Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

Also, M&S mountain bars.

They still sell these. They are my weekly treat! 😋

Marks and Spencer Chococino Muffins

Marks and Spencers Marshmallows with a jam centre individually wrapped in foil (the new ones are gross)

Dark Chocolate Bounty Bar

Cadbury 'Fuse' bar

Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Tea Loaf

All loved and lost by me! 😋

{mention:JugfullofRoses}M@S do an apricot pastry in the bakery section.
I agree re Clarnico mints.
Campbell soup. The mushroom or celery ones make a great sauce for chicken legs/thighs shoved in the oven for an hour ans served with mashed potatoes and peas. My comfort food !

Sainsbury’s used to do a thing called Breakfast Sauté. It came in a foil vacuum pack and was mainly chopped potato with tiny bits off egg and bacon. You cooked it in a frying pan for 20 mins. It was a gloriously golden and delicious plateful that I haven’t seen for years. 😢

Puffed wheat? Like sugar puffs but with no sugar?

@Owl55 check out Rude Health Puffed Oats!

They used to do honey puffed oats too, which were subtly sweet, but these seem to be impossible to find now.

They were really handy when we went camping as they didn't need to be kept chilled. One of those and a tin of beans made a really good hot breakfast. I think I saw something similar in Aldi a while back.

Tesco, Morrisons and B&M sell this now 😋 I used to crave this after a night out in my younger years! (Princes Tuna and Mayo Paste)

Ah - my Morrisons didn’t have it last time but I’ll shop around

Thank you so much, I appreciate your reply but unfortunatley I don't live near a Booths. I'm down South.

I'm on the South Coast and I know of several garden centres/farm shops near me which sell Thursday Cottage products. You can also buy on line.

Thank you, I'd have to buy online (Housebound.). Cheers for letting me know.

Tesco tinned chicken curry from 1988ish. It had raisins in. If I could taste that again I reckon it would be my madeleine equivalent, I'd be right back there in my tatty school uniform, eating from a plate on my lap in front of Neighbours. I know Tesco still does chicken curry but nothing like that one.

In the 50s and 60s my Dm used to make curry with sultanas in. DF had developed a taste for curry during WW2. I liked it, and still put some in now and then.

It was usually leftover lamb or beef curry IIRC - we hardly ever had chicken, it was an expensive luxury then, at least to my usually pretty skint DPs.

When I was a kid (in the 80s) there were these things my dad called breakfast slices. They were long rectangular pieces of unidentifiable meat products and I probably really wouldn't want to know what was in them but man would I love one of those sarnies again.

Sweetpea333 · 10/09/2026 16:18

Ooh the heinz tinned salads! Potato, vegetable and Russian!

Sweetpea333 · 10/09/2026 16:34

Oh to taste Lean Cuisine Duck a l'orange again! Also chicken supreme...I still miss celery soup.

Sweetpea333 · 10/09/2026 16:45

Oh and I've just remembered a delicious pasta sauce range. I can't remember the brand but it was called Lost in Lombardy and was butternut squash with a hint of Marsala. Utterly delicious.

M&S used to do a cinnamon and chocolate brioche type dessert in the frozen isle in the 1990s.

It was our favourite treat as young kids.

Waitrose did similar ones. Looked dreadful, tasted great.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 12/09/2026 14:37

Sainsbury’s used to do a salt and vinegar tube shaped crisp. They tasted like salt and vinegar Squares but the tube made them better. Sainsbury’s crisps again. They used to have little ready salted hollow buttons, the size of a 5p tasted like an airy version of M&S deltas. No I think about it, air flow through crisps is an important factor for me!

Yokodoko · 13/09/2026 00:21

2 Morrisons and no Nood, they are phasing it out 😡

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/09/2026 00:43

The hundreds of gluten free items it was possible to buy when that was the fashionable food preference about 10 years ago. Once the trend turned to veganism, most of them disappeared almost overnight to be replaced by foods often completely unnecessarily containing wheat.

To add insult to injury, access to prescription products was withdrawn because gluten free foods were no more expensive than wheat ones and available in every supermarket.

Gluten free tiger bread is £3.50 on offer for 400g. Standard tiger bread is £1.75 for 600g.

My eldest pointed out recently that Arctic Roll is no longer a thing. I set out to prove this wrong but no luck so far.

I’ve got one in the freezer 😂😂

Aluna · 13/09/2026 06:05

Huntley & Palmer Romany Creams
M&S carrot & nut salad
M&S crispy prawn wantons
Waitrose chocolate cupcake - best shop bought cupcake ever. The current ones are crap by comparison.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 13/09/2026 08:45

M&S creamy prawn curry delicious

Mr Toast loves plain old swiss roll with no buttercream (yes, I know we could make one!) and I always used them for trifles but they're really hard to get hold of now. Eventually found a version in Tesco but it's sad to think a plain old jammy Swiss roll is going out of fashion.
