Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

Gino Ginelli Mint ice cream, it had pieces of crunchy honeycomb in it and was amazing.

Also, Tesco used to do a frozen pizza with tuna and black olives that I still remember over 30 years later.

Years ago Heinz used to do small tins of potato salad and vegetable salad. I’ve searched and they are not to be found so think they are long gone 😢

Favouritefruits · 06/09/2026 17:12

Tesco had a nut roast that was amazing! I called head office once when it wasn’t on the shelf for a few weeks, they said it was just a supply issue but 20years later it’s still not back on the shelf!

Farmfoods used to sell microwave cheeseburgers. They were soo bad but they remind me of my student days when id rather spend my cash on going out then food. Would love to have one again

JugfullofRoses · 06/09/2026 17:14

Not me but DH and I can't remember which supermarket, but he used to love an apricot filled cake/pastry which I think was sold as a breakfast bar about 20 years ago. Vanished one day,
never to be seen again

M&S potato deltas. They were extremely salty triangular crisps things. Delicious!

I was going to say these!! The ultimate salty snack.

Have you tried the bold bean ones? Not tried their baked beans yet but the others in jars are rather good.

I'm a recent convert to Bold Beans, their chick peas and cannellini beans are so good I eat them out of the jar! I now buy them in bulk online otherwise it would cost a fortune.

You could get smoked oatcakes in Waitrose that were absolutely gorgeous. Probably just as well they've gone out of stock as I ate a lot.

But I'm frustrated I haven't found a suitable substitute for Meridian rich roast peanut butter, all the ones I have tried are way too salty for me.

My contribution is the M&S garlic mushroom thin and crispy pizza. My mum used to get invited to M&S ‘shopping evenings’ in store in the late 80s. She would take me and we’d share the pizza and a bottle of red wine when we got home. Good times.

Smiths cheese moments, I'd love to have another packet!

Shandy from supermarkets. None have it anymore.

rosydreams · 06/09/2026 17:31

i know what you mean waitrose used to sell super garlic croutons they were stanky but amazing

ForQuirkyFawn · 06/09/2026 17:56

Kwiksave, I know, used to sell tinned irish stew, it was dirt cheap and was the best hangover cure I ever found when I was a student...still miss it

Winniepoobear · 06/09/2026 18:04

Not supermarket but i really miss the Nestles Caramac bar ...

And Bassets Mint Creams ...

Why do manufacturers decide that they not gonna produce anymore!

MyUniqueRubyPoet · 06/09/2026 18:07

I so miss those Vesta Chow Mein, chicken supreme and beef curry dry packet based convenience meals by Batchelors. Really popular across Britain through the 1970s and 1980s. The chicken supreme was discontinued as was the beef curry years ago. Eventually Tesco stopped the Chow Mein a year or two ago. Whyyyy? Apparently Amazon then used to stock it but now can't find them anywhere!

Not a supermaket food but most used to sell it. The original version of All Bran , the "new recipe" is abysmal/unedible. Check the reviews on Tesco..

Seeing as M&S is featuring so much, they brought their prawn cocktail shells back recently and they are horrible, I don't know what they they removed i suspect salt !

Bought some recently, they were awful. They used to melt on your tongue but now they are all crispy and dry.

tupperwaretowers · 06/09/2026 18:23

British Home Stores did an awesome lemon chicken sandwich in the 1980’s, I still think fondly about it.

M&S used to do a sherry fruit trifle that had flakes almonds on top. My step dad would buy it every few months - it was heavenly

one thing I don’t miss is Tesco’s own brand margarine form the 80s. Massive blue and white tub and the margarine stank. We had that until she met step dad and introduced butter to us

I remember that trifle! It was so good.

CelticSilver · 06/09/2026 18:28

Tesco used to do a ready-made sandwich. A white roll, egg mayonnaise, smoked ham and sliced tomato. Absolute perfection.

Parrish · 06/09/2026 18:31

M&S prawn curry. Just the curry in the packet, No rice. Would love it to come back

Squeakymoo1 · 06/09/2026 18:33

Morrisons used to have honey nut branflakes. I live in hope they will bring them back. They also used to do honey nut peanut butter.

Tesco tinned chicken curry from 1988ish. It had raisins in. If I could taste that again I reckon it would be my madeleine equivalent, I'd be right back there in my tatty school uniform, eating from a plate on my lap in front of Neighbours. I know Tesco still does chicken curry but nothing like that one.

Haven't rtft to see if anyone else has suggested this but Homepride tinned chicken curry sauce has (or at least used to!) have the raisins in. Delicious!

Everythingsgroovy · 06/09/2026 18:35

I’m sure I remember M&S used to make a toffee popcorn that had nuts in it? maybe peanuts? Does anyone else remember that?

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/09/2026 18:38

Back in the 1990s M&S used to do a range of single-portion microwavable ready-meals for £1 each. There was one, a mild chicken curry with rice, that I loved. It was my Friday night treat for years!
