Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Do you remember Des Barnes from Coronation Street circa 1996? Because I confused him for my husband from behind on platform 7 (I remember it vividly) Bristol Temple Meads.
As a joke I rolled up a newspaper and shouted through the middle like a loudspeaker 'the train has landed stumpy' and Des turned round and said 'please I've been working all week all I want to do is enjoy my day off'. And then I had to explain I thought he was my husband but I couldn't get the words out and I called him ken Barlow.

My dad whacked Kenny Everett's car with his aluminium camera case. It wasn't a near miss for that but it was because he legged it when Kenny got out of the car.

A pub gardrn umbrella collapsed on my head years ago in front of Bill Tarney ( Jack Duckworth from Corrie).
He found it hilarious.

I bumped into Martin Johnson (ex Leicester rugby player) at kings cross station. I couldn't remember his name so just said....
" Good luck with the match....you!!!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣😀 I felt so bloody embarrassed 😳

Not Vernon Kay was it?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 02/10/2026 22:12

@ShakyBake- that’s made my day 😆

Not Vernon Kay was it?

Based on ‘principled’ I’d suggest not.

Sidebeforeself · 02/10/2026 22:18

I once nearly got run over as did the bloke next to me and when I looked at him I realised it was Zak Dingle from Emmerdale.

I also once got pulled onto a full tube by an actress from Howard’s Way.

… I know you are all reeling from these stories of A list celebs but please don’t press me for further details

MurphysColeslaw · 02/10/2026 22:18

I ran over Kenneth Cranham’s foot with my pram in M&S many years ago.
He was very gracious.

Oh and I nearly ran over someone who was in Coronation street many years ago.
I’ll have to google her as I can’t remember her name, she was a villain though iirc.

mychildiswild · 02/10/2026 22:22

Met jade goody at alton towers about 20 years ago and her boys were still in buggies !
Was at the same party as Darren from hollyoaks 🤣

murasaki · 02/10/2026 22:22

Both foot related, oddly.

When I was 12, I went to my first ever concert with my friends and before our parents collected us, we went to the stage door to get an autograph. It was Chris Isaak, of Wicked Game fame. He accidentally stood on my toe, and was so apologetic and lovely.

As a student, we used to revise and sunbathe on the grass in College. Stephen Hawking ran over my foot in his chair. He did not apologise, nor did his nurse, and it bloody hurt.

BiscoffCheesecakeAndCream · 02/10/2026 22:25

@murasaki Chris Isaak is hot!

I got sent flying by a guy from Brookside who was being hounded by a group of girls.
I might have to google him too. Bit of a heartthrob at the time.

Passenger in a car and driver forgot to look both ways at a junction, they were a fag paper away from t-boning BTCC race driver Matt Neal, thankfully Matt slammed the brakes on.

Also once sat a the next table along from actor Margi Clarke in Dobbies next to Newcastle airport. (coronation street's Tyrones first Mother before they messed up his lineage). She was trying to be aĺl incognito with a baseball but it just make her look weird and everyone was staring at her 😆.

Jerry Hall sat on the pew next to me at my church in Glastonbury. Before I realised who it was, the first thing that drew my eye was the beautiful quality of het tweed jacket.

Snogged someone during Euros 1996?? I was not quite an adult, he should've known better, but my memory is that he was a gentleman

Chesney Hawkes asked me to dance with him at a club, I turned him down until my DH whispered in my ear who it was (the bugger had asked him to approach me) on his third ask I obliged 😂
