I believe the 0.7% figure includes those with settled status (leave to remain). If it was only the people recently arriving by boat**/ those whose claims were still being processed it would be much much lower. You have a point about the Ukrainian refugees, I have a feeling that scheme doesn't count under the same statistics but they are a small numberncomparatove to the size of the UK and besides at least according to many here an example of the right kind of refugee who came here legally.

I know people who have issues with the small boat arrivals so I don't think it's unreasonable not to like that it's happening. But the idea that we are being flooded by irregular immigration or outnumbered by the arrivals isn't born out by the maths. Neither is the country being pushed to the brink of civil war/losing national unity and culture because of those numbers.
If there are legitimate concerns then I would have thought it more productive/convincing to share them. But instead it's very clearly falsehoods which in turn makes disagreeing feel like arguing with a straw man and ignoring real concerns.

It starts if being about the small boat arrivals "no problem with the people who came here legally" but then shifts into a discussion about how overrun we are.that uses much more general statistics (as I said above the numbers of refugees is less than 1% of the population)

Elsewhere people like SYL will be talking about how their problem is Islamism not racebut as soon as a Sikh does something wrong suddenly Sikhs are the bad guys too.

The opening post references the idea that migrants have been given special treatment (a police escort). But when it was clearly not for migrants but for (UK tax paying) bus drivers, then that's still a problem. So protecting British people doing their jobs is also bad if the job is seen as connected to migration.

It's interesting how many of the anti migrant supporters invented rubbish, or misrepresent information.
