Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Loving these! I met Jasper Carrott at a golf show in my early twenties. I worked for a magazine and was on their stand. He stopped and chatted for ages, he was absolutely lovely.

You can just tell with some people that they are 'truly' nice ❤️

I was shocked about this one though.... my friend met Holly Willoughby and said she was horrid and only interested in smoking a cigarette. (I didn't think she smoked and I thought she would be nice!)

Yes she does smoke.

A few more that I remembered.

I saw Adrian Chiles near Hammersmith bridge when I was jogging - he gave me the nod.

I was in the same bar as Lemmy once I think that was in Camden or Soho.

I was at college with Simon Jordan.

I was a teacher at a boarding school - had numerous conversations over Zoom with a celebrity parent of one of my students. They were struggling with parenting during Covid.

Not me but my quite nerdy student son recognised Jim Al-Khalili the physicist in an airport queue. By an extraordinary coincidence my son happened to have his book in his bag and plucked up the courage to ask him to sign it. He was apparently lovely and when my son apologised for bothering him he joked that it rarely happened and chuckled 'I'm not Brian Cox, you know!'.

BiscoffCheesecakeAndCream · Yesterday 13:25

As a physics teacher meeting Jim would be so cool.

His daughter was in my class at school, so I went to parties at his house. Very nice man.

No, the youngest girl. Very sad re Lucy.

CherryRipe1 · Yesterday 14:33

I met Lucy, Jasper Carrot's daughter, at a pub on the Thames. She was very sweet and polite. Such a sad shame about her having cancer.

Not quite met, but colleague and I were walking to work in our twenties in Bloomsbury, and saw Ricky Gervais on the other side of the road. We obviously weren't as subtle as we thought we were in noticing him as he grinned, waved and said 'hello ladies' to us. Very charming.

I always think I'd get along with Ricky Gervais! 🤷😂

He had a lovely smile, quite made our day.

I've met Nigel Kennedy as my sister did a gig with him. I'm a massive Villa fan, as is he, so we had a great chat. My sis, who has no interest in football, demanded a crash course on the season from me so she could talk more to him, she was a little peeved that I seemed to have more in common with him than she did as a musician....

Met Carol Vorderman at Legoland years ago, on the same ride. My dh asked for her autograph and the pen he gave her broke in her hand so she was covered in ink. She was a good sport though.

She always seems like someone who'd take that sort of thing in her stride.

My daughter served. Christopher Eccelstone at the restaurant she worked in. Everyone was fawning about his latest project. Dd said ‘I really liked you as Doctor Who’ he had a really big chat with her!

Love this, he was my favourite of the new Doctors.

That's reminded me of my friend who opened her car door and almost whacked him with it. She apologised saying oh sorry Doctor, he was highly amused!

Had a little chat with kym marsh once on a night out. She was nice enough. I remember how tiny she was.
Jason orange went to my college back in 2002. He was a really lovely guy.

Back in the mid 80s I stopped to let Alvin Stardust (pushing a buggy) cross a zebra crossing. He was in full Alvin Stardust costume, not trying to be incognito.

In a hat shop in London I totally failed to recognise Judd Law until told afterwards by DW. He was with his Mum, possibly to get her a hat for Ascot which was a couple of weeks away.

thefourthbeatle · Yesterday 18:10

I've had various: Judi Dench, Shane Richie, Melvyn Bragg, 'Zodiac Mindwarp', Michael Foot (pissed out of his head - and he must have been pushing 90), Wattie from The Exploited (very friendly, as was Shane Richie), Tom Baker, the original guitarist of Fleetwood Mac (that's a story in itself), Lorraine Chase, no doubt more will come to mind. One that stands out is 'comedian' Ronald ('Ronnie') Corbett. Admittedly the encounter was fleeting, but it stayed with me. I was walking purposefully along a backstreet in Marylebone in 2004; Corbett appeared at the far end, no one else on the pavement. I was dressed up in a fancy shirt, creepers, & very ripped jeans. As Corbett approached/passed he looked me up & down & gave me the filthiest look, as if he wanted to commit murder. He was about knee-height on me. Absolute bastard. Funnily enough a work colleague also encountered him: he was playing golf on the hole after Corbett's party. Corbett "was effing & blinding the entire time... children were present. Nasty bit of work". 🤷🏾‍♀️

I did some work on a film many years ago. Some of us met up one night after the film had finished and went to an indie club including some of the main cast. At the end of the night Robert Pattinson asked me if he could come home with me (he was a bit drunk to be fair! ) I was single at the time and could have totally taken advantage of the situation, but quite sensibly I sent him on his way! The sensible part was the fact that I was 30 at the time and he was 19!!!🫣

These are brilliant!

I’ve met Zola and Dennis Wise when they played for Chelsea (I was at a wedding at the hotel they were staying in), Ken Barlow briefly in a supermarket and Kevin Keegan, who was so lovely and the recent news was really upsetting.

I’ve also met Peter Shilton and Tony Currie …. Other than Ken Barlow it seems to be all footballers for me!
