Who’s got their heating on?

Anyone else managed to avoid putting the heating on yet? I don’t think I’ve got into October without using it before (that I can recall) - however this evening is the first I’ve felt I could do with it for an hour or so. But I’m enjoying saving a few quid for as long as I possibly can…

what’s everyone else doing??

Up until yesterday my house was really warm - thermostat showing 20.5 °in the living room on an evening.
Last night and tonight I'm feeling less comfortable even though the thermostat is still up at 18° atm.
But no I won't be putting the heating on until it drops a lot lower.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/10/2026 20:00

Definitely not even though it was cold outside for the first time today (15 degrees in London) it’s still 26 in my house.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/10/2026 20:01

My thermostat is set to 19 and currently at 19 so could kick in

Newmeagain · 07/10/2026 20:01

Yes, it is cold tonight for the first time. Heating not on yet as it is 19.4 in the house.

fluffiphlox · 07/10/2026 20:02

Yes!

Shoobadadoo · 07/10/2026 20:02

Felt a tiny bit chilly but didn’t let myself put it on. Going to wait til end of month. We have a very well insulated new build

IronEverything · 07/10/2026 20:03

Had it on in the mornings for a couple of weeks. Tonight is the first evening I've put it on, I think.

ILoveKits · 07/10/2026 20:03

It's very chilly. No but I put the 9 tog duvet on the bed yesterday and have just found a cardigan. It will click on the morning, but hadn't tonight.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/10/2026 20:03

Nope! Heating won’t be on here for a while yet. It’s not that cold that sticking a jumper on isn’t enough and we have plenty of blankets.

Cantstopeatingjaffacakes · 07/10/2026 20:03

I just put mine on for hour to take the chill off. It’s definitely starting to feel more autumnal temperature wise.

Hotafternoon · 07/10/2026 20:05

I think I need to test my heating system and put it on just to make sure it's working OK.

The fact that I am feeling really chilly is just coincidence. 😆

Chipsahoy · 07/10/2026 20:06

NE Scotland here. Ours has kicked in a few times in last few weeks. We’ve had a little frost today.

rutap · 07/10/2026 20:08

Had it on a fair few times and have it on tonight, its nippy

Whyohwhy99 · 07/10/2026 20:08

No heating on. my house temp says 23

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/10/2026 20:08

Ours is set to come on at 19 degrees in the evening. The thermostat is reading 19.2 currently. I’m hoping it does come on!

cartagenagina · 07/10/2026 20:09

Me! I am a bit skinny though and feel the cold dreadfully!

BitterTits · 07/10/2026 20:09

I haven't but I'm using a fleece, a blanket and a hot water bottle. I'm not freezing but I've been a bit chilly in the evenings. Nobody else has mentioned it so no need for heating yet.

Exhaustedand · 07/10/2026 20:09

Just put mine on! It's cold outside.

Justmuddlingalong · 07/10/2026 20:10

Avoided putting the heating on so far. Wearing an oodie and snuggled under a blanket on the sofa.
It is quite chilly, the tip of my nose feels cold, but I'll head off to bed shortly.
Might be time to think about putting the heavier quilt on the bed. Don't think the 4.5 tog will be up to the job if the low temperatures continues like tonight.

mugglewump · 07/10/2026 20:15

Trying to hold off putting it on as we have a draughty Victorian house and it guzzles the gas. Kitchen thermostat is reading 20.5 (our warmest room as it is an extension) but I know upstairs will be colder. We put on the wood burner last night which was cozy and I am planning to get out the winter duvets this weekend.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2026 20:18

Me

put it on sometimes in Sept. If I’m cold I click it on

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 07/10/2026 20:20

I hate being cold. It makes my chronic pain worse plus my cat is older and disabled so she needs a cosy house too.
My heating has been on a few times in September and is on right now.

IwanttoWFH · 07/10/2026 20:20

Today’s the first day I’ve noticed it’s been chilly. I’ve worn a jumper and am currently under a blanket, although my thermostat says it’s 21.7 in the house!

I don’t plan on putting the heating on for a while. I have electric blankets for the sofa and the bed.

Error404FucksNotFound · 07/10/2026 20:21

Not yet. Can't really afford it this year tbh. We are all in layers and under blankets. It'll do for now.

Statsquestion1 · 07/10/2026 20:24

Not yet, we have a highly insulated new build so no need yet at all. I have no idea what temp it even is in the house to be honest as out whole heating system is off. Once we turn it on it will stay on though and we set the thermostats in each zone. We got solar panels too so hopefully it won’t cost much. Last months bill was €25 and that came from the credit we built up since April.
