Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

Oh I can take back my previous comment! I know who these people are.. my DH was in this group.. I hope that’s not too outing 🤣🤣🤣 I just showed him your comment @LouH1981 🩷

Ah, hello! What are the chances! 😊
Well, we will truly be forever grateful to these guys for what they did. They were so very kind to our DS and they could have just turned a blind eye and headed out of the stadium.
One minute DS was sobbing in the services at Watford and the next minute he has the biggest smile I have ever seen. He tells people about it all the time!
They were absolute gentlemen and a true inspiration for the next generation of rugby players.
Please say a huge thank you (again) to your DH 😊

I noticed someone said they snogged someone from Mud. There are only two surviving members. I know of someone aged 15 who was approached by one of them at a gig after event and invited to a hotel room for a party. Turned out to be a party for two, and he answered the door in the nude.

Oh this is so funny. I really fancied him back in the day. What a knob saying that to you.

to be fair it was ridiculously early in the morning and having a complete stranger place a rolled up newspaper behind your ear and calling you Stumpy could have resulted in a much nastier reaction

AmazingMum2015 · 05/10/2026 21:24

OK, where do I start....

Used to serve Prince William in Woolworths when he was a student at Eton - he would come in every Saturday afternoon to buy pick n mix.

Daniel Craig rented a flat in the block opposite me when he was filming James Bond

Sue Holderness (Marlene from Only Fools and Horses) waxed my ex bosses back for charity

Spent the night with the guy who played drums for Darius!

When I worked at Legoland, there were always celebs. The one I remember most is Boris Johnson. I let him on Pirate Falls! Also height checked one of the Beckham kids.

Other random celebs I've bumped into around my home town - Natalie Imbruglia, Lisa Scott-Lee, Kris Marshall, John Snow, Terry Wogan. I'm sure there is more!

The trainers were ex marines, and very unimpressed by people with no discernable talent who thought too much of themselves . One went and basically asked her what the fuck she thought she was playing at, there was a teenage girl who was being seriously bullied for her weight in the room next to her. She had begged her parents and they had signed up for 6 weeks to try and totally change her life . She was in about week 3 and doing amazingly but trust me, at this stage, whilst you love the results, you would also consider committing quite serious crime for one bite of a burger. I'm not remotely joking, the cravings have taken over every part of you. Mentally and physically it's horrendous. And there's this twat ordering pizzas for herself in the room next door. The marine didn't mince his words, about the level of disrespect she was showing to the rest of the camp and what he thought of her. She laughed in his face, assuming he must be joking as no one would ever dare speak like that to someone like her, being the A lister she thinks she is. When she saw everyone looking at her like she was a piece of work, suddenly she was the victim in it all, shouting on the phone to her agent, then fled under cover of darkness.

Good riddance.

wow what a nasty piece of work

Howaboutthis1 · 06/10/2026 06:58

I remember another.
Standing in the security queue in LA behind Daniel Craig, pre James Bond.
On a plane with NZ rugby team ( I had no idea) my DH was more impressed seeing them come through the doors than me. Charming.

wontsomeonethinkofthechimdren · 06/10/2026 07:27

About twenty five years ago David Beckham was behind me in the queue for M&S checkouts at Handforth Dean. I only realised when I started to wonder why everyone was staring at me. Anyway I got in a right fluster trying to pack up my shopping and clear the way.

lavendersweetly · 06/10/2026 12:29

My partner and I met Reece Shearsmith & Steve Pemberton at the stage door of the Wyndham's Theatre last year at their play, Stage/Fright. We are huge fans of their work and I was super starstruck, so when they came up to us, I just made an absolute tit of myself and loudly told Steve that I'm a huge fan of everything he's ever been in and just stood there and reeled off a list of everything he's done on TV. I look back on it and CRINGE.
They were wonderfully kind though, great bunch of blokes. It's up there with one of my best life experiences lmao.

BiscoffCheesecakeAndCream · 06/10/2026 13:49

@lavendersweetly I met Steve at his daughter's graduation ceremony. Though I recognised him I couldn't work out where from at first. It was only when his daughter's name was read out and she walked over to her parents that it clicked.

I queued behind Romesh Ranganathan for a ride 2 or 3 years ago, the queue was over an hour. When I told DS afterwards who he was, he said I should have spoken to him, but he was there with his kids and it wouldn't have been right to draw attention to him. DS doesn't know who he is though, but remembers him as "the dad with the Transformer tattoo". Through work I've met a fair few celebs but I never bring it up with them, I just wanted them to have a pleasant day.

Laughingravy · 06/10/2026 14:42

I don't count the ones I've met through work - though I did barge through some swing doors at Granada TV once and poleaxe Bob Monkhouse, who apologised. Funny thing is a couple of years later I was with a friend in Belfast and they did pretty much the same thing to Frank Carson in the Europa Hotel.

As for happenstance meetings I sat opposite actress Ruth Gemmell on a train to Manchester and chatted about why were stopped. I met Lemmy on a tube train and had a brief natter (big rock fan). During one of my two visits to the Hacienda (not my scene) our gang sat in the Gay Traitor bar opposite the Smiths - we all tried to act cool and unimpressed, except one of us who persisted in pointing and hissing out of the side of his mouth like we hadn't noticed.
And when that Icelandic volcano stopped all flights over Europe I encountered the whole Manchester City squad and coaching staff at Stockport station heading for a London bound train. I guess getting on at Stockport would be less of a fuss than Piccadilly. Poor dears slumming it on a train.

I used to see Brian Clough sometimes in passing.

We lived on the same estate as Brian Clough. He used to come to our primary school to give presentations or something to do with football. (I never paid attention, as football is of no interest to me, although we all knew who he was, from the television.)

BiscoffCheesecakeAndCream · 06/10/2026 16:15

I also saw Lesley Garrett at a graduation ceremony and found out we shared a birthday (but not a year).

Funnily enough I came across the bloke from the OP yesterday on YouTube, watched it, and YouTube served me up some more, which I haven't watched.

Brian Clough had a moody face but a heart of gold. A sweetie.

Lomonald · 06/10/2026 16:43

The late Alan Longmuir (Bay city rollers) lived in my village you would see him going around, only people of a certain age will know who he was though.

A truly good man.

Many years ago driving along a country road past a luxurious health spa known for celeb rehab/retreats I saw George Best walking determinedly along the narrow grass verge (no pavement) towards the nearest village. The spa had acres of private woods and grounds in which to go for a walk so sadly I suspect he was heading for the nearest pub.

Another one I forgot to add earlier, back to the early 80’s and I was coming home with my then bf from a night out, we walked past the local train station and it was all highly lit up with floodlight type lights. We stopped to see what was going on and it was a band recording a video. We approached this young guy standing around and he told us it was a pop video. I asked him who he was and it was Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode and they were filming the video for ‘See You’ which got to number 6 in the charts.

My 13 year old self is soooooo jealous of you. My current self is too!

doubt they would be able to afford the train fares now!

My Dad used to work for the Beckhams, not a fan of either but did like most of the other spice girls. Was very jealous of Brooklyn who was a similar age to me.

Whatthefork1 · 08/10/2026 07:15

Mines not very interesting… I served John Craven (country file host) at the restaurant I used to work in.
I used to go to the same primary school as Robert Plants son and my friend actually had a sleep over at their house the once.

TheGhostOfYouAndMe · 08/10/2026 07:52

Ricky Groves (Gary from EastEnders) and his then-wife Hannah Waterman used to live in a village just outside our smallish town.
One night, I was leaving our local nightclub when I spotted Ricky outside, complete with sunglasses on (at night, obviously 😂), trying to convince the bouncers to let him in.
The bouncers were having absolutely none of it, but I distinctly remember hearing the words, “But mate, it’s me, I’m in EastEnders!” while he lifted his sunglasses up to reveal his face, as though that would magically change their minds. 🤣
It didn’t. The bouncers still wouldn’t let him in.
To this day, the image of Gary from EastEnders standing outside our local nightclub in sunglasses, trying to pull the celebrity card, still makes me laugh. 😂

I've just remembered when I was a little kid my dad was taking me to the Natural history museum & we saw Tom Baker in South Kensington weaving up the road drunk & calling out random nonsense. My Dad shouted "shut up you stupid c*nt"! I was very embarrassed and told dad off; " Shhhhsh, Da...aad! That's DR.WHO"! Dad muttered; "Never mind about that, he's a stupid effin' b is what he is"! Tom Baker seemed oblivious to it all.
