It got worse over lockdown.i have had day 1 before and failed but this time I am starting off prepared. I have books to read. I have joined Mumsnet for support and have told my family and friends.

Hello, so exciting to read about all the sober days. Day 42 here today Smile

That sounds really tough with your husband drinking @Ynwa1234 I would really struggle. You're doing so well.

Your flan sounds amazing @OrchidJewel and the salted caramel sponges. I'm obsessed with salted caramel. Do you watch bake off? I love it and the Jo Brand extra slice programme.

We have had such a lazy weekend. Weather is awful and dd keeps either waking in the middle of the night or ridiculously early.

hazelnutmochi · 04/10/2020 20:11

I'm just watching first dates, everyone's knocking back the drinks and this guy just came on and ordered a cup of tea Grin

There was an advert for a new series of married at first sight starting this Tuesday!

OrchidJewel · 05/10/2020 06:30

Morning. Wow ymna day 50, that really clocked up quickly, I have my 4 booked in for flu jab on Saturday (nasal? How does that work) I'm already feeling sorry for who ever is doing it.

42 days hazel, that's deadly.. Have you a date aim? Something nice for yourself to look forward too? 100 days is my next aim.

LOVE the bake off, I have 4 bakers and my sisters have another 4 each. Who ever wins gets a tenner from the others. We really live on the edge I tell you. Keep forgetting about extra slice. Is married at first sight season 6? I started it online, on episode 9, there are some completely and utterly bonkers people on this one. Think I might hold off and watch it live.

Miserable here today. It will be all eyes on the news, our CMO Holohan is back and talk of level 5 again but keeping schools open. So no change for us really. Except not seeing my folks, shops and 5k only

After seeing writings lovely talons I'm on a mission to look after mine. I'm off today to get some 'let's get those scabby nails back in order' equipment.

Hope everyone is doing good.

hazelnutmochi · 05/10/2020 09:57

My dd had the nasal flu vaccination last year Orchid, just a little spray up the nose. Think we were in the nurses room for all of 30 seconds and dd was fine.
I love your bake off game. Do you choose your 4 or allocate randomly? I might do this with DH. Are all your bakers still in?
The ad I saw was for a new British married at first sight, think its the Australian one that's on line. And think there's a new USA one, confusing!
My first aim was 30 days as I'd attempted so many dry months. Now I think its getting past the longest I've done AF before (outside of pregnancy) which I think is around 105 days. Have you got an aim? I'm really looking forward to my first soberversary but a way to go for that!
Hope everyone is doing OK.

OrchidJewel · 05/10/2020 11:01

Thanks hazel nasal sounds great. Child with SN might be better off with jab, easier to hold his arm than face and by the time it actually registers he has a packet of fruit pastilles shoved in his hand lol

Re bake off, as the bakers came out in first episode I got the first one (being the eldest and all) the 2nd sister got the next one and so in. Lorilea was the first out and also the first gone. Sister 2s Mac booted last week lol. It can be very very stressful Grin

I will watch ANY MAFS

I have no choice but to never drink again but I dont tell myself that. Rupert put it very well in another post. Pretend you'll have one at xmas. But I know I cant. At the moment I'm aiming 100 days and then I'll buy myself something. I was just reading a few other threads there about partners who are alcoholics and what an upset it is and advice is to leave them and they can only change if they want too etc. Then other threads on how can you cut back.

Nah I'm done with alcohol I'm so so much happier without it, life is much better, enjoying my kids, no sneaking around, wondering when is a resonant le time to open a bottle, praying I wont finish it. Deck that malarkey lol

writingsonthewall · 05/10/2020 13:51

Well done on your days everyone!! Over 70 for Rupert and Orchid, and 50+ for Ywna. So impressed with all of us. And 40+ for us hazel. Given I had never done 20 before I can't quite believe it.

@@OrchidJewel Glad your h is making improvements. Hope he sticks to his word and goes to the doc. That life on bbc looks good, are you enjoying it? Glad I have inspired your nails!

Hope your weekend off work was good @Rupertpenrysmistress

My H wishes I was a baker too, I'm totally useless in the kitchen. Probs in the bedroom too hahaha. Poor old H. I love cake but have started yet another diet today, I'm gonna try and cut out the crap, choc, cakes, biscuits, crisps etc. My meals are already pretty healthy so it's the crap for sure. I can't even blame the booze anymore.

I'll google the arm exercises later @Ynwa1234. can you tell I;m putting it off?! I'm so shit at anything like that, i'd far rather go for a run or a walk. Hope work was ok and no difficult customers yesterday.

My sleep is fucked as well @hazelnutmochi Maybe it's the stage we are at and solid sleep will soon be ours... My aim when I started was 90 days. Then I sort of said 100, so not really sure. It's either 90 or 100. I'm not sure after that. I suspect I can't really moderate. I think if I started drinking again now I would very quickly be back to 5 days a week and struggling to have a couple of days off, and plagued by hangovers again. But Im still not at the stage where I want to say forever.

My girls love bake off but I never really watched it. I should start watching it with them.

My H won't let me watch crap like MAFS which is v annoying. I might start putting it on in the background when i'm wfh but I don't watch properly so struggle to follow.

hazelnutmochi · 05/10/2020 16:31

Its forever here, I've not been able to moderate for long when I've gone back to it after a break. And my idea of moderation isn't really moderation. I know I can't control my intake. It makes me feel a bit sad when I think of not sharing wine with friends ever again but my relationship with alcohol was toxic. And I'm not doing the early days of getting sober again.
I've told a few friends I've given up and response has been positive. I've decided that I'm going to buy myself a sewing machine for Christmas, will be 4 months sober on Christmas eve.

Sounds like a good system re bake off Orchid!

I think its 6 weeks for improved sleep Writing so any day now...ive had trouble getting to sleep then sleeping really deeply and struggling to get up. I'm the same with food, healthy meals but I could snack for England!

OrchidJewel · 06/10/2020 06:09

Morning everyone

Ooooohhh hazel a sewing machine. Thats fantastic, you must be crafty? What will you be tinkering around with/plan on making? That's a skill/hobbies I envy.

Writing what handy healthy meals do you swear by? A fav here is mary berry's butternut squash lasagne. I need more inspiration

I will definitely miss sharing a few drinks (barrel) with my pals. I haven't had to tell anyone yet. My sisters know and it's sad as it seems to be the elephant in the room. No more what's apps from them about a craft beer or hangovers etc I have been very open and jokey about it. Like you hazel I envy their moderation.

Writing you can get all seasons of MAFS Aus on your phone. SHvideos. I also cant concentrate whilst working but I do take an hour with headphones sometimes. But I do prefer reading. My next kindle book is Dr Marie Cassidys one. She moved from Scotland in 1998 to be our State pathologist. She has had a ton of high profile murders. Very macbre

A level 5 lockdown was rejected here, everyone is relieved.

How are you ymna? Still living your mad life? Lol..

Have a good day

Ah no ymna, we have our low days. Hope you get some time to yourself. Jesus rats. It really dies never end in your house lol. Honestly a lot of mens my has seem to go to pot. I have envy that yours went to the office. It does them no good being g at home.

Fair play you stayed strong not grabbing a drink. It must be tough when it's in the house though

hazelnutmochi · 06/10/2020 10:30

Well my sewing skills amount to a taster sewing class years ago so I've got a long way to go but you've got to aim high Grin
I would love to make my own clothes. I'm quite tall so find it hard to find dresses that fit well that I like. Would be lovely to make things for my daughter too.

Sorry to hear about the rats Ynwa and grumpy husband and feeling low. Like Orchid says, hope you can get some time to yourself. Sending a virtual Brew and Cake
I've got a lighthearted read on the go at the moment, this time next year, enjoying it. and one of my favourites who wrote the shopaholic series has a new one out later this month. I read the 7 deaths of Evelyn hardcastle earlier this year, I found it hard to follow but very good. I preordered his new one at the time and it arrived on my kindle last week which was a nice surprise as I'd forgotten about it.

Newernewist · 06/10/2020 17:45

Hi everyone, just checking in, I'm still sober, 46 days now.
So glad to see everyone is doing ok
I need to watch all the crap I'm eating, but at least I've not touched a drink x

writingsonthewall · 06/10/2020 20:37

Ok I can hold out for 6 weeks for improved sleep @hazelnutmochi Actually god I suppose we are 6 weeks now aren't we. Jesus that is ages. Yay us. I wake up too, stay awake worrying about work or money or whatever else for ages, then go back to sleep and can't get up. Driving me crazy.

Your sewing machine sounds exciting. I am not crafty at all. Hmm starting to wonder what I can do. I'm shit at cooking, shit at baking, shit at crafts. I'm basically not arty at all. It's all about the numbers. How tall are you anyway out of pure nosiness? I'm 5'8".

@OrchidJewel I am def wrong person to give advice on meals. My meals are healthy but not really cooking. They involve putting some fish or lean meat in the oven and then serving with a big pile of veg or salad. Sometimes replace the meat or fish with an omelette to be really crazy. The only meals I cook really are chilli (have easy recipe and it's healthy as long as you use lean mince), and curry (do have a good healthy recipe if anyone wants).

Glad level 5 lockdown was rejected. Thank god for that. I went into the office today as the walls were closing in on me.

I watched the first 'Life' last night. Was v good. Second one tonight. Dr mary Cassidys book sounds good. Let us know what it's like. I'm currently reading The Bigamist. It's a true story, not my usual genre but quite good. Have finished Glorious rock bottom on audible and now gonna start 'A bit of a stretch' which is diaries of a prisoner.

@Ynwa1234 Just casually getting your rat exterminator in 😂 you crack me up. Did he do the job? When did you see a rat?!?!

Sorry you've been feeling down chick. I have a bit as well. The next 3 months are my busiest time at work so I'm apprehensive about that, the whole covid shit is dull and boring and I want to go on a holiday. That's good that you've found some work online though. Is it interesting? Has your h cheered up a bit? Shit when they're grumpy isn't it. Keep your chin up. We've always got food even if we haven't got booze anymore!

My h got a notification on his nhs app this morning saying he had a partial contact with a corona person but he didn't need to isolate. What's the bloody point of that? All very strange. He goes to the office every day, which on one hand is nice to have some peace but it's also isolating being here alone. Can't win!

Hey @Newernewist nice to see you. Glad you're hanging in there too. I'm so proud of all of us

mummyof4kids · 07/10/2020 07:00

Hi
I was on a similar thread a while back but it's gone quiet so I'd like to join this one if you don't mind.
I was drinking a bottle of wine or 4 cans of lager a night, on the other thread I managed to cut it down to weekends which is what I'm aiming for but I slipped back to my ways.
I'm currently on day 3 AF and have already noticed I'm sleeping much better, I love waking up and not having to check my phone or social media to make sure I hadn't posted something stupid.
I was sick of my dc seeing me with a glass of wine in my hand most nights so I've decided to cut it out and only drink on Friday or Saturday nights

Morning everyone

Hiya @mummyof4kids it really starts creeping up doesn't it. I definitely don't regret giving up the booze. You sound as busy as all of us with 4 kids. I also lay awake thinking about what my kids were thinking. My daughter now runs down to spar to get my tonic, she often says when she sees a drink 'is that wine' so I'm delighted to report to her nah. Would you just give up completely even for 30 days? Your lucky if you can moderate.

Writing what is that text all about? Seems pointless alright, partial contact lol

Congrays new @Newernewist 46 days, that's really clocking up. Hope the sleeping is going better.

Did you get rid of your rats @ymna1234? Inline work sounds ideal

@hazelnutmochi I admire anyway crafty, at least you have a lovely hobbies to keep you out of trouble. I'm looking for cushions and cant find any and thays the sort of thing if I wasmt it I could 'run up in the machine'

Hope your feeling better? @Rupertpenrysmistress

Right time to get the lumps up and head to work for mental health :)

mummyof4kids · 07/10/2020 07:23

@OrchidJewel I probably could give up for 39 days, I probably should do too but there's something about the weekend and wine that goes hand in hand, it sounds ridiculous doesn't it?
If I can't moderate it to weekends then my only other option is to cut it out totally, that's a scary thought at the moment, not sure why because the wine does nothing for me. It doesn't make my life better in any way, it takes more away from me than what it gives

mummyof4kids · 07/10/2020 07:24

Feral kids ymna lol. I've just loaded the machine yet again with pissy sheets. Cant wait to 'be an adult' at approx 9.15.

I get that mummyof4. We all feel the fridays especially (even though I was knocking it back every other day of the week so no idea what difference friday was)

mummyof4kids · 07/10/2020 08:21

@OrchidJewel yep every night was Friday for me too.
I'm lucky in that my partner hardly drinks, he may have one or two on a weekend but never drinks through the week. I'm only on day 3 but have found easier this time for some reason, I've already got more energy and don't have the fuzzy head.

OrchidJewel · 07/10/2020 08:23

Good stuff mummyof4. My DH hasnt drunk since I've stopped so I'm v grateful for that
