To think slippers are for old people?

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 13:35

I am 47. When I was younger no-one wore slippers once they were no longer kids. Suddenly in the last 5 years all my friends have slippers. Some of them even bring them when they visit friends so as be "more comfortable". FFS thats what my gran did when she is in her 70's and 80's!

Both DP and I are united on this. Slippers are for old people. We are not old and so thus will NOT have slippers.

So AIBU

(And I am being serious. Both DP and I do think this).

But Accessorize sell slippers. Ergo, slippers are funky.

qazxc · 20/03/2012 14:09

how do you keep your feet warm inside? shoes dirty the place and are not comfy 24/7; socks are not warm enough and do not protect oyu should you step on lego. i consider my slippers essential so does my boyfriend and he's still in his twenties. that said i wouldn't bring them to someone else house.

AllOverIt · 20/03/2012 14:09

YABU

NarkedPuffin · 20/03/2012 14:10

I've always hated slippers. I wander around the house barefoot or in old sandals.

Then I discovered a whole new world of joy.

Here

They make my feet happy.

confusedpixie · 20/03/2012 14:10

YABVU. DP wears proper old Grandad slippers, he's 23 Blush I used to wear a pair of fat face slipper boots bought for me one year but they shrunk after washing :( I've just replaced them with a bog standard pair of slippers, I'm gutted and delighted all at the same time! Grin

AWimbaWay · 20/03/2012 14:12

I have worn the same style slipper since i was 14, that's over 20 years of wearing these only the cheap fake sheepskin ones from the supermarket. I'm so stylish.

MrsHoarder · 20/03/2012 14:14

I always have slippers in the house and I'm in my mid-twenties, although quite often they are hiding under my chair whilst I curl up on it/burrow in a blanket.

DH has slippers, quite often doesn't bother and then gets foot problems due to cold feet (our house is cool and we have laminate flooring). So I roll my eyes at him and keep wearing my own.

sunshineandbooks · 20/03/2012 14:16

I used to agree with you but then I moved to a house with no central heating and changed my mind.

I can't stand wearing shoes when at home as I like to put my feet up on the sofa etc.

lesley33 · 20/03/2012 14:17

OMG Puffin - I clicked your link Shock. Do you really wear those slippers??

My idea of MNers being a stylish lot has vanished on this one thread.

If I don't wear slippers, I get chilblains.

CreepyWeeBrackets · 20/03/2012 14:24

I didn't believe in slippers for the under-60's when younger as fluffy socks should do the job. The DC think so too. Fine if you can come home from school / work on your own and immediately get comfortable as they do. Not so when arriving home with young DC and all their crap to unpack and usually a nappy change and immediate providing of food and so on and so forth.

These are the very best invention EVER. 90 seconds to do and they warm your feet up while doing all the above jobs. I always have one set in reserve, I rely on them that much Blush

NarkedPuffin · 20/03/2012 14:26

I only wear them in the evenings ,but yes. I ADMIT IT. I LOVE THEM!

Mine are grey and white (second best pair) cream (nicest pair) and red and white (back up pair). And they have pom poms.

chocolatehobnobs · 20/03/2012 14:26

I'm 34 and love my slippers

NarkedPuffin · 20/03/2012 14:27

They have (fake) furry lining.

NarkedPuffin · 20/03/2012 14:28

I'm 33.

lostboysfallin · 20/03/2012 14:28

They are for cold feet
Yabu

plus3 · 20/03/2012 14:28

I thought like you once... Then I was forced into buying some slippers (had to go into hospital & I know what gets dropped on those floors Grin...)

tbh I have never looked back. My feet are warm. So warm. And cosy. You might even say toasty.

Embrace the slipper. (but not in that way...that would be weird Hmm)

MissFaversham · 20/03/2012 14:31

UABU I love my slippers so does dp and ds (love their slippers, not mine by the way)

Cherriesarelovely · 20/03/2012 14:31

Oh no OP! I am a fanatical slipper wearer now, the kind who takes them to people's houses! I feel horrible if I haven't got my slipppers on almost as soon as I get in from work!

Abcinthia · 20/03/2012 14:32

DP and I wear slippers and we are in our early 20s. They keep feet warm and my slippers are really comfy.

They are especially good in my kitchen which has stone tiles. If I go barefoot or wear socks, my feet feel freezing after a few minutes, which isn't nice when I'm spending a long time cooking or baking. But with my slippers on, my feet stay warm and makes it more pleasant to be in there.

MrsHoarder · 20/03/2012 14:34

lesley we can be stylish outside the house. Slippers are for comfortably mooching around inside the house.

worldgonecrazy · 20/03/2012 14:34

I love my slippers, sheepskin bootees. My feet think they've gone to heaven when I put them on after a day of gorgeous but uncomfortable shoes. Yes, slippers are for old people but that doesn't mean young people can't wear them. Anyway, I'm 42 so I'm middle-aged :)

DD loves her slippers (uggs) and we will be upgrading her when we go the Celtic sheepskin shop in May.

MsVestibule · 20/03/2012 14:34

I rarely wore slippers until I moved into my DHs house, which had laminate floors. He also had (note past tense, TG) two cats - one would bring half a kilo of mud in on his paws every day, and another had occasional diarrhoea. So AFAIWK, slippers were essential.

On a side note, when I was in my early twenties, a boyfriend bought me a pair of pink fluffy flamingo slippers for Christmas, with a long neck that came up mid shin. And that was the only present he bought me that year. I'm ashamed to say he lasted 2 years after that Blush.

MsVestibule · 20/03/2012 14:37

Ooh, Narked, slipper porn, love it.

InfiniteFairylights · 20/03/2012 14:44

YABU! I love my slippers and I have been known to take them to people's houses, but only if they are 'shoes off' people. I hate having cold feet.
