Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Do you remember Des Barnes from Coronation Street circa 1996? Because I confused him for my husband from behind on platform 7 (I remember it vividly) Bristol Temple Meads.
As a joke I rolled up a newspaper and shouted through the middle like a loudspeaker 'the train has landed stumpy' and Des turned round and said 'please I've been working all week all I want to do is enjoy my day off'. And then I had to explain I thought he was my husband but I couldn't get the words out and I called him ken Barlow.

That’s very funny 😂.

I snogged a 17 yr old Trevor Sinclair (disgraced former footballer and TV pundit) many years ago in a Blackpool nightclub. He had just been signed by Blackpool and was living with ’houseparents’ because he was young. I think he was desperately lonely. He sent me roses at work, but I didn’t see him again because I was 23 (I only found out his age when we chatted afterwards 😬).

We were in the Toby Jug pub in Tolworth (it’s not there any more) and watched and chatted with Rossi and Parfitt who turned up to use their back room to practise for their new European tour. They were really nice guys.

I would see Barbara Windsor around Marylebone quite frequently she was always so friendly to people stopping her a lovely woman.

I worked at MTV as a student so would regularly see celebrities passing through. I would then see them out of context on the street and be really confused about where I knew them from. Unbeknown to me Madness was one of those, I was in Dublin Castle one mid week evening and stood next to a man, kept double taking him thinking he was one of my lecturers, decided he was my philosophy lecturer and launched into a chat about that only for it to dawn who he was. He took it very gracious in rebuking me.

I have quite a few stories around this era but actually being damaged by a celebrity Amanda Holden opened a cab door onto me and rather than acknowledge that carried on shouting at Les Denis. My bag ended up caught on the cab trying to get past them and I dropped it on the floor. He helped me pick up my things and was very apologetic, she just stood there in my way. Not the person she appears to be now

I used to love the Dublin Castle and actually saw Madness actually play there many moons ago before they were really famous. They were good times

I went to the same primary school as Keith Moons dd and he gave me a lift once when we got caught in a downpour. In a Rolls!

I bumped into Michael Cane (literally) coming out of a pub in London.

I was standing next to Andrew Ridgely at a BBQ and we made small talk about the spread.

My grandfather was presented to our late Queen and I was standing behind him about 6ft away.

Princess Anne came to our County Show and she smiled at me.

I babysat for over 12 years for the DGC of a very distinguished family. Sir and Lady no less. And met loads of their friends who, whilst not being 'clebs' are definitely household names.

And finally. I won a competition and was flown to London, picked up by limo and spent 5 glorious hours with GOK WAN!! He was absolutely charming and funny!

When I was a child me and some other children were very gently and kindly told off by Derek Guyler who had nearly run us over in his car. He kept pausing and smiling expecting us to say something about recognising him but we were too shy to say anything.

I once saw Joe Strummer in Kensington Market. I was passing him on the stairs and when he saw the look of recognition on my face he sharply turned away in order to avoid eye contact. He was shorter than I expected.

Briefly saw Donald Sutherland at Heathrow airport.

I was once stood next to Jane Asher when she was seated on the tube. Really hard not to stare.

I saw Sophie Raworth at Parkrun and then another time on the tube. I nearly approached her on the tube having seen her at Parkrun but just stopped myself.

I also met and talked to Helen Baxendale at Parkrun. She was very nice and chatty.

Saw Ben Miller at Parkrun once. He had a face like a smacked arse.

Cliff Richard was a passenger on our cruise earlier this year in the Caribbean

I saw Benedict Cumberbatch's wife driving him near us once. He had a little dog on his lap.

I was MOST excited. I had DS1 with me who is a Marvel fan and we walked around the block hoping we'd see them again. (Sad alert).

Worked in a London prison and had a few footballers from Arsenal & other prestigious clubs come for a look around to and see the gym do some coaching on football field .
Can't name them all as not a football fan but do remember Ian Wright the footballer / pundit .
Also had other known names in there but won't name as they were the ones that had
" holidays " there !

My first job out of uni was working at a well known London listings magazine. Collecting my post from reception one morning I admired the new artwork installation - there’d been some debate about it not being a picture but more a sculpture. I stood back observing it, two lads sitting on the sofa presumably waiting for their interview/photo shoot decided to stand up next to me and we discussed the new artwork. Strange looking twins in army looking clothes.. proper northern charm. Anyway we had a laugh about this art and then I got back in the lift up to my desk. I mentioned I’d seen the new artwork and had a discussion with these twins downstairs in reception, everyone around me jumped up! There here - who, who’s here 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s was Liam and Noel (way back just as they were becoming famous).. I had no clue as not my type of music at the time lol. They were on the front cover the following week..

Oh I've just recalled a few others!

I saw Michael Gambon in Hampstead once when I was shopping for FIL. He was in a bright purple suit and was talking with a very small boy and paying him very courteous attention. I also saw Pete Postlethwaite- also (I think) in Hampstead. He was outside a pub and was dressed like a tramp. But The Usual Suspects is my favourite film of all time so i recognised him anyway.

I was once at a party with Sir Robin Knox Johnston and trying to make small talk asked him what it was he did as a job. Blush. He was utterly charming about it.

I also shook hands with Prince Henrik from Denmark- that was at a cocktail party I was a plus one for. He actually hurt my hand as his grip was very strong.

Princess Anne tripped over my legs at Gatcombe Horse Trials.

Andrew Lloyd Webber wished my parents a happy anniversary as he bumped into us as he was coming out of a house. They were walking past with an armful of anniversary gifts.

I literally walked into Mohammed Al Fayed in Harrods. Didn’t notice who he was at first and just mumbled a generic “sorry”. My then boyfriend pointed out that in my oblivion I had somehow managed to walk straight through the security guards flanking him. Luckily they can’t have seen teenage me as much of a threat. (More the other way round, in hindsight).

MyOtherProfile · Yesterday 08:03

Love threads like this when they come up, especially when everyone (apart from the OP!) actually names the person they bumped into. What's the point if you don't name them?

I did the whol "Sorry, I know I know you but can't remember where from" thing with a guy at a gig. Turns out he was Joe McFadden and we had just watched him win strictly not long before so I really should have known who he was.

Lots. One I’ve never told until now, though.

1981 New Years Eve. A grotty pub piss-up in a small, unremarkable, town in the south west. The kind of town where everyone knows everyone else but you don’t necessarily mix with each group. I was 15. Different times, then. I looked older, but was still naive.

Someone I vaguely knew from a couple of years above me at school came in and, for some reason, joined the group I was with.

Accompanying him was a gorgeous, exotic guy. Exotic, because he was most definitely not local. Yes, it was a local town for local people!

Somehow, I ‘got off’ with him. Lots of snogging. He walked me home - which was far. He wanted more, of course. So, I told him I was 15… he scarpered. Politely.

A couple of months later, I turned on Top of The Pops, as was the religion of the times, and there he was 😳

He’d told me his name was John Taylor.
He lied! He was called Simon Le Bon.

I've still no clue how he was mates with someone from that school!

We had RKJ at our yacht club opening a new area - he is a gem of a man- delightful. He was so nice to everyone that was present. In school we also had
“Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes,” or Ranulph as we were told to call him at the time - he could tell some serious stories. It’s a shame there’s so much confusion about where he is and how he’s being looked after at the moment

I saw Tricky being accosted and asked to listen to some young kid’s music. He was so attentive, so genuine in his praise and encouragement it was delightful!

Norman Wisdom came and ate pudding with my gran and danced around the table. They were both in their elder years. He was brilliant.

I was sitting next to the fabulous James Nelson Joyce yesterday at the airport. Love him in “This City is Ours”

I met John Travolta on a plane from Dublin to New York in 1987. I was 21 and going to work as a nanny in New York I was sitting next to him and we chatted a lot when I told the people I was going to work for about meeting him they were more excited than I was

I've encountered a few over the years! Some I didn't know who they were and whoever I was with had to tell me!

All of 'Take That' - I just 'froze' on that occasion 😂

Jermain Defoe - Footballer - No idea! Still wouldn't recognise him now. My friend knew who he was and was livid that I didn't know him.

Theo Walcott - Footballer - Same. I remember my friend becoming all flustered! No idea who he is. Again, I wouldn't recognise him.

Princess Anne - Lovely women.

Prince Charles - (As he was then).

At different times I've seen a few people shopping in John Lewis Department Store but I only know their characters names not their real names.
Bev from Brookside.
Audrey from Coronation Street.
Heather from Brookside.

I've also seen Claire Sweeney out shopping. Another lovely person.

Eric Bristow - Darts Player.

John Virgo - Snooker. Probably one of the most down to earth people I've met.

Brendan Cole from Strictly. He ran into a pizza place.

Bananarama - They were a little 'frosty'.

There are more I'm sure.

My next door neighbours have sold their house. They are in their 70s. We assumed a retired couple bought it. Or a family. It's ten bed.We found out yesterday it's someone famous. Like you'd have heard of them Insta verified famous and followed by lots of other famous people famous . They are 30s and single. They move in next week. I don't think they will be there much as they have multiple homes

due to the way the houses are laid out we have shared amenities. So need to agree stuff and work together.

I'm completely bemused by it. Of all the guesses we made... This wasn't one of them...

I used to date one, so met lots of people.

However on a recent trip to Canada I met Connor Storrie, he touched me (not in a dodgy manner), so life will never be the same again. My current husband is panicking that I’ll do everything in my power to replace him with Connor Storrie, he is right to worry 🤣

Went to an art exhibition in 2012 of art by Olympians. I was asked if I had signed the visitor book. Realised shortly afterwards it was Bob Beamon the 1968 long jump gold medalist and still record holder 58 years on.
