Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Jane Garvey and I kind of turned at the same time to face each other in a Pret at Euston station. I’m a huge fan of her podcast with Fi Glover and completely lost all ability to talk or move and she looked mildly pissed off. It will haunt me for the rest of my days.

I went to the same primary school as Keith Moons dd and he gave me a lift once when we got caught in a downpour. In a Rolls!

I bumped into Michael Cane (literally) coming out of a pub in London.

I was standing next to Andrew Ridgely at a BBQ and we made small talk about the spread.

My grandfather was presented to our late Queen and I was standing behind him about 6ft away.

Princess Anne came to our County Show and she smiled at me.

I babysat for over 12 years for the DGC of a very distinguished family. Sir and Lady no less. And met loads of their friends who, whilst not being 'clebs' are definitely household names.

And finally. I won a competition and was flown to London, picked up by limo and spent 5 glorious hours with GOK WAN!! He was absolutely charming and funny!

Gok is Lovely ! He’s so down to earth and kind and has a lot of time for people. I bumped into him once and acted all stupid because he’s famous and he was so nice ! He’s definitely the sort of celebrity you want to bump into !

I met Simon Calder (tv travel expert) once, we chatted for a while & he was very friendly and interested in what I said

JakeyRolling · Yesterday 08:31

I almost ran over Simon Amstell when he was being a dick of a pedestrian during the Edinburgh fringe festival.

There is a junction where pedestrians just start crossing the second traffic pauses - regardless of the light phase.

I was just moving off again when he came running from my left and in front of my car - despite it being a green light for me and a red light for him.

I hit the brakes and that was that

Michael Flatley came on to me in a club and asked me back to his hotel room. I was in my very early 20’s, I refused of course. Absolutely not!

Eyesopenwideawake · Yesterday 08:31

I snogged Jason Leonard (rugby player) while not knowing who he was.

I also went past Brixton police station on the top deck of a bus as Charles and Diana were doing something (official, I presume) there. Could have got off to see what was going on. Didn't.

I once saved comedian Ben Miller (& his wife) from a near miss by spotting that their baby was crawling out the door of the shop I worked in onto a busy London high street 😳

My next door neighbours have sold their house. They are in their 70s. We assumed a retired couple bought it. Or a family. It's ten bed.We found out yesterday it's someone famous. Like you'd have heard of them Insta verified famous and followed by lots of other famous people famous . They are 30s and single. They move in next week. I don't think they will be there much as they have multiple homes

due to the way the houses are laid out we have shared amenities. So need to agree stuff and work together.

I'm completely bemused by it. Of all the guesses we made... This wasn't one of them...

Who is it then?

Nothing exciting, he was going out with my mate and they slept over !

Seen Dougie Vipond at the Highland show, a look of recognition must have flashed on my face. He looked at me like dirt. I can't watch him on tv now as I don't think he's a v nice man 😂

He was! It was during his cooking era and we made 3 dishes together. The traffic was awful and I was late but needed the loo and lippy so dashed into the toilet. He was outside when I came out and with arms outstretched said 'come ere girlfriend!'
He later complemented me on my rack! And I really felt it was his true self and not just for show. The whole 5 hrs was a blast..

Was asked out by woody from madness in the 80’s. He was renting a video for his mum in the DER I worked in !!!

Went to see Sandy Toksvig at Waterstones when she and John McCartney were doing a book tour… she came round a corner holding a large glass of red wine as I bumped into her … spilling said red wine over her white blouse !!!

not my greatest moment.

Chesney Hawkes asked me to dance with him at a club, I turned him down until my DH whispered in my ear who it was (the bugger had asked him to approach me) on his third ask I obliged 😂

I'm not jealous-13 year old me was sooooo going to marry him and have his babies

Life didn't exactly work out that way...

(I can confirm I'm not his wife!)

Many years ago,my db and I had nipped to the local petrol station at the end of our parents street for sweets

We where next in line in the queue when a bloke wrapped up from head to foot in shiny black (he looked like hed wrapped himself in bin bags) with a cowboy hat perched on top (you could only see his eyes) stomped in,grabbed what he needed, pushed us out of the way, paid and stomped out

We genuinely thought he was Michael jackson-and where very disappointed to learn from the cashier it was the actor who played Joe sudgen from emmerdale (then emmerdale farm)

He must have been boiling as this was in the middle of a heatwave

I can still see this shiny black figure with his hat slowly walking down the street

Nasty git-i still cannot believe he pushed two young kids out of his way

No ! He was very quiet and had a curtain hairstyle, also called himself Patrick, not Paddy

We were on a cruise earlier this year (it was our long-awaited honeymoon) and one dinner we were sitting at a table next to somebody who I definitely recognised as somebody famous... but I just don't know who he was! We exchanged a few words about the food etc. (It was fantastic!) but didn't try to strike up a conversation.

Also, my DH used to run a pub and I used to visit at weekends. I used to spend the evening at the bar chatting to people while he was working. One evening I was chatting to Lemmy from Motorhead. He was a perfectly ordinary person, quite nice. I didn't let on I knew who was and he didn't tell me. I think everyone has the right just to be themselves if that is what they want.

Ineedanewsofa · Yesterday 09:04

Quite a few random ones, mainly driving related! I have (on separate occasions) nearly run over John Nettles and Dappy from NDubz. Nettles did an apologetic wave, Dappy flipped me the bird 😂
Steven Gerrard was kind enough to give me directions
In our 20s DH had a friend who was a sports agent so met a fair spread of snooker players, cricketers and golfers.
There is a footballer and his family who live in our village and support all the events (fete, Christmas concerts etc). They are lovely people and friendly to everyone 😊

I've had Robert Plant over the bonnet of my car. *

  • He needs to look before he crosses the road.

Robert Plant lives in my town
Regularly see him in the pub and around town
Geoffrey from Rainbow also lived in my town 😅

My mother was walking up the drive of a friend’s house in Cambridge in about 1940. A man who had just left the friend’s house tipped his hat to her as they passed. When she got to the door the friend said “You’ve just missed TS Eliot”.

DorsetKnobBiscuit · Yesterday 09:18

I passed Quentin Crisp in the street.
It was a very ordinary street and he was so glamorous, almost luminous, it was like seeing an angel.

Catching a train from Bristol to Manchester, I was putting my backpack in the overhead rack when I accidently brushed some bloke's head with my boob. It was David Olusoga, who accepted my apology with such grace.

Twokittenchaos · Yesterday 09:21

I nearly got run over by Tom Hardy reversing without looking, across a pavement, and once asked Brian from AC/DC if his band did any proper gigs or were just pub-type of performers, not having a clue who his band were.
