Who’s got their heating on?

Anyone else managed to avoid putting the heating on yet? I don’t think I’ve got into October without using it before (that I can recall) - however this evening is the first I’ve felt I could do with it for an hour or so. But I’m enjoying saving a few quid for as long as I possibly can…

what’s everyone else doing??

Ours kicks in at 21, it started heating today when the outside temps dropped. It was nice to come home as I was frozen at work.

Swervethewinger · 07/10/2026 20:31

I didn't realise it was a lot chillier today until I got home and the house was lovely and warm when I walked in and it was so nice!

No heating yet though - we're far south and in a new build so probably won't need it for a little while longer.

Me

put it on sometimes in Sept. If I’m cold I click it on

Same!

User1786 · 07/10/2026 20:37

Never turned heating off but thermostat is set to 20 between 1800 and 2100 and it hasn’t come on yet. Saying 20.5 at the moment so might click in later!

happyjack12 · 07/10/2026 20:39

Yesterday had heating on, felt bad, so tonight sat with a hot water bottle on my lap

Crudd99 · 07/10/2026 20:42

No it's still warm here, I'm in a long sleeved t shirt and jeans. I've been outside all day and it's still warm. I'm too warm in the house. We are both in t shirts. I'm in the west Midlands. I've been looking forward to cooler weather but it's still summer warm.

Seawolves · 07/10/2026 20:43

Mine's not kicked in yet, it's set to 22° and the house is sitting just above that at the moment.

Tulipvase · 07/10/2026 20:45

Downstairs in 19 and upstairs is 16.5.

No heating but I’ve lit the fire, but that’s because I love it!

MiddleAgedDread · 07/10/2026 20:45

Mine has been on a few times for an hour to
boost it (max is 20 degrees). It was really chilly here this morning (clear skies last night) and 15.3 when I got up this morning. It was 16.7 on the hive when I was leaving work tonight so whacked it on for an hour. I only tend to put it on if it’s below 18 and not likely to warm up.

Mathsbabe · 07/10/2026 20:46

21 in the house so no, not yet, but soon

GreenEyesMillennial · 07/10/2026 20:32

Same!

Sure I had it on in Aug

was a cold wet day so put on for 20 mins and house warmed up

Lifewasapillow · 07/10/2026 20:48

Me. It's been on 22° this evening. House feels a lot more comfortable.

22! My DH would melt. Ours kicks in at 18 and he still moans then. Your bill must be massive.

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/10/2026 20:52

It’s stormy here - big wind & rain. Good night to test the heating works. 😬

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 07/10/2026 20:55

I’m lucky in that my home is rarely cold. It is a newish place and small. I only put the heating on a couple of times last winter.

MadisonAvenue · 07/10/2026 21:00

I always try to hold off putting it on until the end of October. Our house is only a year old and is very well insulated so hopefully we’ll be okay for a few weeks yet. The temperature inside is 21° at the moment.

Anyway, I hate the thought of unnecessarily paying more money to the energy company when putting on another layer will do the job.

Snowie99 · 07/10/2026 21:00

Absolutely not- I’m on oil !

Gcn · 07/10/2026 21:01

Would have had it on, but the bloody radiators aren't getting hot - plumber coming on Friday. To be honest it's not been too bad though, just keeping my cardie and slippers on.

BugJuice · 07/10/2026 21:02

My thermostat is set to 18 all year round as I never want to be colder than that! I think it kicked in in the early hours of this morning, but not for long.

PurpleLovecats · 07/10/2026 21:03

Ours clicked on for an hour earlier but I had the back door open. Once I shut it, it went off again.
I run hot though so was not impressed!

DeathMetalMum · 07/10/2026 21:03

Not yet. We've had the dehumidifier running from lunchtime onwards the past few days to finish off washing from the line which really warms up the room. We also have lots of blankets which we have been using downstairs. I still had a short sleeved t-shirt on today with a vest and warm coat

I don't normally get to October without using the heating, usually start occasionally from end of August/September so it's been nice. I'm trying to hold off for a bit longer this year I think.

ThaneOfGlamis · 07/10/2026 21:07

No, but I did wear sleeves for the first time in months!

SowSeedsDrinkWine · 07/10/2026 21:08

Seems to be a mixed bag! I’m comfortable under a fleece blanket on the sofa and had a heated blanket over my knees when working from home earlier but went out to complete a home visit and they had their heating on so just got me thinking. It’s definitely chilly but I will hold off as long as possible and wouldn’t dream of putting it on all day and night, don’t know how people can afford it (I wish I could!)

Ours is set to 16 and came on this morning for the first time. I wondered what the noise was!

MyballsareSandy2015 · 07/10/2026 21:12

No! We’re south London and it’s just not that cold yet. Wet but not chilly. Still got windows open … do that all year round. Don’t like a stuffy heated house.

Rarely have it above 18/19 when’s there’s ice outside.
