This is the police escort for the latest small boat arrivals at Gosport tonight.

What on earth is going on with this country?

I don’t know how to link a video from Twitter. The videos show the full extent of the operation.

I’m about the furthest from a conspiracy theorist as humanly possible…., however even I’m starting to wonder if the government are getting some secret deal and/or humongous backhanded payment out of this. A sodding motorcade?!?! I don’t think even Andy Burnham gets that!

Yet our NHS is struggling and needs more funding. And don’t get me started on defence.

But there’s money to protect illegals entering the country and then we will be housing them and generally looking after them.

There’s something seriously wrong here.

Maybe if our upstanding citizens could behave like humans rather than animals the police wouldn’t need to be there. But when we are required to close lifeboat stations because of horrendous thugs the police are going to need to do all sorts of protection work that should be completely unnecessary.

People who have crossed in small boats should be detained and processed properly. Such a shame that police protection is required in order for immigration officials to carry out their duties.

The size, expense and amount of prep planning going on here is incredible. Someone on Twitter said it’s bigger than the police escorts he’s seen when nuclear weapons are transported.

Imagine if all this money and manpower was put into stopping the boats?

Yes, that’s exactly where the money should go.

Think you are missing the point ...

No idea why you think ordinary people protesting makes them “like animals”. They are concerned people worried about what is happening to their country and worried that the government is doing nothing to stop boatloads of young undocumented men from cultures completely different to our own arriving.

No need to use dehumanising language.

Lots of people try very very hard to miss the point and pretend it’s all completely normal to have thousands upon thousands of young men arriving on our shores.

Rubbish. The RNLI have been targeted, even boats slashed, by thugs. It’s perfectly legitimate for police to respond to highly coordinated criminal activity. Unfortunately there are many who would like to see societal breakdown and promote these right wing conspirancies. Radicalised by Facebook.

'Ordinary people' who were (in Portsmouth) all men, dressed in black with black balaclavas. Like something out of a dystopian nightmare. Of course the police have a duty to prevent violent disorder, it's their job.

They do blue light police training near there. So it could well just be that -literally escort driving practice.
It could also be an escort for something completely unrelated to migrants.
Or it could be for the migrants. In which case there seems to be some uncertainty on Facebook/X over whether it's "for the migrants" or for the coaches that were meant to be for the migrants but the brave protesters succeeded in stopping them being brought ashore there. (In which case why would they need escorts for the coaches. Surely noone was going to attack the.drivers?)

The sheer irony when a lot of these "protesters" you are defending would and do dehumanise people on the boats daily.

Imagine if the police and RNLI were allowed to get on with their jobs of escorting those immigrants to the processing centres without having to put all those extra resources into herding protesters, including children who want to drown them.

I don’t condone violent disorder for a minute, but I wonder what the government expected to happen? A majority of voters have consistently supported tighter immigration controls and restrictions for decades, and have been stubbornly ignored by successive governments. That fuels the conspiracies, the nutters in black and fuck knows what else.

How about the RNLI and Border Police get on with doing their job and escort these refugees to safety and a procesasing centre

To the other poster who said that it was about the protesters, no it’s not. You don’t need the equivalent of a royal motorcade - actually bigger than that - escorting the coaches to deal with the protesters. There is a wall of police dealing with the protesters that’s entirely separate to the motorcade.

@smallglassbottle this problem pre-dates Ukraine and Russia by long way. Do you think other European countries are doing the same thing? Because they’re all having the same situation.

It’s the coaches to pick up the “illegal immigrants” with police escorts used. As I understand it the boats were originally planned to land at Gosport but will now be landing elsewhere because of protestors.

The government IS trying to stop the boats, of course.

Do they? Or do they just not want endless boat loads of young men arriving from cultures with completely different attitudes to women?
