Thread 4 for support, tips, tricks and friendship as we reduce our alcohol intake even more. For anyone who wants to reduce, stop, moderate or even just track their drinking.

Absolutely no judgement, just support. Everyone welcome.

Previous threads somewhere but am rubbish at clicky links.

Old tryers and new dryers, welcome to our thread. The one that starts in February and will see us all hit our goals as we move forwards.

Hugs flossie 💐

Thanks everyone for being so kind to me and so understanding. I feel a hundred times better today as I didnt drink last night and I slept from 11pm - 7.30am today without even waking for a wee, which is unusual and amazing, I needed it, clearly.

I may have some wine later but I may not, we’ll see. I’m spending a few days with a friend next week and she doesnt drink, she’s been sober for about 15 years now so I may not drink when I’m with her. She is fine with it but it’s probably easier not to, I will be driving so that should be ok. Still have that hot shame feeling but it is passing 🙂

longestlurkerever · 09/02/2019 16:26

Oh Flossie. Sad. How horrendous for you. Did you tell them they were being insensitive? I am glad DD likes hospital school. Silver lining there. How often does it run? My friends little boy that I mentioned previously has had a few sessions at the one at GOSH I think, but he's only 4.

Water glad you feel better. I am not sure the odd big night out is really a problem but keep safe.

Did the park run again. Got exactly the same time as last week, to the second, but at least I did it. Have parked kids in front of film and may have little lie down before night out.

PurpleDinosaur · 09/02/2019 17:48

Flossie so sorry the meeting didn't feel very helpful, it sounds a really tough situation.

Longest well done on the park run! I'm hoping to get out for a run tomorrow morning hangover free if I can get through this eve. Day 6. Can't remember the last time I went this long without a drink. DH is about to come home with wine though so it's going to be a struggle to stay AF today.

Water glad you are feeling better.

If anyone wants to post shouty STAY DRY PURPLE posts through this eve to keep me going please do!!!!

PurpleDinosaur · 09/02/2019 17:51

Nc4 just saw your day 1, good luck. Have you got back to your blanket yet? I just started a hat, hoping that'll see me through tonight!

NC4Now · 09/02/2019 20:40

How are you doing Purple? I’ve just been out for tea with my boys. Had a pint of shandy, but I’m not counting that.
My friends are threatening to pop round on their way into town shortly. It would be nice to see them but not sure I can be arsed (they will arrive armed with Prosecco).
We’ll see....

PurpleDinosaur · 09/02/2019 21:12

Hi nc4 im doing ok, thx for asking. Husband is drinking but I've not felt too bad missing out. Did eat my own body weight in Chinese takeaway though which has def helped! How are you doing, did your friends come over? X

NC4Now · 09/02/2019 22:20

No they haven’t bothered and I’m quite glad really. They were totally up for a night out and I’m just not. I had a nice time out with my boys and am quite content sat here in my comfies with a fire, the cat and my book 😂
We tidied the house before we went out, so it’s lovely and cosy. I love my house so much!

Flossie44 · 09/02/2019 22:22

STAY DRY PURPLE!!!!!!!!! (Hope that helped Grin)

Af tonight!! Day 1. Will be only day 1 tho as cooking roast tomorrow and do love a tipple while I cook!!
Also not overly proud of my AF today..it’s merely down to a stinking hangover!! Lovely
Bottle of voignier last night doesn’t feel as lovely now!!!! Confused

PurpleDinosaur · 09/02/2019 22:44

Thanks Flossie!!!!!

Nc4 that sounds very cosy!

I'm off to bed now with my book. AF day 6 done. Hurrah!

longestlurkerever · 09/02/2019 23:21

Well done everyone! I have had three points at mate's 40th and am now heading for a kebab. Is that moderating? Not sure

Dionysa · 10/02/2019 13:10

I was going to say 'morning, Tryers', but have realised it's actually afternoon. Grin

Last night was not dry, thanks to DP, but could have been worse (extremely potent gin confection plus half a bottle of wine). Awake at 4 with headache, heartburn and beer fear. But it was worth it, unfortunately.

Purple well done on Day 6!!!!! And Flossie, well done on Day One. I will be struggling with Day One, again, tonight.

NC4, I love what you said about your house. I think I love mine more now that I have been on an AF cleaning frenzy. Grin

Longest, that does sound like moderation.

I am wasting time on the internet doing jobs at home today, still with a headache.

Frouby · 10/02/2019 13:27

Hello all

Just a quick check in.

Flossie am so sorry about your meeting, its so shit for these children that can't cope with full time school, the provision is shocking. Nephew didn't get his place either and there is a mishmash of provision in place for him which is no where near enough. Poor kids.

Wasn't dry last night, had quite a few beers if I am honest. But had a good giggle with dh, some very quiet rude sex and woke up feeling fairly fresh rather than hungover which is good.

Had a mad busy morning, been to a garden centre to price up fruit trees for the allotment, been to B and M, done the invoicing for the last 2 weeks and had a quick tidy round. Just starting to do sunday dinner now and opened a can of diet coke to keep me off the beer again.

Am determined to do better this week. AF tonight and tomorrow, possibly not Tuesday, definetly Wednesday and Thursday and only damp on friday as I have my course on Saturday which I am really, really looking forwards to. It will be the first full day out I have ever had since ds was born 5 years ago.

Looking forward to an adult only day with my cousin, meeting someone I have talked to for 6 months on the phone or via fb and just generally doing important, grown up stuff.

Am even going to treat myself to a new top. Living the dream here. Living the god damn dream 😂😂😂

Evening all,
I am about to be not dry. No excuse at all, other than I want a nice G&T Grin.
Onwards and upwards tomorrow. Hope everyone has had a good day. I have achieved absolutely nothing, but have read a lot about matched betting.

PurpleDinosaur · 10/02/2019 19:29

frouby good work on the rude sex 👍🤣.

Hope you've all had a nice day.

I've made it to day 7 of 7 planned dry days. This afternoon was hard but I'm really pleased I did it. Going for 6 days AF next week. 🤞

longestlurkerever · 10/02/2019 19:32

Hello all. I had a nice day at baby shower and piano lesson but dd2 is still poorly- and worse than yesterday- so getting a bit concerned. Tried to phone gp advice line but the next appointment was past midnight and I decided there was no point, it's either out of hours or wait till morning. Am going with the latter for now but keep checking on her. She's hot, and has been lying on sofa all day.

Had one glass of fizz at baby shower but will be AF tonight. Tbh I fancy bath and bed now.

Glad everyone had fun evenings one way or another Wink.

longestlurkerever · 10/02/2019 19:34

Crossed posts Purple, that's great! I think a dry weekend is a good milestone to achieve.

PurpleDinosaur · 10/02/2019 19:52

Thanks longest! Hope your daughter starts feeling better soon, it's horrible when they are poorly. Xx

PurpleDinosaur · 10/02/2019 20:06

Just been talking to DH about us not having drunk today. We nearly always have a few drinks Sunday afternoon and often then a few more once kids in bed. Then fall into bed to face school prep/tidying/lunches etc in a fog in the morning. Instead today I've finished a job application, done all ironing for the week, got kids clothes out ready for tomorrow, made packed lunches and put all laundry away. The lounge is tidy (admittedly not rest of the house) and I'm not dreading a Monday hangover. Someone please remind me of this post if I start wavering over the coming weeks and go back to regular boozy weekends. I still love drinking but I've got up remind myself there are good things about not boozing too.

Sorry for the long boring post!

Dionysa · 10/02/2019 20:25

Purple, I will remind you. You need to remind me, too. But not tonight, which is a write-off. Which job have you applied for?

Longest, I'm really sorry to hear about DD2. I hope there is some improvement tomorrow.

NC4, how is the Blanket coming along?

Frouby, I want to know more about the rude sex. Can we compare notes? Grin

PurpleDinosaur · 10/02/2019 21:16

dion yes let's do some mutual reminding next weekend! Job is same as I currently do but would be a more senior position. Quite terrifying prospect in some ways but the extra money is much needed. I'll need to do lots of prep if I get an interview so hopefully that'll be further incentive not to drink.

What's everyone's plans booze wise this week? I'm aiming for dry till Saturday.

Dionysa · 10/02/2019 21:43

Purple, dry til Saturday? In my dreams, but am more than happy to cheer you on... Fingers crossed for the job...

NC4Now · 10/02/2019 21:58

Frouby I’m jealous of your giggly, shaggy night with DH. I miss those nights. It’s been a very long time.
Ex-H seems to have lost interest again, so I was right to be wary.
Dion it’s ridiculous how much I love my house. It’s nothing fancy, just a Coronation St style terrace, but it’s lovely inside, and what’s more, it’s mine. I was so unhappy in my old place I often just take a big breath in and smile.
To coin a Kondo, it sparks joy.
Two beers tonight, damn fine beers too. There’s a new micropub opening over the road (can my house get any better!! 😂) and the owner invited me in to see the refurb and sent me away with a couple of ales.
That’s it now though. On the wagon till.... erm.... soon.

waterandlemonjuice · 10/02/2019 23:18

Hi everyone, drank last night but was a lovely night with dd and dh, don't regret it at all, am away with friends today and back from a fab night out, drank wine but not to excess, feel happy 😊

Dionysa · 11/02/2019 19:24

Intended to be dry tonight, but failed. I blame XH, though I know this is feeble. FML.

NC4Now · 11/02/2019 20:19

Are you ok Dion?
I’m AF tonight- came straight in from work into the shower and PJs.
