Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

Those frozen vanilla and strawberry mousse pots. Anyone else remember them?
@bugaboo218 on another thread someone said you were supposed to defrost those 😮

Have you tried the bold bean ones? Not tried their baked beans yet but the others in jars are rather good.

Thank you, I’ll give those a go.

Andsoitbeganagain · 06/09/2026 12:56

Two things, glamorgan sausages. All supermarkets. Where these go?

Chocolate tressella bars in M&s early 90s. Never found a better bar.

ChessieFL · 06/09/2026 13:00

Two sandwiches from M&S, from about 25 years ago.

The first was tuna melt - tuna mayo with little bits of red pepper, then a cheesy topping on top of the bread. Every time I’m in there I still look to see if they’ve brought it back.

The other was roast beef on onion flavoured white bread. Delicious.

Waitrose used to do a banana muffin with a passion fruit buttercream filling in their bakery section. That was lush and again I still check for it every time I go there.

Weetabix mini bites which were made with oats only. (I have a wheat allergy).

M&S briefly did a gf prawn cocktail sandwich which I truly miss.

Not a food item, but Vanish bars for stains. They were the best!

Yes, they were lovely. I'm ok with wheat so would also be happy with plain mini weetabix but they stopped doing those too.

I miss Tesco vegan smoked 'gouda'. It's the only half decent vegan cheese I ever found and was quite nice on crackers.

DanaScullysLegoHair · 06/09/2026 13:03

ASDA used to sell a box of 4 cheese and tomato pizzas you could put in the toaster. Don't ask me how that worked but the topping stayed on.

It was around the time I got my first flat and my then DP and I would have a couple of spliffs and eat those. Perfect stoner food 🤣

CatLady199 · 06/09/2026 13:06

Tinned Heinz sponge pudding
Toast toppers
Frozen chicken supreme (might have been Birds eye)

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/09/2026 13:07

Findus or Birdseye did a cheese and tomato frozen lasagne in the 90s.Epic.

UnimaginableWindBird · 06/09/2026 13:09

I loved Phineas Fogg Mignons Morceaux and was so sad when they were discontinued, but then Waitrose did an own- brand version a few years ago, but that has also been discontinued.

Also M&S mint chocolate truffle bars.

You can get a similar product at Sainsbury's and Waitrose. I put extra cheese on top before baking!

Thank you. Yes extra cheese definitely required! I was just annoyed yesterday as it was the 1 thing I needed in Lidl & I didn't have time to go anywhere else & potentially have more disappointment

Mydahliasareshit · 06/09/2026 13:16

Yes, why do mignon morceaux keep being discontinued? People loved them!

Also going back 30 years now M&S did lovely chicken breasts marinated in orange and garlic. Heaven 👌

bigbites · 06/09/2026 13:18

Batchelors mushroom and wine pasta sauce - I loved this and was gutted when it was discontinued. I loved the raspberry ripple mousse and couldn’t find any despite searching for ages until I came across some in farm foods! Also loved the Waitrose essentials Bacon & Leek quiche

HPFA · 06/09/2026 13:19

I miss sunflower spreads in general.

I like a spread which softens the bread but doesn't really taste of much in itself.

Tesco stopped their own brand years ago - there is a Pure version which Asda sell but only in their very large stores, of which there are none near me.

M&S cheese and celery sandwich. So simple but they were just perfect.

They still do them I had one yesterday my all time favourite sandwich

M+S caramel cake from the 80s - all it was was caramel sponge and buttercream. No frosting, no fudge pieces etc Just straightforward nice cake. Have not found a replacement.

Ross's potato crunchies
Findus minced beef crispy pancakes

Sainsbury's prawn and coriander spring rolls
Sainsbury's chicken makhana curry

All the above are from years ago but still gutted

Edited

Oh my, that Caramel Cake was absolutely delicious! I used to buy it all the time, I can still taste it. I've tried to recreate it but no luck

Rubydobydo · 06/09/2026 13:23

Liver sausage, that came in four inch plastic tubes, that was spreadable. We were talking about this last night - it’s discontinued.

Whatawickedgametochoose · 06/09/2026 13:24

Tesco used to do these lovely cappuccino cakes when I was a teenager so around 2000 they were round and marbled and were absolutely amazing. The coffee and walnut replacement is not a patch. I have spent so many hours trying to make a similar one but never quite got it

I regularly crave mushroom and wine pasta n sauce to this day! Theres a facebook campaign to bring it back, I live in hope but won’t hold my breath

Somersetbaker · 06/09/2026 13:27

With the notable exception of Morrisons, I miss the deli counter ( I just want 2 slices of ham not an enormous packet) and the fresh-fish counter. All supermarkets the paucity of the selection of dried pulses- lentils, cannellini beans and not much else, where are haricot beans, red kidney beans, aduki beans, emmer wheat etc etc?

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 06/09/2026 13:29

Waitrose until recently did a salted caramel chocolate torte which was delicious. Even the staff were surprised they discontinued it.

BarbarianBabs · 06/09/2026 13:30

German rye bread from Lidl. Or at least I’ve not been able to get hold of it in my local one for what seems like forever. I’ve not visited other ones

Lornaadoone · 06/09/2026 13:35

Lamb oxo cubes. I can’t find them anywhere.

whippersnapper55 · 06/09/2026 13:35

M&S spicy prawn linguine ready meal
M&S sandwich filler - poached salmon & dill
M&S crepe suzette
Morrisons rum & raisin choc ice

Whattheduck · 06/09/2026 13:37

Sainsbury’s used to do a dark chocolate bar with mint crisp pieces in it was so good I still look for it now to see if it’s made a come back

FancyKitten · 06/09/2026 13:45

I remember the taste of all the desserts & cakes I’ve ever eaten (a lot…). I really miss the hit of proper chocolate. And pick’n’mix. I’d buy a bag & settle down with Heat magazine.

Desserts & cakes I’d love to eat again -

M&S Mango Passionfruit mousse cakes
M&S Triple Chocolate Cheesecake
Sainsbury’s Cake Slice mixed flavours
Sara Lee Frozen Chocolate Gateau
Starbucks Blueberry muffin circa 2000
Ponti’s Cherry Cheesecake late 90s…
Various flavours Onken mousse pots
Safeway el cheapo Jam Tart variety
Tesco Almond Croissant circa 2000

I could describe the eras of my life in cake!
