I'm happy with people who come lawfully and with documentation so we know who they are and where they have come from. But we also have a lot of unemployment so do we actually need immigration at all? There will be a few specific jobs and careers such as caring but for the rest people can be trained. But employers are too lazy and all they see is profit. They don't want to waste money training people when they can import them from overseas.

I had a bet with myself that someone would say that. Put it this way, if I won the lottery and my DH made a miraculous recovery from his incurable illness we'd go back tomorrow. I ❤️ London. Please don't dismiss knowledge of statistical analysis as if it does not matter in understanding a problem. Please don't take my doubt as a dismissal of rational concerns about the quantity and type of immigration that would be good for the country. I think that poorly managed large scale immigration is causing problems, (7% of the UK population since 2010, with the increase in UK population attributable to small boats being about 0.3%). My concerns are economic, not cultural. I enjoy cultural diversity. From here in Croydon where my nearest neighbours are from Morocco, Pakistan, Lebanon, Poland, and Ghana (all working, and I presume paying tax), I see no threat to my British way of life.

It's not even as though we believe every asylum seeker is a threat. It's the unknown that are making their way here and we feel helpless. Yes, I'm happy to admit it scares me but it doesn't pose a threat to me like it does for women and girls who live in affected areas. Piddington have had the wake up call that they never saw coming.
