in them if need to.

They are just like shoes but there's no chance of me treading in germs or anything nasty as I don't really go out in them (not out out anyway!)

TerrierMalpropre · 23/03/2012 21:10

Cardigan fan here too! Is anyone familiar with the children's program, "Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood"? That's me. I have my indoors cardigan and sneakers that I change into when I get home. I would fit right in at the senior's centre Grin.

TerrierMalpropre · 23/03/2012 21:12

...and I have Crocs as "outdoor slippers".

lesley33 · 23/03/2012 21:58

Cardigans, hot water bottles and dressing gowns?? I haven't been to a MNs meet up but I honestly had this idea of a load of trendily dressed woman with stylishly cut hair. Now I know the truth! Grin

I used to think like you but my Mother bought my indoor ugh style boots for my birthday (my flat is freezing with tiled floors) and I'm now a slipper convert.

I don't take them to other people's houses although I do have a pair of crocs or semi-permanent loan at a friends house as it is cold and draughty and her kids get upset if you don't wear slippers.

eurochick · 23/03/2012 22:23

My slippers are definitely not for old people - they are leopard print fluffy boots!

I refused to wear slippers for years as a kid. I now love them. I think the increase in the popularity of hard flooring over carpets over the past 20 years might have something to do with it.

lesley33 · 23/03/2012 23:09

"Fun" slippers are almost worse imo.

I'm 28 and have 3 pairs of slippers! Nothing I like better than curling up on the sofa in my nice warm slippers, my comfy gap hoodie and a glass of red! Heaven! Grin

Jins · 24/03/2012 00:03

Her kids get upset if you don't wear slippers!!!!!!!

Speechless.
