The local elections stuff is typical Labour. Hopeless and power hungry.

Guido Fawkes has an interesting report this morning about how sanctions on Israel, because of settlements, are a stunt and are being described as “largely symbolic” to the Americans. You don’t have to take that report alone, because it also quotes McFadden as saying publicly that Israel remains “a really important trading partner”.

This is yet more confirmation that Burnham is pulling the wool over the eyes of left wingers in his party and the Greens.

There’s also a thread about how last month Burnham started talking about a written constitution, which he thinks is related to having more mayors, apparently.

He’s quite shameless in the way he misleads the left with his bullshit talk and promises. Why any of them believe his drivel is a mystery. The only answer can be that as a mass they’re very stupid indeed and very easily led.

Reporting that the 3rd largest tax payer is leaving the UK.

As Dan Neidle says in the article, Rokos’s personal tax payment is more than some individual taxes raise across the whole country.

There was a thread about cuts v tax rises the other day. The delusional wishful thinking of the tax and spend left is a wonder to behold.

‘Competitive and stable tax system’ - as the budget tax rise speculation mounts. Who are they kidding other than themselves.

They won’t reconsider. So depressing. That and the other tax just shutting schools.

I saw a post about this on Reddit. They were all whining that he was greedy not to want to pay up, and ungrateful to the UK.
Firstly he didn't say why he was leaving, and secondly that's lost tax revenue regardless.

I've noticed a couple of threads about paying cash to trades people etc. lots of frothing, righteous indignation. Frankly I don't bloody care if they want cash for whatever reason I'll pay it if asked.

Me too - it's none of my business. If I encounter an efficient, pleasant tradesman in the wild I'm not pissing him off!

It's such bad news for the UK to lose someone like that.

I don't blame him either. Probably getting ahead of possible wealth exit tax, which has been floated.

As well as the loss to the UK, I actually feel quite sad if he felt pushed to leave. £330million in tax per year is such a huge amount for him to have been giving the UK - in addition to donations. And still they want more.

Those threads are ridiculous. A) you don't know whether they're paying tax or not; and b) it's up to HMRC to police them, not me.

There were some measured posts about why cash may be preferred, but people were shouting them down.

We had some excellent blokes do our garden earlier this year. I paid the deposit into their bank (so, obvious they were doing work for me in their records) and the balance (about £1,800) in cash on completion of the work.

We'd definitely have them back to do more stuff, as they were efficient, great at their work, and tidied up after themselves.

I was listening to bit of an Andy Haldane (economist) interview who made sense on not taxing or borrowing more. Whether Labour listens I guess we’ll see.

We need to reduce spending and focus on growth. Growth = more tax receipts.

Absolutely this. We need to focus wholly and utterly on growth. Otherwise there is literally no money for anything and we will continue in this doom spiral on flat or negative growth. Borrowing becomes unaffordably expensive. Then this leads to civil unrest and fringe extremist parties gaining traction.

A terrible indicement of the UK gov. Here’s a self made maths genius - who also happens to employ over 350 of the best paid ppl in the uk. He pays huge amounts of taxes on his earnings in addition to those of his employees. Clearly he doesn’t want or trust the uk to spend his tax contributions wisely. IMO he just wants to skip the middleman and donate to those causes he considers important.
Andy Burnham shoould have got the top 10 tax payers in the uk into his office and asked them what we can do to keep you. We need their money - everyone is hugely worse off without these guys tax receipts.

Yup. Apparently a senior Green official was with Rokos the day he announced his move. In Greece bonuses and carry get taced at 5%.

Easy decision.

If the UK behaved this way, the left would be screaming that it is a stitch up and that every one is far too cozy. They would rather that we are all poor together. It’s their comfort zone. They don’t trust success and they don’t want it.

Until voters here understand how poor we have become, how much worse it’s heading, and have the confidence to engage in the political process like grownups, this trajectory will continue.

Politicians on the left use their personal identity more don’t they. Miliband writes in The Telegraph leading on who he is personally to refute the stance of the Chief Rabbi, who is concerned about antisemitism increasing.

It’s dismissive but also Kemi and Rishi and Conservatives don’t do this as Polanski and Miliband do. It seems to be a modern tactic of the left.
