To think slippers are for old people?

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

YABVVU. I love my slippers. I also take them when I go to visit friends who have laminate flooring and don't like you to wear shoes around their house. If I don't take them then my feet freeze! If my feet are cold, I am cold and then I am grumpy and not a fun friend. . .

WandaDoff · 20/03/2012 14:52

I love my slippers & have at least 8 pairs. Blush

bijou3 · 20/03/2012 14:55

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 14:57

I am shocked at any links you have posted to slippers you wear. You all seem to be wearing old lady or "fun" slippers. You are not convincing me Sad

Jins · 20/03/2012 15:03

YANBU I'm a similar age and wouldn't be caught dead wearing slippers

FreudianSlipper · 20/03/2012 15:05

i agree op. i do not wear slippers, yes they are for oldies and i am not yet 40

i have carpet, wooden, slate and ceramic tile floors i prefer bare feet or flip flops, sometimes socks as the floors can feel very cold at times

ds has those sock slippers but prefers to have bare often very cold feet

Dont your feet start to resemble horse hooves from not wearing slippers inside?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 15:09

I wear shoes indoor bijou.

Horse hooves?? Grin

Oh, I wore slippers and uni and as I've had wooden floors ever since, I've always worn them, more so since having DS crawling round the floor when I decided it was just not hyginic to have people walking around in shoes. I don't know anyone who didn't have slippers in their 20s.

However, one of my pairs of 'slippers' are actually fluffy boots that I've seen other people wearing outside as boots. (freaks) I have allocated them slipper status so they are clean. If you want to avoid walking the muck from the street round your house (which is quite frankly disgusting), you could buy a pair of ballet pumps and declare they are for indoor use only, get some cheap slip on shoes for your equally anti-slipper DH to reduce the filthiness of your flooring.

FilterCoffee · 20/03/2012 15:14

YABU. Slippers are comfortable and I've always worn them indoors (when not wearing shoes that is :o) Who cares about looking like a catwalk model in their own home? I can see no point whatsoever in being a slipper snob and looking down one's nose at slipper-wearing.

Hulababy · 20/03/2012 15:15

Lots of younger people wear slippers.
I don't - I like bare feet. My feet don't really ever get cold.
DH does though and he is 38y, pretty much always has done as he gets cold feet. He never takes them to anyone else's house though, although has taken them on holidays when weve stayed in cottages.
We don't have shoes on in our house. Dh wears slippers. I don't. DD has slippers but doesn't wear them much.

bijou3 · 20/03/2012 15:22

Haha sorry Lesley I thought you meant your indoor shoes were horse hooves

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 15:25

Now that would be surreal Grin

Interesting, looking back at this thread, people in their 40s think that slippers are for old people, people in their late 20s and early 30s think they are acceptable things to wear. Was there a slipper fashion that happened about 10-15 years ago that people who are now in their 40s missed so that it was just 'old people' who they knew who wore them?

Perhaps not wearing slippers is more of a sign of being a "40-something" whereas slipper wearing is actually a bit younger?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 15:35

That is interesting Lydia. Perhaps you are right.

bijou - I'm going to get horse hooves to wear indoors!

My DD works one day a week in a nursery and they have to wear ballet slippers, similar to juney's.

When i worked behind the counter in an off licence i wore slippers for work.

Kitchentiles · 20/03/2012 15:50

My slippers are from Fat Face. Old people do not shop in Fat Face, only cool surfy people. You are surely wrong.
