Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

Marks and Spencer's used to do carrot cake cookies. I loved them far more than is a normal amount of love for a biscuit. And they discontinued them.

And around 2008 they did a lemon tart and a chocolate fondant that came in enamel pie dishes, and I'm still furious* that they don't do those any more.

*I exaggerate but only slightly.

My eldest pointed out recently that Arctic Roll is no longer a thing. I set out to prove this wrong but no luck so far.

Tesco - chocolate brownie cake mix from a box, came with a little cardboard baking tray and made the most awesome brownies especially when you added some extra chocolate chips.

I used to make these if the kids had a school or Brownies bake sale, in the 90s 00s

Ferro · 06/09/2026 11:42

M&S used to have a really nice own label mayonnaise.

WellThatsNotAGrowthMindset · 06/09/2026 11:42

M+S caramel cake from the 80s - all it was was caramel sponge and buttercream. No frosting, no fudge pieces etc Just straightforward nice cake. Have not found a replacement.

Ross's potato crunchies
Findus minced beef crispy pancakes

Sainsbury's prawn and coriander spring rolls
Sainsbury's chicken makhana curry

All the above are from years ago but still gutted

RosesAndHellebores · 06/09/2026 11:45

M&S used to do rectangular crispy cheese and bacon things. No idea what rhey were called but I used to have them as a breakfast treat in the 80s. They disappeared decades ago.

queenofthebongo · 06/09/2026 11:50

Tesco used to do a nut loaf that sat upon a spicy tomatoey sauce. I can’t remember if it was fresh or frozen, but it was incredible. It must be 20 years gone but I still miss it. I’ve also tried to recreate it….not so successfully!

Imaribenaberry · 06/09/2026 11:51

Asda used to sell Garlic Mini Breads in a black packaging anbou 20 years ago. They had Ooh La La on the front. Bit like crisps but they were so good. Nothing else has ever come close.

Crunchymum · 06/09/2026 11:52

M&S chicken escalopes and M&S Bang Bang dip.

Damn you M&S.

StayGoldenPonyGirl · 06/09/2026 12:04

M&S pasta salad - very plain with just sweetcorn and peppers and tiny pasta shells in a vinaigrette. As a young vegetarian from a poor family with the most basic of basic palates, this was extremely bourgeois for me and was my treat throughout uni. Same with M&S ready salted squares. Could buy a big pack and the pasta salad for under £3 and have 3 'meals' out of it as a student. I have a better palate now but sometimes want something bland.

Not supermarket brand but Linda McCartney ready meals...they used to do lasagne and spag bol and they'd come with a little 5" garlic bread pizza. Absolutely divine but can't find any mention on the web - am I remembering that correctly? Anyone else remember them?

Obligatory mention of Brannigans Beef and Mustard crisps. RIP.

Lidl used to sell frozen cauliflower cheese in a packet. You just took out however much you needed & shoved it in the oven & it tasted just like homemade but without the faff. Went to buy some yesterday & they'd disappeared. They didn't even have any fresh or frozen cauliflower so I had to buy frozen cauliflower & broccoli. If I hadn't promised to make cauliflower cheese I wouldn't have bothered

You can get a similar product at Sainsbury's and Waitrose. I put extra cheese on top before baking!

The M&S syrup sponge dessert. An individual pot of sponge, syrup, custard and whipped cream.

I'd being buying that dessert since the 1990's and they discontinued it about two years ago 🥹

For me, Chocolate Delight Dessert. I first bought in around 1982 and they did it for years. Any of their layered desserts just taste artificial now.

Cicchetti · 06/09/2026 12:10

Weetabix mini bites which were made with oats only. (I have a wheat allergy).

M&S briefly did a gf prawn cocktail sandwich which I truly miss.

Not a food item, but Vanish bars for stains. They were the best!

HalleLouja · 06/09/2026 12:10

M&S used to do an amaretto chocolate bar. It was lush. It must have been stopped 30 years ago but i still think about it.

I am not a massive chocolate lover either.

Now I'm craving arctic roll...

Lomonald · 06/09/2026 12:11

Seeing as M&S is featuring so much, they brought their prawn cocktail shells back recently and they are horrible, I don't know what they they removed i suspect salt !

Lomonald · 06/09/2026 12:14

Tesco do a nice ice cream roll in the Mollys range it isn't quite Artic Roll but a good alternative.

DrEmilyCrabtree · 06/09/2026 12:16

Asda in the late 90s/early 2000s did a frozen vegetarian carbonara with mushrooms and fake ham. It was in a bag and you added a spoon of water before heating it. It was really nice and super quick when I was in a rush. Then it just vanished

Also loved the M and S baked potato crisps

Special mention to Toast Toppers and Mingles

newrubylane · 06/09/2026 12:21

Tesco used to do a chicken and bacon pizza with a white sauce, no tomato. It was our favourite and I've never found a supermarket pizza as good since.

Nopayrise · 06/09/2026 12:22

Waitrose used to do a pasta salad with mushrooms and I think cucumber. Sounds gross but was delicious and I used to get it occasionally as a packed lunch treat at school

sweatybettytoday · 06/09/2026 12:23

Iced magic and super whip!

Utterlybutter · 06/09/2026 12:23

Craft Tofu Knots.

Carryingitjoyfully · 06/09/2026 12:31

M&S cheese and celery sandwich. So simple but they were just perfect.

bugaboo218 · 06/09/2026 12:46

Sainsbury's used to do crisps called burger bites back in the late 80's early 90's they were the bees knees of crisps!

United chocolate bars and trio bars. They made my Friday lunchtime at primary school, as that was the one day a week when my sister and I were allowed a chocolate bar and a carton of um bongo in our lunch box.

safeway always used to have the best bread and bakery products in their in store bakery. Their crusty bread slathered in anchor butter, back in the day when butter was not made with oil like it is now was sooo moorish.

As a teen Mac Donald's used to do a veggie burger in a bun and root beer. That was a Saturday lunch time staple before spending the afternoon mooching in town with my friends.

Those frozen vanilla and strawberry mousse pots. Anyone else remember them?

UseOfWeapons · 06/09/2026 12:48

Sainsbury’s used to do a vegan spicy chorizo and red pepper pizza. Which was absolutely gorgeous. They suddenly stopped doing it, I don’t know why. When I sent a message to JS via Twitter, they asked me what branch it was that I was using. .. the told me that it was permanently unavailable! I miss it.
