To think slippers are for old people?

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

I bought SIX new pairs of slippers yesterday. Yes SIX you weirdo.

Slippers are da bomb.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 20/03/2012 15:58

My feet feel so trapped in shoes so I take them off at home but I cant stand to feel the dirty floor under my bare feet.

That is why slippers are essential. ESSENTIAL.

I am younger than you only just

Jins · 20/03/2012 16:03

Not wearing slippers is obviously very aging.

I still can't bring myself to buy a pair though

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 16:04

Jin I just couldn't bring myself to buy a pair either. For me it would be like buying a wolf fleece. Or a bed jacket.

If I don't wear slippers in my tiled kitchen, then stand to wash up, cook, bake etc I get an achy back/legs from the hard floor!

Jins · 20/03/2012 16:12

Exactly. Bed jackets!! It's all in the same ball park

Pandemoniaa · 20/03/2012 16:14

Bollocks are they. I might be old but I've always had a fondness for slippers. Living in an old house with solid floors it makes complete sense. And I'd not normally own up to sensible either.

AutumnSummers · 20/03/2012 16:14

YA of-coure BU. We have hardwood floors and wear slippers so as not to muddy or mark them with shoes. Also because our youngest has just started crawling so I'd rather not risk accidentally standing on her or catching her with my New Rocks. Also, slippers are more comfy and better for your feet in the long run wether your house is carpeted or hardwood /laminate.

If you're so fussy over it why not get those slipper-socks with the grips that all the young ones are wearing these days.

Labootin · 20/03/2012 16:16

I wear flip flops at home (Dubai) and hippy knitted socks ( bought from a tat stall in Goa) when back in Europe.

(ha ..bet you thought you couldn't name drop a slipper thread !)

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 16:17

Until this time last year I would have agreed with you. But then DD1 bought me a pair (for mothers day I think) to wear in hospital when I had DD2. I amazed myself by loving them & wearing them every single day (we have cold hard floor in the kitchen)

They were just cheapy ones & wore out quite quickly, so I got myself another pair, this time from Moshulu & have worn them every day since (I am wearing them right now)

Jins · 20/03/2012 16:21

or a tweed skirt and american tan support stockings..

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 20/03/2012 16:23

You are wrong. Very very wrong.

Slipper boots are the best item of clothing ever invented.

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 20/03/2012 16:25

You need slippers in our house, you'd have blue feet in the winter otherwise.

I want these, but at £120 a pair I guess I will have to make do with my very poor imitations.

Jins · 20/03/2012 16:25

flip flops are good. I wear flip flops

Belmo · 20/03/2012 16:26

YABenormouslyU! I'm wearing my cosy fluffy boot-slippers right now. My feet are comfy, I win :)

Butkin · 20/03/2012 16:28

Slippers are great and we all wear them particularly because we have slab tiles in the kitchen.

I have to say though they are not like the awful things my parents buy (flabby woollen things in a nasty check pattern) but are rather smart fitted ones in velvet with a crest.

I therefore think YABU and I find wearing (presumably dirty) shoes indoors boak.

juneybean · 20/03/2012 16:29

I'm a nanny so I can wear slippers to work :)

Good choice strandedbear ;)

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 16:44

Cinammon - they look like old ladies boots Hmm

I never wear slippers, but I'm not fussed if other people do , I've never had anyone bring their slippers to my house though

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 20/03/2012 16:51

Warm old ladies boots though Smile. It all gets a bit pointless here though because I wear mine uggs style with something very short and flimsy as I can't bare nightwear that's not sexy.

Jins · 20/03/2012 16:54

lesley and I

the rest of mumsnet

Grin
NarkedPuffin · 20/03/2012 16:55

DH finds anything I wear sexy. Seriously. Even wooly hats Hmm

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 16:56

That made me laugh Jin!

OP posts:
harrietlichman · 20/03/2012 16:57

YABVU! I love my slippers - it signifies the end of work and the start of relaxing when I put 'em on!
However, I would never, ever, EVER take them with me to someone's house. It would be like taking your dressing gown.

shewhowines · 20/03/2012 17:09

No Jin and Lesley - can i join your gang please?

There is no way I could bring myself to deliver my tender feet to the mercy of those devils can't bring myself to type the word . Urgh! Makes me go all funny just thinking about it. Another 40+ person though......
