Welcome stillseperatedSmileyes orchid day 23 for me😁I feel quite relieved to get this far as it feels like it's getting a little bit easier now. Glad you got yourself a new bag orchid! Well done ynwa on your day 9! Well done newest on day 5!

noel66 · 24/08/2020 09:37

Day 22 not 23🤦‍♀️

Rupertpenrysmistress · 24/08/2020 10:00

Morning everyone Noel I think we are sober twins day 23 for me too! My DH asked me how I felt not drinking and to be honest I don't know, I don't feel anything it just is what it is. I think I have quit so many times before I feel like this is my last chance.

Orchid you are doing so well your stories crack me up, parenting really does make a good comedy, talking of which has anyone seen motherland? It's hilarious.

Ynwa I am in awe of you at 9 days, you have had so much to deal with and are still staying sober. How is the tooth?

New you must feel shattered however I have only just started sleeping properly this week so 3 weeks in. I was reading that without alcohol your body goes through 6 cycles when sleeping, add in alcohol and that reduces to 2! So it takes time, it will come and it is fantastic however I do have vivid dreams, quite unpleasant at times 🤔.

Welcome still I love that phrase you do find out who your real friends are and that is no bad thing.

I am just off into town with my dd for some retail therapy as I have the week of work!!!!

Have a great day everyone.

Stillseparatedat41 · 24/08/2020 11:53

Thanks for the warm welcome. Thanks @Rupertpenrysmistress I agree Smile

I’ve set my start date: September 1st. I’m so nervous and really hope I can do it.

You’re all very inspiring. What a great thread!

hazelnutmochi · 24/08/2020 16:22

Please can I join? My drinking has really got out of control. I don't ever want to feel as awful as I do today again. I ordered 6 bottles of wine which arrived on Thursday and they've all gone. I initially started doing the 30 day alcohol experiment, made it to day 13 and then day 15. Despite good intentions I've had awful cravings at that point. I need to accept that moderation isn't for me, there's no magical period of time off that will change that. Day 1 and I'm counting down the minutes until bed time.

Hi hazelnutmochi I can empathise with you as I am sure most of us can. It's really bloody hard this addiction is miserable. If I can do this you can. For me I have to stop I CANNOT moderate.

What are you doing during cravings? I have to say I did alot of walking at that time, listening to quit lit, I made sure I had plenty of af drinks and chocolate too. You can do this.

Newernewist · 24/08/2020 18:36

Hi everyone, sleep!!! Its killing me.
I'm day 6 now, but I feel like ive not slept for 6 days lol.
I'm ringing Dr in morning to try get something to help
I didn't want to, but I'm at breaking point now.
I'm not getting to sleep until 5am on average.
Ive fallen asleep on sofa this afternoon, but I'll regret it later.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Newernewist · 24/08/2020 18:41

@Rupertpenrysmistress, I am the same, I cant moderate.
I have to stop, I need to stop, I want to stop but its not easy

Newernewist · 24/08/2020 18:45

And Hi to new posters!!
If I can do this, you can too.
If you struggle, don't beat yourself up.
I've tried and failed many times, all I can do is try my best this time.

noel66 · 24/08/2020 18:55

Welcome hazelnut Smilethanks ynwa!oh newest I'm sorry your still not sleeping . Calling the dr to see if they can help sounds like the best thing to do.

hazelnutmochi · 24/08/2020 20:50

Thank you for the welcome, I feel so much better for posting. Today has been a write off, dd has spent most of the day on the tablet or watching TV. Luckily dh finished work early to do dinner and bedtime.
I'm also trying to look at this positively Ynwa1234, gaining something rather than its a shame I can't drink.
Rupertpenrysmistress, I was having an AF beer (love the peroni one or bavaria wheat beer) if I got a craving when doing dds dinner and then I was coming upstairs to listen to sober podcasts rather than sit in front of the TV. I've been listening to the alcohol lied to me audio book this evening. I was just chatting to DH about what I can do differently this time to prevent ending up back here. Posting on here was one and making sure i don't have any wine in the house. Anything that would tempt me has gone down the sink. And I have a project to throw myself into, we have a spare room which has become a bit of a dumping ground. The plan is to turn it into an office/craft room for me so that will keep me busy.

maloney123 · 24/08/2020 21:22

Hey All
Can I join too? Today is my day 1. I don’t drink particularly heavily but I’m finding more and more that I can only manage Monday and Tuesday not drinking and then Wed - Sun I drink. My problems stemmed from an awful flight a few years ago where I had a lot of wine to cope with the severe turbulence. My brain then realised anxiety = have a drink and feel better. Now it’s crept up to basically just “have a drink” regardless of anxiety or not. I struggle a lot with anxiety and low mood and I know alcohol doesn’t help. Also both my parents were alcoholics and I don’t want to be like them. Lastly we’re trying for a baby and I’m afraid that me drinking is preventing us from concieving. I’m also really alarmed by how worried I am about going 9 months without a drink! That can’t be a good sign. So today is the day - I’m going to stop for good Smile

noel66 · 24/08/2020 21:29

Welcome maloney. Oh that sounds like my worst nightmare I'm terrified of flying!

OrchidJewel · 25/08/2020 07:00

Welcome @hazelnutmochi and @maloney123 oh Maloney what a motivation you have to stop drinking, funny thing is and I'm sure we can all agree that when your pregnant you do just stop, it's no longer just about you.

Hazel alcohol lied to me made the most impact (on me anyway) I crack open a tonic water every day at 6, it sour so seems to beat off cravings. The other girls have loads of lovely suggestions. I also have changed my diet and have dinner early.(just stuff I don't associate with wine). This makes me full and then I plan a cup of tea and 'something nice'.

Newer, I got sleeping tabs at first, along with the libruim. Well worth getting a few sleeping tabs just for the odd might. 7.5 didn't touch me though, I took 2 of those and then a few 10mgs whensleep beganto settle. I have.15 left and don't need them now.

Honestly the cravings DO ease up, yeh it's always kinda there but not as head consuming as first week or 3.

Congrats noel and rupert on day 23 and pants and ymna on your days. (Totally agree rupert, I don't know how I feel either but has to be done at this stage) hope you and DH are good Noel

Not long now stillseparated Smile

Ah ymna me ole shegosha. Yep God loves us trying, at least we are giving the family a laugh. House devil, street angel. I am always grateful they don't act up too much outside. I do know that 7or old boy is 3rd, middle child really is just craving attention. The others seem to have a different way of demanding. School tomorrow I CANNOT WAIT. I'll be doing a jig come 8.45. Funny, we were given different time slots, mine was originally 9.20am (fuck that, its half the day gone) so I used boy with SN as an excuse (his bus is unreliable) to get 8.15am. Now if you had asked me a year ago I would have been factoring in a hangover to my timings! And spending more time gargling and showering etc, making sure I was sober enough to drive. All these things give me such happiness now (and I have to push the guilt, shame and regret down) I AM changing for the better

Keep posting :)

OrchidJewel · 25/08/2020 07:07

My username back for some reason Smile

Totally off point but I'm watching 'Married at first sight Aus' very entertaining. Those 3 psychologists are so bloody irritating, the last season you could clearly see a future bully but no mention of that from the 3 stoogies. Anyway I'm glued to Davina and Dean. They are fruit cakes

Thanks orchid we are doing ok,not perfect but not terrible either. He actually didn't drink last night and says he's having a few days off this week!(he usually drinks pretty much every day) maybe he sees how well I'm doing and it's inspired him?! He actually drinks mores than I ever did. I'm doing ok. Cravings have basically gone, like you I just do myself a different drink from around six(usually elderflower) and it's becoming a new habit SmileI am however eating far to much chocolate!

noel66 · 25/08/2020 08:32

Well done ynwa you are doing amazing!

Rupertpenrysmistress · 25/08/2020 08:49

Morning all. I am also eating far to much chocolate, I thought about doing something about it but then I thought nah! I do love my chocolate although my dd hears me opening it and I have to share 😞.

DH wanted to pop into the pub yesterday it was sunny here so we sat outside, I did think oh one glass of wine outside would be lovely but had af cider instead. I looked at my DC and thought yes I have made the right decision. Can't believe how selfish I was.

Anyway lots on today and already had a row with DH both on leave this week. Ds back to school next week and DD week after.

noel66 · 25/08/2020 09:04

Well done Rupert! Oh sorry to hear about the row though.

Newernewist · 25/08/2020 17:18

Hi everyone!
Day 7 for me, generally I feel good, having a hangover every day had just become part of my life. Anxiety levels have really improved.
But insomnia is killing me, I've got a phone appointment with Dr 1st thing tomorrow, earliest I could get, so hopefully tomorrow (if I can get to chemist and dr tomorrow to collect) tomorrow night might be a good night sleep.
I've fallen asleep on sofa this afternoon so tonight will be a struggle again.

Newernewist · 25/08/2020 17:19

And well done @Rupertpenrysmistress on having a AF cider, I've never seen them in pubs near me, but I've never looked tbh
Would be nice if my local did sell it.

Day 2 done! I can’t believe how much I think about having a drink - I think because I know I can’t?! In the morning I feel glad I haven’t and determined not to but as the days goes on I crave one more and more. Once I get past a certain time of the evening I’m okay but those in between times it’s tough!

Well done to all of you on coming so far - I’ve read the thread from the beginning and it’s so informative and supportive :)
