Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Sat next to the Gallagher brothers at an England away game. They were actually fine though we did lose so they were in a bit of a decline by the end.

Chesney Hawkes asked me to dance with him at a club, I turned him down until my DH whispered in my ear who it was (the bugger had asked him to approach me) on his third ask I obliged 😂

He's aged well hasn't he?

When I lived and worked in London in the late 80's, I very nearly hit Richard Branson as he was dodging traffic trying to cross Regent St. Luckily he had very quick reflexes and managed to neatly step aside whilst giving me a huge smile and a wave!

Another time I came out of a meeting in Soho Square to find my car had been clamped. I was fuming as I was already short of time to get to my next meeting where my boss and our client were waiting for me for a long awaited contract signing . Panicking, I managed to make quite an exhibition of myself by kneeling beside the wheel and trying to wrestle the wretched yellow thing off whilst dressed in a business suit (skirt) and heels. Guy came out of the agency that I'd just left, saw me grubbing about on the pavement and came over to offer me a lift to the payment office at Marble Arch as he was going that way and to wait while he got his car. He arrived back in a Rolls Royce and I got into the car trying to recover my cool and look nonchalant. As we drove up Oxford Street chatting, I suddenly realized who I was sitting next to - It was David Bailey, the photographer! He was very charming and his kindness actually saved my professional bacon that day as the clamp was removed quickly and I was on time for the meeting by a whisker!

Brilliant @Fartughtyred !

With it being over 30 years ago as well as life being nowhere near as interesting now, I had forgotten about it and it was the words 'celebrity' and 'near miss' that reminded me that I nearly ran over Richard Branson!

I think mine was more celebrity He Shouldn't Be Kissing Me but I'm loving all these answers! Ken Barlow and Chesney Hawkes, Kenny Everett and Richard Branson!😊

I drunkenly met Cherry Healy at a bar once, we did some shots together, and then headed to the dance floor. I kept telling her she looked familiar but I couldn’t quite place her. We took a few selfies and it was only when I looked at them sober the next day that I was like ooooh my gosh. In hindsight, I’m glad I wasn’t a starstruck weirdo at the time and she managed to have a laugh with a stranger 😅

BiscoffCheesecakeAndCream · 02/10/2026 23:38

@MyWildOliveGoose I've not seen her on TV for a while.

@MyWildOliveGoose I've not seen her on TV for a while.

It was actually in 2020, the night Caroline Flack passed because I remember us seeing the news and her very quickly leaving. Long time ago.

JoyousWriter · 02/10/2026 23:44

I've had Robert Plant over the bonnet of my car. *

Do you remember Des Barnes from Coronation Street circa 1996? Because I confused him for my husband from behind on platform 7 (I remember it vividly) Bristol Temple Meads.
As a joke I rolled up a newspaper and shouted through the middle like a loudspeaker 'the train has landed stumpy' and Des turned round and said 'please I've been working all week all I want to do is enjoy my day off'. And then I had to explain I thought he was my husband but I couldn't get the words out and I called him ken Barlow.

Hang on, the weird bit of this is that you call your husband ‘Stumpy’??

I met Barbara Windsor in Central London some years ago. We crossed the road side by side, and I thought "omg, it's her". Then I asked her if she was Barbara Windsor, (I mean, it was so obvious it was!) and she said yes, and we chatted for 15 minutes. She was beyond lovely.

Also met Tamzin Outhwaite, the actor who played Martin Fowler (James Alexandrou), Ross Kemp, and a few more Eastenders actors.

I also partied with The Prodigy in the late 90s.

Coming from West London you run into a lot of TV celebs and singers.

Long time ago sat a few seats along from Joanna Lumley at a play and also in a queue behind her in a bank.

Was in a shop in N. London , also many years sgo, and looked round and there was Julie Christie.
Both women are very striking in real life.

Walked along Shaftesbury Ave and Michael Palin was coming the other way. He gave me a lovely friendly smile.

Also walked past Prince Edward in West End when he was in his twenties. He also smiled but his head was cocked at a very peculiar angle.

I would see Barbara Windsor around Marylebone quite frequently she was always so friendly to people stopping her a lovely woman.

I worked at MTV as a student so would regularly see celebrities passing through. I would then see them out of context on the street and be really confused about where I knew them from. Unbeknown to me Madness was one of those, I was in Dublin Castle one mid week evening and stood next to a man, kept double taking him thinking he was one of my lecturers, decided he was my philosophy lecturer and launched into a chat about that only for it to dawn who he was. He took it very gracious in rebuking me.

I have quite a few stories around this era but actually being damaged by a celebrity Amanda Holden opened a cab door onto me and rather than acknowledge that carried on shouting at Les Denis. My bag ended up caught on the cab trying to get past them and I dropped it on the floor. He helped me pick up my things and was very apologetic, she just stood there in my way. Not the person she appears to be now

Was on holiday last year driving around and this woman was blocking the path and when she realized we were about to run her over, she turned around and smiled, it was Sarah Jessica Parker. I’ve also met her husband Matthew Broderick.

“Man here” I went out and lived with a lady who also went out with him for a very long time.
in Goodge Street WC1E used to drink with Paul Heaton from the beautiful south - he is a lovely lovely man and he would record around the corner as we had offices on Tottenham Court Road.

We used to see Bill Nighy often and he was a true gentleman. Also spoke to Nigel Havers in Carphone Warehouse on Oxford street who told me not to buy a certain phone as it was bloody useless 😂

then back in Swansea used to spend a lot of time with Bonnie Tyler and Robert Pugh from game of thones and many other things.

Fell and broke my wrist right next to Adam Ant's tour bus in Boston a few weeks ago 😧

Many years ago I was in Flip in Covent Garden.
I was about 15. I approached and very originally told a man that he was Terry Hall. He said yes, now fuck off.
I've saw him performing 20+ times and always think back fondly to my brush with genius.
RIP Terry, you legend
