It got worse over lockdown.i have had day 1 before and failed but this time I am starting off prepared. I have books to read. I have joined Mumsnet for support and have told my family and friends.

Morning everyone and happy Friday! Im day 5 today Grin so this will be my first weekend test! Having my hair done at MILs house which usually involves Wine I'm going to tell her I'm dieting and can't have wine!

Plans are to leave in some nice tonic waters/juices/herbal teas and we are taking the kids on some outdoor walks etc. I'm actually really excited to be hangover free for once and just enjoying running round in nature after the kids. I might get some alcohol free drink to go with Sunday roast but I'm not those even appeal to me tbh.

I've also bought myself 2 new thriller books on my kindle (I love drinking tea while reading so that will distract me from wanting wine) and plan to treat myself to some new pyjamas with the money I would have wasted on alcohol.

Anyone else putting plans in place to avoid temptation?

OrchidJewel · 07/08/2020 10:06

Oh no your poor son @Ymna1234. I'm glad I'm not the only one not mentioning it to people yet. We do rounds so wouldn't get away with it. To be honest I'll worm my way out of it, they would definitely know something was afoot.

@Okayokayok enjoy your hair do, dieting is a good one to use. I read about 3 or 4 books on my Kindle a week and love a good thriller. Pass me on some authors. Just finished Tim Weaver's, I am missing, have a goo at that.

I just dropped my rusty bike down to be serviced. I finally have all my kids on bikes which is massive. Picking it up on Monday and will mosey out with them (it's a new aim). I plan on getting more tonic, soda and lime. Kids to bed. Great minds re jammies, I have new ones and will hit my chair with Kindle. Have a Vera to watch ((if DH will tolerateSmile.

This will be my 3rd weekend sober. It's a great feeling waking up fresher, more positive, more tolerant and happier. I have my moments but getting easier. DH asked me how I was doing this morning and he nodded along. It's a start and yesterday he was definitely pulling his weight more unasked, so slowly but surely hey

Good luck everyone on your first weekend stick with it (says she that would easily neck a bottle of vino come 6.30)

I'm still here🙂day 5 for me. Friday usually means wine but I've got an elderflower presse for tonight 🙂

noel66 · 07/08/2020 18:06

Hope your all doing ok

OrchidJewel · 07/08/2020 23:49

@ymna1234 Grin

Weeing like a racehorse here from all the elderflower tonic @noel66 lol Fridays are hard (don't know why though as I drank every night) think as it was the 'weekend' I could officially drink and even more.

I'm still repeating the 'no one has ever said I wish I had a bottle of wine last night'

Just started Craig Beck's book. I read on another thread that Annie Grace has something on coping with cravings, I'll look that up tomorrow

Hi, sounds like everyone is doing really well!
I started off with you all at the beginning of the thread, then had 2 days drinking Sadbut I'm back in it now, on day 3. So a bit behind but not too much.
I had some blood tests done a few days ago and my liver function tests showed my liver enzymes are raised. Not dangerously so, but above normal range and triple what they were when I had bloods done 6 months ago. Dr said this indicates that my liver is inflamed, which I suspected as I've had upper right quadrant pain for a while. If that's not enough to keep me stopped, I don't know what is. I will have the bloods repeated in 3 months so that gives me time to do everything possible to help repair my poor liver. Has anyone else had high LFTs?
Hope everyone has a good day. I'm at work but looking forward to a Becks Blue in the sun later.

OrchidJewel · 08/08/2020 09:31

Gosh that's a great achievement ymna. Enjoy your day out. Great to have a plan for your 7 year old. Every day I wonder which of the 7 dwarfs my so will be, angry, sad, happy etc. Loved that segment in Friends with chandelier saying 'stop naming dwarfs'.

Caught DH trying to tuck into my elderflower tonic last night, nearly had a fit as I had barely any left. In fairness he laughed and drank another juice. I will pick up loads more later. He is a divil for tucking into kids meals (so they can't have seconds) and all their soft drinks. Drives me nuts. He has his own food.

Got a great sleep, read till 1am. Up early yoga done in peace, DH gone for his mental health hike. Might bring kids to local beach roasters here today

I'm lurking on the thread where a poor girl is seeking advice for her DHs secret drinking. Very sad and a reminder to keep sober.

Also read about clipper organic infusion tea (helps you sleep seemingly)

Hope everyone else is doing well :)

OrchidJewel · 08/08/2020 09:37

@pantstothis I see on other threads they call it the reset button.

I totally understand how frightening waiting for blood tests are, thinking you'll be told just the worst news that really I've done to myself. I won't ever ever forget it. It is a fright sometimes you need. Seemingly the liver is terrific at repairing itself, not that that's an excuse to hammer away. I couldn't believe my liver results were normal. My DH had high liver reading a few years ago (not a big drinker at all) stayed off the liquor completely and 3 months had a normal reading.

Enjoy your BB in the sun later and waking up fresh, happy and proud of yourself Smile

Good to hear everyone is doing well and a big hello to new posters definitely need judgement here. Ywna thanks for my birthday wishes I had a lovely day. It's funny because ordinarily I would have had alcohol yesterday with our meal out (Heineken 00) and then after when everyone came around but I didn't. However I did sleep well the first time since stopping alcohol, so day 6 for me today and I feel so much more positive. It was me that recommend damages I hope you like it.

Just downloaded Mrs D is going without highly recommend I was nodding and agreeing with everything she says. BBQ tomorrow with family so going to try some nosseco and a lyres spirit (so bit like a aperol spritz but af) hope it's not rank really looking forward to it.

Morning, hope everyone had a lovely (ish) sober sat night (ymna and in laws weren't too annoying lol).

Just started Craig Beck's, Aloohol lied to me. To keep me on the straight and narrow.

I had a look in the mirror. Skin definitely improving, I'm not grey and pale. Yay!! Eyes still have puffy bags. Sister gave me these eye gel pads at Xmas (she must have been trying to tell me something, crystal collagen gold powder eye mask) so I'll see if they make any difference. Not going to reverse all the damage but definitely looking at bit 'rosier' shall I say

How many days is everyone on now?

PantsToThis · 09/08/2020 11:03

Morning everyone, hope you're all doing well.
It's 11 am and I'm already wrestling with a craving. Not to drink now but this evening. My DH is away and I'm thinking, well he will never know. How stupid, I do not want to do it! I would be an idiot to drink given my liver results, but the little voice is there....

OrchidJewel · 09/08/2020 12:31

@pantstothis would you believe my DH has literally just left with 2 of my kids to go away till Friday. I'm feeling a bit of the same, I'm worried. But I AM NOT going too. Download one of the books. My mother has invited me and the 2 other boys over for dinner tonight. If I eat a big meal and it's pasttrigger time at 6 I'm fine (ish) I won't get back till 8.30 ish and I'm reading Craig Beck this afternoon at playground.

We can stay off it. Keep posting

OrchidJewel · 09/08/2020 12:32

@OrchidJewel we can do this! @Ynwa1234 thanks!
I'm going to be ok. Eaten loads and now having a Becks Blue. I do not want to drink, so I'm not going to - there!
And yes to the teeth brushing.

noel66 · 09/08/2020 21:52

Day 7 nearly finished for me. I'm feeling pretty good. Little bit of anxiety but much better. The this naked mind book is really helping me. Feel I've been able to communicate more clearly with my husband without becoming emotional. Sleep definitely improving. Hope everyone else is doing ok.

OrchidJewel · 10/08/2020 07:53

Thanks @pantstothis I logged in leaving my mother's and your message stopped me doing anything stupid. I did a jig this morning. 21 days. It very nearly wasn't. That voice!!! Your DH is away, he will never know (which of course he would and so would i). I knew I'd struggle so I bought some throw away breathalysers and told him I will do one on the phone anytime. Going off he seemed confident in me.

Fantastic @noel66. One week, it was unheard of in my case. Such a massive feeling. 14 days is up for you now.

Painter men coming at 8 to do my downstairs which resembles a child's art gallery (very very contemporary art) Smile. At least I won't set their turps on fire

We shall keep going hey
