Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

A bunch of stuff that in theory they still have but have had sugar replaced with sweeteners including nice biscuits, party rings, ribena… just not worth buying any more.

Also apples - discovery, russet, Worcester. They smelt applely in a way galas and even pink ladies don’t. I would see them occasionally but I presume the orchards have been grubbed up and changed to just galas and Braeburn now.

M&S Duchess Potatoes - so fiddly to make yourself but these were delicious.
M&S Rich Pastry Turkey Pie - loads of turkey in a white sauce with buttery pastry.
M&S used to do a fresh bar sponge cake with blackcurrant and whipped cream filling - again it was lovely!
They also did a large minced beef pie with puff pastry.
These were all before they added rapeseed oil to practically every single product they sell!! Dreadful stuff!

Going back even further, does anyone remember Fuller's walnut cake? It was walnut sponge with vanilla buttercream in the middle, then the whole cake was covered with shiny white icing (? fondant) and about 5 - 6 whole walnuts studded in the icing.

I remember that walnut cake! I never liked it though! 😂

I think they were called oat puffs or similar , can’t buy them now and trying to buy a low sugar cereal is nigh impossible , if anything they are sweeter than ever ! I’m diabetic and miss them .

Puffed wheat? Like sugar puffs but with no sugar?

M&S used to do a dessert which was a large tub (sharing) which had chocolate mouse, chocolate brownie pieces, malted balls, chocolate pieces. It was delicious and me and DH used to share one at the weekend as a treat. Discontinued and now have a pretty disappointing selection of desserts.

I agree it’s not what it used to be for deserts. They did a creme caramel and that was divine then stopped in a couple of years or so ago.

All the supermarkets used to do nice "own brand" apricot wheat cereal - little mini shredded wheat pillows stuffed with apricot paste. One by one they stopped making them and only stocked the Kellogs version which was utterly vile as well as being more expensive. Lately Nestlé have brought out their own version, and thankfully Kellogs have stopped making their vile version, but I haven't bought anything by Nestlé since the 1980s and won't be starting now. I would want the own-brand version back, but I've actually found that savoury breakfasts work better for me anyway.

The other thing I miss is jars of pasta sauce and curry sauce that aren't mostly tomatoes. There's so many flavours you can have in sauces but the jar aisle of every supermarket is just all tomato with different additional spices and very little real variety. Sainsbury's used to do a really nice butternut squash pasta sauce that doesn't exist any more.

Yeah tomato everything in sauces. Would be nice to see something different.

Same with deserts and puddings, cheesecake seems to be the main one in different flavours but still cheesecake.

M&S food was called St Michael when I was a kid. Once a week mum would treat us to this minced beef roll thing for our dinner. It was made with this gorgeous rich shirt crust pastry.

I still miss that some 40 years later.

Yes, these, especially the vegetable one.

And Waitrose bakery - dark chocolate and sour cherry bread loaf. I mean, it's probably a good thing it's gone, as I could scoff it all in one go,

Waitrose cafe used to do a breakfast option of a large mushroom with baked cherry tomatoes, spinach, and hummus, and their cafe has just gone to crap, with hardly any decent choices now.

They also did a wonderful Summer Fruit Charlotte which looked, and tasted, really special! It was discontinued! Their cakes and puddings are just boring now.

When I was little there was this Tesco cinnamon loaf thing and I remember my mum sat me on the counter and I was eating a slice of it and she turned her back to deal with one of my siblings and I picked it up and started scranning the loaf. It was soooo yummy.

I bought some sugar free ;sugar puffs; recently, either morrisons or sainsburys cant remember but i have thrown the box away now. They still exist. I am diabetic and struggle getting low / no sugar cereal and most i have tried are disgustingly sweet, mainly stick to weetabix or no added sugar muesli.

Kwiksave, I know, used to sell tinned irish stew, it was dirt cheap and was the best hangover cure I ever found when I was a student...still miss it

I am enjoying the sheer nasty niceness of the sainsburys and morrisons versions at the moment.
