Hi all. This is my day 1. I have joined some other threads for support but thought I would start a new one for anyone just starting out on this journey. I have a drink problem. It got worse over lockdown.i have had day 1 before and failed but this time I am starting off prepared. I have books to read. I have joined Mumsnet for support and have told my family and friends.

Hi everyone.
Welcome Mummyof4. Well done on cutting back. You could try an AF weekend, join us this weekend Smile i have found it so much easier giving up for good than moderating. Moderating takes up so much head space and emotional energy. I still look forward to the weekend and get in lovely AF drinks and treats. It is so nice waking up on a Saturday and Sunday hangover free, I love it.

I went to a dance class last night! Used to dance when I was younger. I've been meaning to go for ages but on a Tuesday I'd often still be feeling the effects of the weekend to some extent. Or wanting to have a few drinks as I didn't have to drive early on a Wednesday. I was nervous but it was so much fun!

Oh and I'm 5'10" Writing. Husband is 6'4" so I think dd will be tall!

joysmoy · 07/10/2020 11:42

Hi guys I'm still around although I must confess I've started having a bottle of wine at the weekend Blushif I can stick at that I will be ok with it. Hi mummyof4 welcome to the thread. You are all doing amazing!

Rupertpenrysmistress · 07/10/2020 22:39

Hi joy lovely to hear from you. How are things going? Hope things are feeling a little easier.

joysmoy · 08/10/2020 10:54

Things are getting easier thank goodness thank you Rupert Smilehusband is being lovely and is very very sorry so hopefully we can work through this. How are you? You are all doing so well Smile

writingsonthewall · 08/10/2020 12:20

Hi @mummyof4kids of course you can join, all welcome in here to keep us on the straight and narrow. I have spent years trying to stick to Fridays and Saturdays – literally, and it’s just so bloody hard and makes the rest of the week fairly miserable (for me anyway), and then inevitably slips to Sunday as well, then Thursday, then Wednesday etc. This is the first time I have tried stopping altogether, for more than about a week, and currently on day 45. I’ve had my moments, but overall I think it might be easier than trying to moderate. I said initially I’d do 90 days so I’m halfway there (woohoo) so we’ll see what happens after that. I’m not at the stage of making any promises as yet. Anyway, you’re obvs welcome to stick with us whatever approach you’re taking but I would consider having a prolonged break before you try and re-set habits maybe. Then again, with 4 kids I understand why you wouldn’t want to!  It is SO scary the thought of cutting it out but less scary when you get going. Do you listen to audiobooks? If so I recommend This Naked Mind by Annie Grace – it does make you think. Or you can just read it obvs.

URgh my mother is already banging on about Christmas Day @ Ynwa1234 she is so bored now she’s retired she just flaps around trying to organise shit. She wants to ignore the rules and have us round for the day, I’m on the blasé end of the rules but a Christmas at home just us does sound quite pleasant. Would feel bad leaving the 2 of them alone though. Think these threads do stay forever sadly but is your sil really likely to come across it? Does she drink heavily!?

@OrchidJewel, I googled the message and apparently it’s an Apple update thingy that it just does to say it’s working and it’s meaningless so that’s fine. The only difference about Friday here was that it was the green light to drink 15 drinks instead of my usual 5 or 10 hahaha.

@hazelnutmochi – what dance class did you go to? I love dancing, would love to join one but a bit shy. Don’t wanna go on my own. DD will definitely be tall! My eldest DD seems to have stopped growing and she is around 5’6” I think so she is livid she didn’t overtake me!

Hi @joysmoy Don’t need to confess anything, you gotta do what works for you. Don’t you just spend the entire week wishing it was the weekend though lol. Hope things at home are going ok.

@Rupertpenrysmistress hello chick. How are you doing? Work not too crazy I hope.

mummyof4kids · 08/10/2020 17:37

@writingsonthewall thank you for that 😊
Yesterday was bloody hard, my daughter was admitted to hospital with severe pain, turns out she has a kidney infection, I wasn't allowed to stay with her as she's almost 17. Normally that would give me the excuse to go and buy wine and I thought about it but didn't so I'm pleased about that 😊

hazelnutmochi · 08/10/2020 18:00

Glad to hear things are getting easier @joysmoy.

That must have been so hard with your daughter @mummyof4kids, I hope she is on the mend and home very soon. Massive well done on not drinking.

It was a tap class @writingsonthewall. I've done the odd class over the years but been 20 years since I did it properly, good old muscle memory! Absolutely love tap. Is there anyone who would go to a class with you?

OrchidJewel · 09/10/2020 07:08

Morning everyone

Oh mummyof4 a kidney infection is just awful. Hope she is ok

Hazel you absolute legend a tap class, I love love love dancing. When I first stopped drinking I started basic ballet again, plies etc, I could NEVER tap dance, my feet just didnt go that way. I did a million shows when I was younger and was always at the back for tap. Envy!

Myself and DD started couch to 5k on wed, just on a whim, poor child was lying on her bed one minute and running round the green the next. I'm not sure if she will stick with it (boring) but I will.

Good on you joysmoy, glad you are back somewhat on track

Friday! What can we say. The goo starts about 3, it will be the usual

Hello everyone else, had a lie on by mistake so better get cracking

hazelnutmochi · 09/10/2020 10:05

Ooh, I did ballet when I was younger Orchid. I much preferred tap though. Same with all the shows, such a happy part of growing up. I loved it! I did local panto too which was so much fun. We took dd to a panto last Christmas, I'm hoping she'll be into dancing.
Couch to 5k sounds good! And lovely doing it with your dd.
I've got my PT session this morning, much needed but just want to lie on the sofa. The one thing I didn't like about the class the other day was that we were facing a wall with floor to ceiling mirrors. I used to always be naturally slim so really struggling with these extra 2 stone I've acquired. But also can't stop eating 🤦‍♀️

Argh, Friday....have cans of seedlip in the fridge for later, plus some of my fav chocolate and fish pie on the menu for dinner.

OrchidJewel · 10/10/2020 06:06

Morning everyone, did you all get through Friday night? Day 82 here. My 7 year old has Cubs now on a Friday night which is just a terrific distraction for me. Collected him at 8. It was 9.15 by the time I sat down with my glass of milk and dinner.

It's funny my sleep is so much better I read and fall asleep but when I pick my kindle up again I've no recollection of the last bit I read :) that would have happened obviously when I was lamped off my face.

Baking this weekend is a massive jaffa cake, Tesco have a good receipe.

Anyway, dont know what to do with the kids today. Have a great sat

writingsonthewall · 10/10/2020 07:06

Morning all. Oh no @mummyof4kids that sounds awful about the kidney infection. Hope she's well on the mend now. Did you drink last night?

@hazelnutmochi I did ballet when I was younger but never tap. I quite fancy like of street dance type class or something. I wonder if there's any adult ones near here. Not sure if there's anyone that would go with me. Maybe.. will have a think

@OrchidJewel well done on your C25k great work. I did it 12 years ago and have run ever since. Running is hard work but it also great headspace to think or listen fo music or podcasts. I'm loving the "over the influence" podcasts, they're alcohol free living ones and really easy listening.

Had the Friday goo last night. When will it go away!!?? I had some af Prosecco And ice cream instead.

Day 47 for me today @OrchidJewel they are racking up now
I've got running club this morning. 7yo has football. Will probably do Starbucks with 12yo for some homework. Want to get 15yo a chest of drawers for her room as it's full of mess and she hasn't enough storage.

I've booked a pumpkin picking day next weekend for something to do.

Hope I'm not speaking too soon but my sleep has been good the last couple of nights. 💤 maybe have turned a corner.

Have a fab day all. @Ynwa12345 hope you're ok xx

mummyof4kids · 10/10/2020 07:12

Morning
@writingsonthewall thank you she's on the mend now.
I had a glass of wine last night, I didn't fancy another and to be honest I didn't really enjoy it so had some Pepsi instead.
Hope you all have a great day

OrchidJewel · 10/10/2020 07:32

That's a jam packed day @writingonthewall I got fabulous playroom storage on amazon if you dont find a chest of drawers. I was amazed at quality, got 2 of them, they look great Homfa Children Storage Cabinet Toy Organiser Storage Bench for Kid Wooden Chest of 3 Drawers with Wheels 102x33x61.5cm

Good for you mummyof4 picking up the Peps, glad your dd is on the mend

31st october is massive over here for trick or treating, cancelled this year so have to think of something else. We dont do your night in Nov?

Ynwa12345 · 10/10/2020 08:00

Morning all. Hope everyone is OK! Day 56 here. Had the good yesterday so had AF beer. Didn't sleep well at all last night possibly too much food but little one tossing and turning. Eldest has footie and I'm going to go for a bike ride (me walking /running) with little one. He's still on stabilisers so bit easier. Then need to make lunch etc etc the high life x hope everyone is good.

Ynwa12345 · 10/10/2020 08:00

Goo even

writingsonthewall · 10/10/2020 20:23

Well done on the Pepsi @mummyof4kids I'm pretty sure I wouldn't only want 1 which is annoying. Are you gonna have another tonight?

Will have a look at that storage @OrchidJewel I managed to get her a Chest of drawers from a local lady who does Upcycled stuff but you can never have enough storage!

Yeah shame Halloween is canned. 7yo is livid. We usually go to a pub on 5th nov for bonfire and fireworks but it's usually packed so who knows if it'll be on.

Did you have a nice day @Ynwa12345 did your h go for his usual 4 hour exercise ? Hope the bike ride/jog was nice. It rained here this avo but supposed to be nice tomorrow

JorisBonson · 11/10/2020 12:41

Day 1 for me. Hi everyone

writingsonthewall · 11/10/2020 16:31

Hi @JorisBonson Well done on your day 1. What's the plan? Stopping for a period of time or for good?

JorisBonson · 11/10/2020 16:40

I want to say permanently but I think I need to be realistic. Each day at a time and all that.

It's my birthday at the end of November so I'm firstly aiming to be completely sober until then.

hazelnutmochi · 11/10/2020 17:19

Hi Joris, welcome to the thread. I saw the thread you started and my heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself the next few days, lots of tlc. One day, even one minute at a time if it gets really hard.

JorisBonson · 11/10/2020 18:48

Thank you @hazelnutmochi x

Ynwa12345 · 12/10/2020 06:05

Hi everyone.
Have not been sleeping great recently.
@Rupertpenrysmistress how are you?
@OrchidJewel mine don't know halloween is cancelled yet! There's so much in the shops for Halloween I do wonder wtf is going on. H said we can socially distance doing it???
@writingsonthewall no he didn't go on his epic bike journey and blamed me for working which is why he couldn't do it!
He's off very early today.. Now in fact so he can take the scenic route in.. Lovely lol
Hope everyone has a great day!

OrchidJewel · 12/10/2020 06:43

Morning everyone

Wow @ymna1234 56 days racked up pretty quick. It's great to get out with the kids. I have to make a massive effort especially with one on stabilizers and drama of bumps on paths lol. Your still not sleeping? Was talking to pals last night about all that.

Hiya @jorisbonson gas name. Fair play to you on day 1. I also saw your thread. Aiming for your birthday is a great idea to not think this is it for life. You seem to have a very supportive DH? I sought major help from my GP, if you feel you need it. Craig becks book was a game changer for me. Tests are good too, they frightened the bejesus out of me waiting for the results. I know a lot here would absolutely agree they NEVER thought they would be sober for even a month and look at us now. You will not regret it. You just need your little way to stay off it (in your head) which you will find.

So talking to a few v v healthy living pals last night those that can put the lid back on the bottle, cap back on the gin and abstain during the week. One asking for vitamins for a boost and mood.

Ashaghwanda was one 3 swore by (I'm in anti ds so cant take those)

Revive Active sachets (very expensive €60, not sure what that is in pound) I'm getting this today with my near 100 day sober money.

Vitaminb6 and saffron (not sure what these are about)

Magnesium powder! 2 spoons of this dissolved before bed and a deep sleep with bestow you! They even have a mag body lotion which is brilliant and take Epsom salt baths

I'll fly over to McCabes later and get the revive anyway. My sleep is brilliant, I do wake up mad early but I must have had enough.

I will let you know in a months time if I'm running around like Zola Budd.

Hows everyone else?

Ynwa12345 · 12/10/2020 07:01

Hahah @OrchidJewel brilliant! Your posts always make me laugh out loud!
All those vitamins sound amazing my mum was talking about magnesium generally and my brother uses it the powder form so when Holland and Barratt have some sort of sale (although I've noticed the powder is never on sale) I will purchase!
Revive sounds good too and your friends asking for the vitamins is amazing??!! I luckily have friends who don't drink as much as I did so it's good and they know all about my 'issues'.
Love the name @JorisBonson brilliant and I hope you are doing well. We all started on a day 1 you can do it!
@mummyof4kids how are you doing How's your daughter? Hope OK.
The sleep I thjnk is to do with my pillow I have had a real neck ache past few days but then again my ankle and knee are busted too I wear really crap flats to work and run around a lot too but I can't wear black trainers and I have really wide big feet... I've tried everywhere including Clarks. Hope u all have a great day. X

mummyof4kids · 12/10/2020 07:07

@Ynwa12345 morning. I had a couple of glasses last night but I won't be having any tonight. I'm taking DP to work and picking him up this week and he finishes at 10pm so definitely won't be on the wine.
DD is doing ok thanks, she's still in pain though which is a bit concerning, she's due to finish her antibiotics today, you grief DD who's 4 is now off school, I received a text saying a member of staff had tested positive and her year group all have to stay off.
So bloody sick of Covid
