Thread 4 for support, tips, tricks and friendship as we reduce our alcohol intake even more. For anyone who wants to reduce, stop, moderate or even just track their drinking.

Absolutely no judgement, just support. Everyone welcome.

Previous threads somewhere but am rubbish at clicky links.

Old tryers and new dryers, welcome to our thread. The one that starts in February and will see us all hit our goals as we move forwards.

Cuddling a beanbag for an hour Grin
Tell me I’m not the only one that read that as gin yoga?

Thisnamechanger · 27/03/2019 13:29

They do a workshop called Gin Yin!

Dionysa · 27/03/2019 13:39

Hugs all round. Laughed at gin yoga, though!

I have just been reading about a wonder herb called Kudzu, which is supposed to help with moderation. I'm going to order some on Amazon. It's expensive, but not much more expensive than gin, and cheaper than hypnotherapy. FML.

NC4Now · 27/03/2019 13:41

I want to like Yin Yoga. I’m quite good at it because of my hypermobility but for the same reason I have to avoid it as it leaves me in agony for days. It’s all the deep ligament work, isn’t it, but because mine are so stretchy they damage easily.
How’s that for snowflake? Can’t cope with a yoga class 😂
Actually I’m fine with other types - love ashtanga. Last summer they did free sunset yoga on the beach (I live near the West coast). It was beautiful. I hope they do it again this year. Here’s a pic for zen-ness...

NC4. That piccie is just stunning. I’m obsessed with the sun, and the colours it produces. I’m sure that’s a sign of age!! 😂😂
I too live near the beach. It’s my little haven. If I feel low or down, I take myself to the sea and breath in the salty air. Smile

Thisnamechanger · 27/03/2019 14:09

I’m quite good at it because of my hypermobility

Snap! Or maybe that's the wrong choice of words! It doesn't seem to hurt me too much though. I don't push myself especially hard as you can probably tell!!

Frouby · 27/03/2019 16:09

I would be good at gin yoga I reckon. Or lagerrobics. Just not normal exercise. Well I used to be good at it and a bit of a gym bunny at one point but am just fat, stiff and at the same time wobbly these days.

I always think I am a knobber if I have too much. I flob around feeling hungover, thinking about all the things I could be getting on with and then have real drinkers remorse.

Ds is home from school and looking a bit pasty and says he wants to go to bed. Hope he's not coming down with something else. His best mates mum text me this morning to say her ds wouldn't be at school and did I know the best way to get vomit stains out of a cream carpet bless her.

I sometimes feel like that wizard in wizard of oz. I get asked the most random questions. My cousin comes for relationship advice on a regular basis. One dsis asks about everything from how to stop ferrets fighting (I don't have and have never had ferrets), how to grow veg, what's wrong with her car, whats wrong with her chuff, how to stop having bad dreams and a billion other questions. And I have 4 sisters and they all seem to think I am the bloody oracle. And if I don't know and say I don't know they go quiet, then ask if there is anyone I do know that might know 😂😂😂😂.

Wont be dry tonight, have horrendous period pains so am drinking to numb my uterus.

I think you’re nearer the beach than me Flossie - it’s about a 20 minute drive from me but I should make more of it.
I go all gooey over sunsets, skies etc. I don’t think it’s an age thing though.
I remember being similarly obsessed in my teens and 20s.
This tune 😍

Dionysa · 27/03/2019 16:33

Brilliant song NC4. Brings back memories! Brilliant photo too.

Frouby, I'm feeling crap today, so enjoyed your post all the more. Sorry about your DS, though. I hope a good sleep sorts him out.

I had painkilling injections today, so have been banned from drinking tonight. FML, FML, FML.

Canshopwillshop · 27/03/2019 16:56

Checking in. Day 3 here but DH muttering about needing wine ‘for a change’ tonight! 🙄 Not sure I have the willpower to resist.

Flossie - I’m so sorry about your DD. I really hope you get some help/answers soon.

Thisnamechanger and NC4 - I’m very bendy too so also good at yoga type stuff. Can’t run to save my life though and don’t do much else apart from walk the dog so am a bit lardy!

Frouby - we shall have to call you ‘Froub the wise’ from now on ... can you advise on how to get rid of a chubby chuff 😂

Dionysa - I’m off to google Kudzu!

Dionysa · 27/03/2019 17:08

Who's going to NC to ChubbyChuff first, then? (Or FatFanny)? Grin

longestlurkerever · 27/03/2019 17:51

If I had a Frouby irl I think I would turn to her for wise counsel too!

Fancy wine tonight. Am hoping dh does too. I could still be AF tomorrow, which would be three AF nights this week. I can’t decide whether three AF nights and no more than 1/2 a bottle in an evening is a reasonable pattern to stick to or if I should be pushing for four or five AF nights. It’s progress since I joined the thread, anyway, if not quite in line with my ambitions at that time. I need to work on never opening the second bottle though, and on maintaining s slightly more professional pace at work things etc.

I don’t tend to hate myself after drinking though. I can be an argumentative cow I guess, but I am a bit like that anyway, so only tend to associate with people who agree with me Wink. I think I actually prefer myself after a drink or two to be honest- I can be a bit socially awkward without and lack confidence. That’s the trouble - drinking feels much better than being AF, but is addictive and unhealthy.

Frouby · 27/03/2019 18:46

Don't come to me longest unless it's about growing veg, ponies, chicken or veg. Definetly dont know enough about vags or cars or ferrets to give advice. But can help with any of the above, am ok at betting too (don't gamble, always lay) and am ok at cooking certain things.

Speaking of which I am cancelling friday night takeaway night for me and dh. Sick of ordering food and it being rubbish so am going to start batch making curry.

Just another thing to add to my already massive to do list, but I reckon it will save is £100 a month and be nicer. angalaise did your book come yet? The last 2 I ordered for my friend and cousin took weeks to come.

Well you seem to have a useful range of specialist subjects Frouby. I can help out with queries about crime, Coronation Street and 80s/90s ska and indie music (bit of rave thrown in). Not much use really.
On a practical level I can build a decent fire and am very good at budgeting.
AF here till at least Friday now. I’ve overcommitted myself for work the next few days and I’m already on the brink of a breakdown, so I’ve changed my sheets, tidied my bedroom and picked up my increased prescription to try and jolly my way through.

Anglaise1 · 27/03/2019 19:55

Frouby book hasn't arrived yet, but as I'm in France there is an excuse for the delivery to take longer!
I hate any kind of yoga, my way of relaxing is to run, cycle or swim and use as much energy as possible. My brother swears by yoga but everyone has their 'go to' thing to relax and de stress.
Not dry tonight - a very low offer I made on beautiful old house with DP has been accepted, so we are celebrating. There is enough land for us to have at least one donkey and a lot more hens. And it is near footpaths so fantastic for running, plus near most of my friends. We are getting married too (not bad first time for me at age ) so I suppose that needs celebrating too Grin

Frouby · 27/03/2019 19:57

Oh wow Anglaise, massive congratulations on both! And I can be your knowledgeable friend on donks (worm for redworm) and chickens 😍

Dionysa · 27/03/2019 20:56

Oh my God, Anglaise!!!!!!! What brilliant news all round. I'm so happy for you. 💍 All we need now is for Brexit to be called off Grin.

Day One tonight. I never, ever regret an AF night (rare as they are). I always, always regret drinking. Yet I still do it. Confused

NC4, good luck with the work.

Longest, your wet/dry pattern sounds pretty good to me. I'd be happy with that.

NC4Now · 27/03/2019 20:59

Oh wow Anglaise!!!!

Congratulations Grin That definitely calls for a celebration 🍾🎉

And a donkey too. It’s all go for you! Any idea on timescales?

Flossie44 · 27/03/2019 21:55

Wahooooo anglais!! 💍. Congrats. That’s fabulous news!!!!!!!

Flossie44 · 27/03/2019 21:56

Frouby - my question is....how do I get rid of a chubby chuff once it’s arrived?!

longestlurkerever · 27/03/2019 22:22

Oh fabulous news Anglaise! Congratulations! What will you do with a donkey? (Urban urchin here).

Gah, brexit is not off.

Anglaise1 · 28/03/2019 05:43

Morning all
Thankyou for you good wishes, it was all slightly unexpected and is likely to be very quick - I can then rent out my house for the summer once it has been cleaned and redecorated
Longest the donkey is just because we both love them and they are beautiful. Certainly not to eat!
The new house is habitable but needs a lot of work, a new roof being one of the things! DP built his last house so is well qualified to do everything. DC happier because the house is less in the middle of nowhere and DS will have friends nearby.
Just need to get back to being AF in the week now although with all the work we will have I don't think that will be a problem.

Frouby · 28/03/2019 10:35

Flossie the only way to get rid of a ChubbyChuff is to exercise the fucker. It likes lots of walks, problem is you then end up with an overfit, muscley chuff that needs lots of exercise and stimulation. The last thing you want is a bored chuff looking for things to do.

My advice is to embrace your ChubbyChuff, with both hands if necessary. ChubbyChuffs are much easier to keep if a bit unfit. A lot less hassle. Hope that helps.

Flossie44 · 28/03/2019 11:17

“A chubby chuff looking for things to do” 😂. My chuff will never be looking for things to do...it likes to chillax 😂
God frouby..you make me laugh out loud!

Thisnamechanger · 28/03/2019 18:26

Argh help - huge temptation tonight. Just smashed best ever year target at work and feel celebratory. What AF treats can i reward myself with??
