Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

The M&S syrup sponge dessert. An individual pot of sponge, syrup, custard and whipped cream.

I'd being buying that dessert since the 1990's and they discontinued it about two years ago 🥹

Morrisons used to sell (I’m going back to when my DH was first posted to Lincolnshire after RAF trade training in 1999, btw) a frozen product called Sweetcorn Dippers. Typical beige food but they were LUSH. I’m guessing they were just mashed up sweetcorn kernels, shaped and breaded but we used to eat ‘em by the ton!!!!

Organic Heinz beans were my pregnancy craving, then they discontinued them. Ever since, I’ve been trying to find UPF free baked beans that are as good. But they’re either too sweet, too hard or just flavourless 😔

Edited to say I’ve just realised it’s supposed to be supermarket brand foods. But I stand by my reply, I’m still peeved about those beans two years later 😄

Breakfast sausage by Sainsbury's. My nan used to buy it.

They've changed the recipe and it is disgusting now. 😢

M&S food was called St Michael when I was a kid. Once a week mum would treat us to this minced beef roll thing for our dinner. It was made with this gorgeous rich shirt crust pastry.

I still miss that some 40 years later.

I make my own garlic bread - takes very little time if you’ve got soft butter ready. The shop bread was never garlicky or buttery enough.

Tip - don’t cut the bread crossways into little slices. Cut a small baguette in half crossways, and then slice each one lengthways for buttering - much quicker. Then sandwich two together, wrap in foil, into the freezer if not needed straightaway.
Some chopped parsley added to the garlicky butter is v nice, too.

Tesco tinned chicken curry from 1988ish. It had raisins in. If I could taste that again I reckon it would be my madeleine equivalent, I'd be right back there in my tatty school uniform, eating from a plate on my lap in front of Neighbours. I know Tesco still does chicken curry but nothing like that one.

M&S used to do a sherry fruit trifle that had flakes almonds on top. My step dad would buy it every few months - it was heavenly

one thing I don’t miss is Tesco’s own brand margarine form the 80s. Massive blue and white tub and the margarine stank. We had that until she met step dad and introduced butter to us

Feel your pain

Lidl used to sell frozen cauliflower cheese in a packet. You just took out however much you needed & shoved it in the oven & it tasted just like homemade but without the faff. Went to buy some yesterday & they'd disappeared. They didn't even have any fresh or frozen cauliflower so I had to buy frozen cauliflower & broccoli. If I hadn't promised to make cauliflower cheese I wouldn't have bothered

Safeway own brand vegeburgers (visitors just thought they were really nice beefburgers) and their spicey beanburgers. Never found anything as good all these years later.

Yes I miss that garlic bread!! Our local m&s take yesterday's loaves stuff them full of garlic and herb butter and put them in one of those open top ice cream freezers, that's the closest I can find but more expensive

Have you tried the bold bean ones? Not tried their baked beans yet but the others in jars are rather good.

Aldi still sell theirs, I get it regularly for DC.

Back in the 80's marks and Spencers used to do baked potato flavour crisps...... and the tuna crunch sandwich was well lush!!
This was the time that the supermarket meal deals were getting popular.....

Oh we used to get this usually on a Saturday.

It just says "supermarket food" - if your Organic Heinz beans were sold in a supermarket, I say that they count.

Tesco - chocolate brownie cake mix from a box, came with a little cardboard baking tray and made the most awesome brownies especially when you added some extra chocolate chips.

Walls muddy pigs ice cream. It was perfection.

Brilliant. Sadly I was nowhere near an Aldi yesterday. I did go to Iceland beforehand so I should have looked there

I add semi-dried prunes to my brownies. The sticky sweet fruit keeps them moist and gooey.

M&S potato deltas. They were extremely salty triangular crisps things. Delicious!
