Who’s got their heating on?

Anyone else managed to avoid putting the heating on yet? I don’t think I’ve got into October without using it before (that I can recall) - however this evening is the first I’ve felt I could do with it for an hour or so. But I’m enjoying saving a few quid for as long as I possibly can…

what’s everyone else doing??

My rule is I cannot switch it on before October 1 and until a few days ago it was really easy. I am still just managing but I do have to put a hoodie on!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/10/2026 21:17

No, but the winter duvet is definitely on.

arlequin · 09/10/2026 21:19

No, just an electric heater atm

wavingfuriously · 09/10/2026 21:20

Not yet but quite soon prob 🙂

MudandMoet · 09/10/2026 21:28

Mine is on during the day because I’m nesh. I hate feeling cold or even cool indoors. It does go off between 8pm and 6am currently because I worry about my little one getting too warm in bed.

CandidHedgehog · 09/10/2026 21:45

I’ve never turned it off - I have it set quite low so it’s not been on over the summer but it’s not got cold enough to come on yet. I’m expecting it next week or the week after looking at the forecast.

I have got out my thicker quilt, though.

AgnesMcDoo · 09/10/2026 21:47

Almost never had it off.

certainly had to turn it up recently cause it’s Baltic outside

keepingitclean · 09/10/2026 21:48

It’s not something I avoid doing, if it’s cold it goes on. I’m always surprised at the amount of people who are weird about using their heating until an arbitrary date has passed. Mine was on for a couple of hours last week, then yesterday and today it’s been on all afternoon and evening.

SophiaSW1 · 09/10/2026 21:51

I’m no where near putting my heating on. it still feels warm.

JBJ · 09/10/2026 22:12

Not in the house yet, but I’ve just got back from a break in a static caravan and we had it on there first thing in the morning/evenings as it was bloody freezing! House is currently 19 degrees - thermostat is set at 17

abracadabra1980 · 09/10/2026 22:13

Just an hour on boost. To keep the dogs warm 🤔

mondaytosunday · 09/10/2026 22:25

I usually try and wait til November. It was quite mild today and back doors were open til it started raining(I’m in London). Yesterday was a stunning day and very warm in the sun. I also would normally put my gas fire on the first week or two of it getting cold enough for the heat, but it’s not working at the moment 😫.

bananaapplepears · 09/10/2026 22:43

Nowhere near putting it on here. My windows are still open at nearly 11pm. I hate central heating and being hot though.

Surely this depends where you live? I was scraping ice of my car this morning at 5am!

cheezncrackers · 10/10/2026 12:57

We put it on yesterday, partly because it felt a bit chilly, but partly because I'd shampooed the rug and wanted it to dry out!

Kalanthe · 10/10/2026 12:59

Absolutely, heating on full blast since Thursday. London is cold

ThreeTealTurtles · 10/10/2026 13:00

I’m Scottish so the heating was never off 😂

Are you joking 🤣

MeowDoku · 10/10/2026 13:24

Our thermostat is set to 19 currently it has only come on once, one morning this week. I never fully switch the heating off just adjust the temperature

SmallIslandLife · 10/10/2026 13:54

No. Holding out until November if possible. It's still relatively mild here.

I'm still at the stage of putting an extra layer on in the evenings if I start to feel cold. And I have a lovely cuddly cat who likes to sit on my lap in the evenings too 😊

It was 9 degrees at night and now it's 15, I had 18 degrees in my house in the morning

Looks to me to be pretty mild right out until 23rd Oct where I am, so only a week short of November.

October is normally on average warmer than April in the UK.

My house is still achieving a relatively warm 18C with no heating on at all yet.

Whattheduck · 10/10/2026 15:04

Not my heating but had my electric blanket on

JoannCourcyIveGotThePowerNSoul · 10/10/2026 16:09

Nope flat at 23 Ne Scotland

REDB99 · 10/10/2026 16:25

Thermostat was 16.5 yesterday so the heating went on for the first time for a couple of hours. Old Edwardian property.
