Anyone got a Barbour?

I have been going round in circles with this for months. I have recently had a significant pay rise and want to continue buying investment pieces of clothing. I have recently came out of an abusive relationship and want to treat myself well.

should I buy a Barbour? I love this one, https://www.barbour.com/gb/icons-tartan-collar-modern-beadnell-waxed-jacket-LWX1582OL71.html?_gl=11mjekn4_upMQ..gs*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjw25fWBhAVEiwAMopNjjuJBIKUwafdXsnpjVZl2Hj7-Ike3RvESbDk6k-590QDQcHSXnxkBoCMUcQAvD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAADtGNrhYTSGU2_0xQyGo4bCUL3A9v

any Barbour fans that would recommend. I have no landrover, dog or tweed cap but I love them 😂

I have two. I love them! One is bigger for wearing with jumpers etc in winter. The other is fine without. I also have the ankle wellies and they’re lovely! Love Barbour!

Try it on before you buy! I have a Beadnell and I had to go up 3 sizes!

I have one from about 7 years ago and agree it is snug and also short in the arms - I reckon gojng up a size would have helped.

FashionVixen · Today 12:21

Do! I have a beadnell and a short quilted high-collared jacket, They’ve worn incredibly well.

StylishAndBeautiful · Today 12:28

@Debtfreeme , there's a reason why that one is reduced. I kind of like it but it sort of defies the draw of the barbour.
I generally don't like the fashion barbours. For me they come in green or brown with a cord collar and the standard lining, and are either a Beadnell or a Beaufort.

If you want to save money, buy pre-loved on ebay or vinted. They come up in charity shops sometimes and in more or less mint condition.

I still have a navy jacket that I bought in the 1980s. As people have said, you can get Barbour to rewax and repair the jackets which is great. And, as with other coats, it is often sensible size up so you can wear bigger sweaters, too.

Yes, @Debtfreeme buy it, it is an investment piece!

I bought a classic Burberry Trench when I had a pay rise, love it, looks stylish and excellent quality. I always get compliments especially when paired with a silk scarf. I wear it sometimes open with jeans and skirts with boots. I prefer it to the barbour but not as waterproof!

BTW I bought mine in Bicester village in the outlet which was half price!

Paulrn · Today 12:38

Yes buy one but be warned you will need to replace it in 30 or so years if you wear it a lot.

I love them. Trouble is,I don’t have one at the moment, and I come from an age and class that can’t wear a new one and am searching on Vinted to no avail!

I still have mine from the 80s! It's got a few holes but still going strong
My Dad bought it for me, he died recently so I thought I would send it back, get it cleaned (the lining is minging) and properly rewaxed and get the holes mended so I could keep wearing it, but when I put it all in it cost over £200! I am still tempted to do it though.

How about gumtree? This is identical to mine! Even the same size, and from Fulham lol (but I would say it's a 12 not a 10)

@OldieButBaddie ,you can repair it yourself if you are that way inclined. AFAIK, if you send the coat for repair it will come back in a very good state.

@CurlewKate , look on ebay. One in dire need of re-proofing will be cheap.

nuttymut · Today 12:51

I’ve got two , ones a parka type with a hood in navy as the olive colour doesn’t suit me . I’ve had it over 15 years and had the zip replaced and had it rewaxed . I’ve always had dogs and it’s great . Although not that warm in really cold weather , so I’d size up for extra layers .
I also have a smarter knee length Barbour in brown but it doesn’t have a hood . Sorry but I can’t remember the names .
if you have an outlet near you , check to see if they have Barbour .

Slushynana · Today 12:58

They are brilliant, got mine at McArthur Glen outlet, had it for years.

canklesmctacotits · Today 13:01

It’s greasy/waxy when new, so be careful
how you store it. Don’t hang it in a closet next to your woolen winter coat!

I like mine for spring/autumn and until it gets too cold to wear with a sweater underneath. Love the pockets, love the cropped shape, love the capacious hood. For me the only downside is that it’s isn’t breathable (because waterproof), meaning if it’s not cold enough I get hot and sweaty under it. But if it’s too cold it offers inadequate warmth. I can’t stand around watching a sports match for too long in it, but I can run errands without a handbag.

Moveoverdarlin · Today 13:02

I bought one in the late 90s that’s still going strong.
