Thread 4 for support, tips, tricks and friendship as we reduce our alcohol intake even more. For anyone who wants to reduce, stop, moderate or even just track their drinking.

Absolutely no judgement, just support. Everyone welcome.

Previous threads somewhere but am rubbish at clicky links.

Old tryers and new dryers, welcome to our thread. The one that starts in February and will see us all hit our goals as we move forwards.

Dion that's progress right there, just keep swimming! new job is all about fishing rights and quotas and stuff. Which obviously I know bigger all about, but hoping for some site visits.

FFS DD has now objected to authentic Celt cloak aka my black poncho on basis they didn't wear black, they used natural dyes. Not soot,, plant dyes. No, Mummy, pitch is not a thing. And her face when I suggested Princess Anna's pink one might do... Apparently her teacher has a few back up ones for poor mites who don't have a costume. Huff, sigh. Her teacher had to take my last effort home and sew it back together too. Hence why I turn to wine in the evenings and not wholesome craft.

Was AF by skin of teeth in the end as DH suggested wine and my resolve is paper thin but we pulled it back from the brink and had nanny state. If he suggests it again tonight I will cave but he's supposed to be going out.

Well done Purple dinosaur.

PurpleDinosaur · 07/02/2019 18:12

canshop well done on 3 AF days too! And it sounds like there been lots of moderating/tempted-but-didn't action too, we are on it!

I've finished work for the week so usually always drink on a Thursdays but my resolve is strong - though I am thinking about wine +++.

Those of you with teenagers are scaring me about the future too. I have small ones and sometimes the lack of sleep/tantrums seems awful but I'm wondering now if this might be the easy bit 😬.

So what's everyone's plans tonight? Staying in/going out? Any tips for how I can ease the wine craving tonight??

Frouby · 07/02/2019 18:17

Evening all

Flouncy 14 year olds are knobheads. Mine flounced tonight because ds (5) sat in 'her' seat to eat tea. Fml. Is she Goldilocks? Said he would get tuna on 'her' seat. Said she could wipe it. Wanted to know 'why should she clean up after him?' Don't think she was expecting to be told that the same reason I clean up after everyone including doing her jobs this week (hoovering upstairs and the bathroom) as she hasn't bothered but to make up for it she can dust every single skirting board in the house.

Not dry here, this week is a write off but I did pick some AF Peroni up from Tescos ready for next week. I did also consider some more rhubarb and ginger gin as it was on offer but as I have about 5 bottles of various types and flavours I talked myself out of it.

Sticking to gin and slim today though, I really need to lose some weight. Put some jeans on today and they were really really fucking tight. Did the school run and swapped to harems when I got home. I did console myself slightly with the fact that they were too short, so am hoping they have shrunk rather than me got even fatter and gone through a growth spurt Grin.

Well, the dishes have finally been done. He tried it on with grandma too “I’ll do it when everyone stops nagging me” but somehow changed his tune.
I think she offered to dry if he washed.
Anyway, she brought lasagna for my tea which was proper lush, calmed my kid down and generally waved her wand.
Frouby too bloody right with DD! Cheeky mare. It’s all about boundaries and pulling their weight. Such a ball ache to enforce though.
Flossie I hope this doesn’t last till 26 😫 I thought I’d cracked it with DS1 at 16.
I feel a bit better today. Someone I’ve known most of my career posted some lovely comments about me in a professional Facebook group. I was blown away!
I’ve agreed to do 2 days of this new job next week, to give me time to work on other things but keep my hand in with them. Seems a decent balance.

longestlurkerever · 07/02/2019 19:44

To be honest I am no help purpledinosaur. Am in same boat and am cracking open the wine. DH isn't going out so my usual Thursday plan of bath and bed with ability to hog the telly remote is foiled, DD is still poorly so my time off tomorrow is cancelled as she won't be well enough for forest school, and I am babysitting for a friend tomorrow evening so I am going to have wine tonight. Sorry to let you down!

I had to come home and relieve DH who has apparently caught dd's bug, sigh. Luckily she lay peakily on the sofa all afternoon, drifting in and out of sleep, so I got some work done, albeit not what I had planned to do. Was hoping to maintain charade of professionalism in new job slightly longer than 2 days but hey ho.

NC4 I am glad you have a good mum looking after you.

Frouby- well done on resisting rhubarb gin. Tbh I have never liked gin. Love rhubarb but have never tried the flavoured gins so can stick to crumble and avoid that temptation.

Flossie44 · 07/02/2019 20:15

Whizzing by. Sorry for no personals. Having hot flushes this eve. Does it raise your body temp when you have pre menopausal flushes?? Anyone know?? I’m mid 40’s and periods a bit wierd these days so know it’s on the cards. Anyway..felt the classic hot flush. Face on fire. Body fine. Took temp and it’s 38.5!! Wtf?!

Anyone??

Obviously I’m making it better with dominoes pizza and wine!! Fml!!

Big multi agency meeting about dd tomorrow so bricking it!!

Flossie44 · 07/02/2019 20:19

My hot flush felt like when I was taking hormone meds for ivf!! 😫😫

NC4Now · 07/02/2019 20:29

Eep, I don’t know Flossie. I get night sweats sometimes but haven’t had the joy of hot flushes yet.
Been getting the night sweats since early 30s though - I think they are down to my dodgy joints.
I don’t fancy the menopause much. I’m 42 and in total denial.

longestlurkerever · 07/02/2019 20:36

I don't know to be honest. Might you be ill? Lots of nasties going around. Big hugs either way. I hope you get to the meeting and it goes well.

Zofloramummy · 07/02/2019 20:47

Not AF a bottle down of the red stuff. I have on the plus side done the spelling, reading and choir practice required this evening.

I’ve just had a fuck it day after hearing about temp contracts at my work not having to have another interview and now basically feel ‘less than’ as my contract ends in March and there are 3 jobs out to advert and I haven’t been shuffled into one of them.

So I’m looking into my options and having a bit of a bugger it night. Plus I didn’t sleep until 4am last night.

Glad he did the dishes!

NC4Now · 07/02/2019 21:04

Ah Zoflora I totally get that. I’d be having a fuck it night too. Is there a job at your place you’d like or are you looking elsewhere?
I think DS is exhausted and possibly growing. Both tonight and last night I’ve found him asleep at 7.30pm, then he’s had to wake up for homework etc.
Probably why he’s playing up.
I’m extremely lucky to have my ma looking out for me.

Dionysa · 07/02/2019 21:21

Evening, Tryers.

If only I could bottle some of your funny comments on here, I'd never need to drink again. 🤣🤣🤣

Teenagers are a right PITA. I love toddlers, though. Just when I think I might be making progress with DS (16), he reminds me what he's really like. As for DD: today's flounce was because the milk had gone off. That's because she is the only one who drinks it, and she left it out at the side of the oven for two days.

Flossie, I will be thinking of you tomorrow xx

As for hot flushes: ugh. I am just hot, all the time. And my periods have entered this 'can't decide' phase. I have a horrible feeling that I must be due an absolutely horrendous one to make up for a string of almost-not-there ones.

NC4, I'm glad the washing up was done in the end. Your work balance sounds good.

Longest, I'm sorry about the costume (though I did laugh, I'm afraid).

Frouby, I love the growth spurt idea 😂

Purple, have you resisted?

Canshop, thanks for the encouragement.

AF tonight. Day Two. Woo me. Bought a bottle of M&S Zero (or something). I tried to take a photo, but failed. It's apparently AF sparkling rosé, but it tastes like fizzy fruit juice to me. Not in an unpleasant way, though. It also has a third of the calories of the real thing. So my half bottle will make me neither weepy nor fat. Herbal tea now, then bed. What a struggle this all is.

Dionysa · 07/02/2019 21:22

Zoflora, don't know how I managed to miss yours. Yep, I'd be in fuck it mode too...

Dionysa · 07/02/2019 21:36

Also meant to say (and I'm sorry, but I can't remember who asked me this) that I have tentatively tried matched betting. I am about £15 up!! It may not sound huge, but it will pay DD's bus fares for 7 days (for instance). And everything like that makes a difference at the moment. Not yet the thousands hundreds I need, but a start. I am doing a free trial with Profit Accumulator, which explains it all really well. And, of course, Frouby is a complete star and has held my hand during my panic attacks (I am neither patient nor organised, and don't follow instructions - none of which is ideal for this!)

Flossie44 · 07/02/2019 21:45

Dion - that’s fantastic!! Congrats!! You deserve it!! Xx

Dionysa · 07/02/2019 21:54

Flossie, very sweet of you to say. Especially when your mind must be full of what might happen tomorrow. xxx

Flossie44 · 07/02/2019 22:14

Thanks Dion. I feel
Physically sick with worry. :-( x

longestlurkerever · 07/02/2019 22:45

Will be thinking of you too Flossie.

Dion, brilliant news on day 2 and on the profits accumulating. Really pleased for you.

NC4, balance sounds good.

PurpleDinosaur · 08/02/2019 06:27

flossie best of luck for today, I hope you have a supportive team around your daughter and you get some good outcomes from the meeting. Let us know how it goes.

PurpleDinosaur · 08/02/2019 06:28

dion well done on being Af yesterday. I did too so that's 4 days done now of the week. It is getting harder each night though.

PurpleDinosaur · 08/02/2019 06:39

zoflora so sorry to hear the crappy job news, that sounds stressful and no wonder you needed a wine. Did you come up with any ideas for job options? X

Ps sorry for all the individual posts I can't hold everyone's news in my head whilst writing my reply on the app! Memory is fucked 🤦‍♀️

Anglaise1 · 08/02/2019 06:57

Flossie good luck with your meeting today
Purple well done on 4 nights AF and Dion wow, 3 nights AF this week that's brilliant, and already a profit with the matched betting, a great start!
Canshop did you make 4 days AF?
Flossie 40 is quite young for the menopause, maybe its a virus? I've been in the menopause for 18 months and still haven't had any hot flushes in the day, although I do get night sweats some time. Apart from that I haven't suffered any side effects at all, but I think all the sport I do helps.
My DD will be 18 next week, she hasn't been a horrible teenager at all, well at least not until this week. She seems to think being 18 means she can do and have what she wants but it doesn't. I'm more worried about DS will be like in his teenage years as he is a lot less serious about school, well a lot less serious about everything really.
I haven't been AF but Wed and Thurs just one glass of wine so serious moderating. I went to see an Osteopath about my back and it is a million times worse now, he said my rib cage was blocked but it feels like I now have a couple of broken ribs.
I also had the results of a blood test and it turns out I now have hyperthyroidism so at least I know why I've been so irritable and anxious even without drinking loads!

PurpleDinosaur · 08/02/2019 07:12

Ouch that sounds so painful anglaise and rubbish about the thyroid issue too- what's the treatment? Are you seeing osteopath again too? Hope it eases over the day. I'm seriously impressed with your single glasses of wine too. Once I start I find it hard to stop, so hats off to you x

Dionysa · 08/02/2019 07:20

Will read in a bit, but just sending hugs to Flossie for today xx

Frouby · 08/02/2019 07:53

Hope everything goes well Flossie. Go and kick arse x
