I have three, a knee length lightweight Lambley with a cotton lining, a Garroway and a Fulbourn.
The Lambley has a very large fixed hood, with drawcord and toggles, so it will go over a woolly hat, baseball cap and even my wide brimmed Australian-style bush hat. The lining of the sleeves doesn’t sit right and always pokes out at my wrists, so in pouring rain the cotton lining wicks the water up inside the sleeves. That area of lining inside the cuffs is filthy and isn’t far off disintegrating. Also I sweat buckets when wearing it, it is not remotely breathable.
The Garroway was my daughter’s, it tore at the collar where she wasn’t careful enough hanging it on a hook, I’ve sewn a patch but she won’t wear it. When I lose a stone or two it might fit me.
The Fulbourn is thickly padded, warm and showerproof, but the funnel neck is too high and stiff so it scratches my jaw, and if all the poppers are done up it’s too tight to fit a soft scarf underneath, it just about fits a lightweight “Buff” snood when I’m wearing a polo neck jumper. I don’t like the pockets, I like to be sure my phone and keys can’t fall out. It was bought pre-owned.
Honestly I don’t think they’re as weatherproof as my first one was (in 1975, long before they were “fashionable”). I really prefer Seasalt or Musto for weather-resistance with breathability.
