Small boat arrivals at Gosport tonight - huge police motorcade

This is the police escort for the latest small boat arrivals at Gosport tonight.

What on earth is going on with this country?

I don’t know how to link a video from Twitter. The videos show the full extent of the operation.

Those Barristers will elevate themselves as some grand saviours. In reality, they are antisemitic filth, whose only loyalty lies with their bank accounts.

I don’t think that’s the case. The Aus navy were involved in stopping small boats. They didn’t do what you suggest.

I think the difference is that Australia could push the boats out of Australian waters and into international waters without being accused of invading another country's territory, whereas there is no international water between e.g. Dover and Calais.

I suppose you could push the dinghy along into a wider part of the channel, but you are still operating in a very busy shipping lane.

If it were straightforward to copy the Australian strategy, would the Conservatives not have done so?

Ok, so how were the Aus navy involved in "stopping boats" and how do you suggest the UK navy copies them? Ideally if that doesn't involve invading sovereign countries as a side effect it would help. Also, to me if the likely direct result of the navies suggested actions would be drowning/sinking boats then wanting them to take that action is colloquially the equivalent of wanting them to sink boats.

They managed to do it without sinking boats as you suggested. And yes they did stop no “ air quotes “ required.

Although before the policy many unsafe vessels did sink trying to make it, not unlike the Med crossings and Channel ones too.

The deaths at sea are due to the asylum system that relies on very unsafe vessels and overcrowding.

There's no middle ground tbh between two sets of people. It's gone too far for that. It's going to be everyone out for themselves and their families in the near future. Unity has gone and that's hard to pinpoint exactly how and when that occurred.

Whereas some of us have more faith in Britain.

Because of 0.7% of the population being refugees?
Because of wider issues around other types of migration?
Because of other issues?

I am not sure what "Unity" entails- if it's some Borg like thing I'm not sure we ever had that but generally people where I live seem to rub along together pretty well (regardless of political viewpoint.) Give or take the occasional areshole but twas ever thus.
Unless Unity is a cat. In which case probably be back in a few days or worst case hit by a car

I actually cannot believe that people are equating concerns with the mass immigration of undocumented unknown young men, to what hitler did. Torturing starving experimenting on 6million Jewish people to death, for being Jewish.

Beyond belief but shows us just who they are.

It's absolutely fucking disgusting isn't it?

inamarina · Today 17:04

WeAreNumpties · Today 16:08

For all those banging on about young men coming across first. This is exactly what happened with my legal immigrant family. The men came across first so that they could find stable work and a place to live, then their wives and children followed. It was a very hard time for them, my grandmother actually came across before her child (who stayed with his grandparents in their home country) because she wanted to make sure things were ok for him to come here, she missed him desperately. It's a very natural and understandable thing.

If your family members came over legally, it must have been on some sort of work visa?
It’s not the same as rocking up somewhere, claiming that your country of origin is too dangerous for you, yet somehow not for the women and children left behind.

It’s utterly abhorrent.

What a way to try to shut down people.

Shameful.

In what way?

From what you say you think the near future will be a cross between the Walking Dead and Threads. I think British civilisation is a little more resilient.

Yes I take your point on unity. Like the cat reference!

I hope so. Thank you for clarifying.

I think most people want the boats to stop. But not everyone thinks the people in those boats are going to drag us from our beds and rape and kill us or replace us so our young people can be sent Ukraine etc.

Do you want the boats to stop?

If so, why do you want them to stop?

5MinuteArgument · Today 17:08

Before I moved to where I am now I lived for several decades in one of the most deprived areas of London with a large immigrant population. It was great and I still miss it.

Ah yes, 'I used to live in an area with a large immigrant population. It was so great, I upped and moved.' I hear this a lot from the open borders lobby. Waxing lyrical about the great multicultural neighbourhood they used to live in. And there's always so so many reasons why they left.

If these men are arriving to seek better women’s rights for their sisters and daughters (personally I feel this is probably not the top motivation, but just for the sake of argument ) wouldn’t it be better for them to campaign for better women’s rights in their own countries? As this would improve the lives of many more women?

You mean like appeal to the Taliban's better nature?
Something like that?
Maybe a few placards.
😕

inamarina · Today 17:11

EasternStandard · Today 16:12

Exactly. The receiving country can still say no. They have to agree.

Yes, and they seem to be saying ‘no’ quite a lot.
And even when they say ‘yes’, like in one case a few years ago, when Germany tried to send a Syrian migrant back to Bulgaria and Bulgaria had agreed, the migrant in question simply absconded for a while and could’t be deported (and later carried out a mass stabbing at a festival in the German city of Solingen, killing three people).

It’s unlikely women and girls will make it out with the current system.

So awfully sad.

This small boats crisis needs to end, winter is coming and the weather will get extremely hazardous for crossings. We need to start processing the refugees at Calais and bringing them over safely on Royal Navy ships. On the journey we can ascertain who they are and assign them to different wards up and down the country to spread them out efficiently and evenly, so that no one place is burdened too heavily.

We also need to start investing in creating new towns and cities in the Northwest in Cumbria and Northumberland in the Northeast to deal with the flow. The climate crisis is only going to fuel a bigger need for sanctuary and we need to be amongst the primary nations to do our part.

EasternStandard · Today 17:26

On what the majority want in a few posts below I think Piddington does align with many places in terms of what the reaction would be. They too said people welcome until faced with barracks.

A few people might say they’d be welcoming but the majority probably would say no thanks when faced with 1000 plus men waiting for asylum nearby.

No, I don’t agree with this at all.

Remove the incentives.

Do you live near asylum seekers?
