It got worse over lockdown.i have had day 1 before and failed but this time I am starting off prepared. I have books to read. I have joined Mumsnet for support and have told my family and friends.

Youngest DD not you grief

OrchidJewel · 12/10/2020 07:26

Oh no mummyof4, she has to stay at home. That's just a bloody nightmare

Ymna my pillow is as flat as a sanitary towel. DH gets all these fancy orthopedic ones which he swears by. Hope you get it sorted

JorisBonson · 12/10/2020 07:52

Morning all

@OrchidJewel yes I am really lucky, DH is fabulous. He was actually quite pissed when he got in himself last night 😂- very rare for him! - so I haven't had a major chat with him but will do tonight. I know he'd support me in anything I do.

@Ynwa12345 baby steps!

hazelnutmochi · 12/10/2020 13:24

I take it you've tried New Look and Asos @Ynwa12345, they both do wide fit.

I've taken Ashaghwanda before @OrchidJewel, brilliant stuff. I'm still on ADs (but down to half my dose since quitting booze) when I get off them might start taking them again. I take a vitamin B complex and an omega 3 fish oil and a decent multi vitamin. I can't remember where I read that these were all good if you've stopped drinking.

How are you feeling today @JorisBonson? Good that you have a supportive DH. I second reading (or listening to) alcohol lied to me. My favourite is love youself sober and the ladies who wrote it have a podcast which I listen to a lot. I wrote myself a letter on day 2 when I was still feeling horrendous, to read if I need reminding how awful I felt and how much I want to be sober.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. I felt a bit cold, pmt and like I was coming down with something this weekend. Would ordinarily have self medicated with (loads of) red wine but I had a boiling hot bath, loads of hot drinks, soup and hot water bottle and feel loads better today.

JorisBonson · 12/10/2020 13:54

@Ynwa12345 I second New Look for wide feet! Simply Be too.

Feeling good today @hazelnutmochi. Been out this morning and making DH a nice dinner to say sorry for Saturday night so that's kept me busy. Got a grown up bottle of pop to drink with dinner. I will have a listen to that podcast for sure, thank you.

Winecheesesleep · 12/10/2020 19:21

Hello everyone, please can I join you? I did dry January and found it fine but I'm feeling uncomfortable with how much I've been drinking during lockdown and each time I try to cut back it doesn't last. I don't think I'm drinking crazy amounts but I feel like it has control over me these days and I'm also finding it hard to lose weight.

So I want to stop drinking until the end of November when there's a big family birthday. And then who knows! It's day 1 proper today and feeling good.

Reading through this thread has been very inspiring Brew

JorisBonson · 12/10/2020 20:00

Welcome @Winecheesesleep! And good luck.

I've kept myself very busy today but definitely a bit twitchy tonight. I feel a bit shivery too, which I actually hope is due to no booze and not covid!

OrchidJewel · 13/10/2020 08:21

Morning everyone and welcome @Winecheesesleep, you wont know yourselfoff the booze. You just feel shite in general on it. That bloody bad voice you have goes on for about 25 days, I havent heard my bad voice a lot since then only my good voice.. Its deadly

Fair play to you @jorisbonson. I had awful bloody symptoms coming off it, kept thinking I had brain damage :( probably do.

@hazelnutmochi I think those vits were from craig becks book. I'm on a load of them. I'm also slowly trying to get off the ads and will try that asha what's it called stuff.

@ymna1234 lots of wide trotters here too sadly. Could never wear heels. I just live in wide trotter runners. At least we no longer have to glam up in work

Way behind as I went mental on amazon prime this morning. Bought a squllion books and xmas pressies.

Hows everyone else today?

JorisBonson · 13/10/2020 09:42

@OrchidJewel you've just reminded me it's prime day! I'll get Christmas shopping later.

Bad night's sleep last night, very vivid dreams and woke up very sweaty. I haven't had a drink since Saturday night and that's almost unheard of so I'm sure it's to be expected.

JorisBonson · 13/10/2020 09:44

I'm also waiting for a referral letter that isn't helping my mind - had back / shoulder / lung pain and a bit big a cough on and off for about 6 months. Clear chest x-ray. Went back last week for a second opinion and the GP found a lump in my breast so my little non - stunned brain is thinking the worst. I'm SURE it will be fine.

Winecheesesleep · 13/10/2020 10:55

@JorisBonson I'm sure it will be fine too, I think something like 90% of lumps turn out to be benign. Sending you a virtual hand hold though Flowers and I hope they get to the bottom of it all.

hazelnutmochi · 13/10/2020 11:05

Hi and welcome @Winecheesesleep, same here with drinking too much during lockdown. I put on 2 stone and would be much more if I was still drinking. I've only lost a kg so far but I'm eating loads.

That sounds like a lot to deal with @JorisBonson hopefully you don't have to wait long. I had a breast lump last year which was fine. I had to be seen within 2 weeks, are they still doing that? I hope so.

I realised today it was 50 days for me yesterday! Which means its day 50 for you today @writingsonthewall - go us! Half way to 100.
I've had a bit of a shift, was a bit fed up yesterday and my brain went to a sober treat automatically rather than wine! Such a small thing but massive in terms of putting the wine behind me.

Did you watch MAFS @OrchidJewel? me and DH binged it at the weekend! And we watched the first 2 episodes of life last night which was very good.

Ynwa12345 · 14/10/2020 04:54

Hi all hope everyone is OK. Day 60 here. Just checking in! X

Rupertpenrysmistress · 14/10/2020 06:22

Morning all. Hope everyone still doing ok. Just off to work so will check in later. Have a good day.

OrchidJewel · 14/10/2020 06:35

Morning everyone

Ah @JorisBonson that's all you need. I hope you get your pain sorted. I'm sure your up the walls, of course you would think the worst. Everything crossed

Congratulations hazel and writing on 50 days and ymna on 60. It's a great moment when you reach for something else and not the booze without even realising it. I will be out with my banners on day 100.

I havent seen the 2nd episode of MAFs as there was just far too many people up, so annoying. I had one of these days yesterday, this cheered me up on the "FUCK OFF' thread vm.tiktok.com/ZS9gRQfq/

writingsonthewall · 14/10/2020 19:50

Yo gang. How are you all?
I've been shit at posting this week. I've had a bastard of a week at work and it's still 2 fecking days til the weekend. Didn't drink though yay me. And yes @hazelnutmochi was 50 days yesterday. 50 fucking days!!!! How have we done it. Can we do another 50??

Welcome @Winecheesesleep hope your first days are going ok. Hang in there if not, it gets easier (I think)

Hey @Rupertpenrysmistress how is work? Got any covid updates for us? Hope you're ok x

@OrchidJewel I need to get myself into MAFS. I finished LI USA, it was fairly shit so you didn't miss much.

@Ynwa12345 well done on your 60 days you legend

Try not to worry about your lump @JorisBonson it's most likely to be nothing. Easier said than done I know but hopefully they'll see you soon.

@mummyof4kids hope you've managed to stay off the booze this week

All ok here anyway apart from shit work and fed up to back teeth of corona. Seriously if they lock me down again I'm gonna be livid. I want to go on holiday fgs.

Winecheesesleep · 15/10/2020 09:35

Thanks everyone for welcoming me to the thread! I hope everyone is doing OK today. I'm feeling really good, I actually think my skin looks clearer already?

I keep trying to work out what I should be aiming for long term but trying to put those thoughts out of my mind and concentrate on now. It feels more manageable that way!

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 10:50

How's everyone doing today?

Haven't drunk since Saturday night now. Some lovely friends sent us a big case of craft beer as a wedding present 😂 luckily I don't like the look of them so DH is happy.

New lockdown restrictions announced today have already made me feel itchy. DH is just about to go on a new shift pattern so will be away a lot of weekends and nights, I'm already wondering what I'll do stuck in the house on my own without a drink.

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 10:51

And thanks for everyone's thoughts about hospital, in at 10am on Saturday. It'll be fiiiiiine.

hazelnutmochi · 15/10/2020 13:57

Ah, that's good that you have an appointment Joris. Well done on 4 days! Did you get married recently?
Oh goodness, same here with new restrictions, I am in Essex and we are going in to tier two.
Have you got any good box sets to get stuck into? I journal, read, have a long hot bath with a podcast, Zoom with a friend. Bit geeky but I love a jigsaw puzzle and have ordered a couple of new ones of Ebay so plan to start one of those.

We can definitely do another 50 days Writing!

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 15:12

I'm looking at knitting kits! 😂😂 and will gee some friends up for outdoor stuff, weather permitting.

Yes, we got married 2 weeks ago, ran away just the 2 of us. So my little display at the weekend wasn't the best start to married life!

writingsonthewall · 15/10/2020 20:54

@Winecheesesleep you're def right to take one day at a time. Don't worry about the future for now. Just get to 30 days or 90 days and take it from there.

@JorisBonson Congratulations on your recent wedding 🎉 good luck for Saturday. are you in a lockdown area? I'm in the south east so cases are pretty low for now but we'll see. I'm wfh so I guess a stricter lockdown would just impact my yoga and the occasional night out but that's it.

Didn't realise Essex was going into tier 2 @hazelnutmochi I can't keep up. Try the 'over the influence' podcast, it's really good. And I've just finished "Life" on bbc and really enjoyed it. Yeah I reckon we can do another 50 Smile

All ok here, shattered tonight. House is such a tip. Need to clean but sooo busy at work and kids etc. Onwards and upwards

JorisBonson · 15/10/2020 21:34

@writingsonthewall yes in London. Just going to take it one day at a time.

Hope everyone has had a great day

Ynwa12345 · 16/10/2020 05:17

Morning all!
Hope everyone is doing well.
Day 62 here! Yesterday H poured wine and then prosecco I was like celebrating something are we??? Really got to me but ended up having 10 cigs instead but really wanted to try dome he's got the nerve to say you can smell it (coz the red wine was going off) I was like no idiot!!! But he understands I will not /can't moderate and it's always upsetting when I think of the future but trying to be positive!
@JorisBonson hope all well and congrats!
@ all the new people sorry I can't go back to read each but recommend alcohol lied to me and the naked mind really good books!
The most AF I had done is 10 months so hoping to aim for this to start.
@Newernewist how are you?
Thanks for all tips on platypus feet websites lol I feel ill constantly be returning shoes online need to try them on!
I'm also south east so can't see family indoors... Had lots of plans too for half term but I've already spoken to a few who say they wont Be following the rules...
@writingsonthewall cleaning can wait at least its Friday so no work tomo yay. As far as I kmoiw I'm still working sunday lol

Sasta · 16/10/2020 07:29

Morning everyone Orchidjewel here, I had to name change as kids got my phone and started talking about orchids. DH was a bit ???

Day 88 here. Clap clap. And fair play to all your days. @Newernewist serious congrats on 46 days. Is the sleep any better?

Congratulations jorisbonson. That must have been exciting. I would have loved an excuse to fuck off quietly at the time. Keep us posted on Saturday you will indeed be fine.

Hazel have you ever tried a wasgij jigsaw? They are gas. I got a thousand piece one last xmas and it was too much so this years xmas one will be 500. I buy it for the family and then end up nearly murdering them if they do some that I had gathered up. I need to grow up :)

Platypus Grin ymna how you doing?

It's so hard initially getting our heads around a life time of no alcohol. I do find promising myself I'll have one at x time far better than forcing the thought. My new user name means happy in Irish which is what I am now (to a degree) I find sometimes my shame of drinking raises its ugly head but DH seems to be a lot more relaxed with me and we are getting there. I do dread xmas though and the thoughts of long days but sure we will get through it.

Have a great day. Friday but the goo wont last
